63 Thoughts to “Award Winning 9500 Liberty Screening at Asian Film Festival”

  1. Poor Richard

Mr. Ponytail Guy has his picture at the top of this thread.

Both Greg L, and the makers of this film are opportunist who
have sought to exploit a complex multi-sided issue for their
own gain. Help Save Manassas and 9500 Liberty are “catchy”
titles about issues primarily in Prince William County, but
have brought disproportionate negative focus on the City of
Manassas. They interpret and select “facts” to support their
dogma, not to give an objective and honest picture of events.

Gainesville Res, enough with the instant outrage. All I am saying is that name associations are easy to pick apart. No need to call me a liberal and so on. You have a right to your opinion although I wonder about the validity of this notion of attacking a film’s content based on a demonstrable ignorance about such content.

Poor Richard, I can understand why you might feel that City of Manassas has taken undeserved heat from both HSM and 9500 Liberty.

In both cases, there is some misapplied geopgraphy. In the case of Liberty Street, I would say that the first act of erroneous jurisdiction was the fault of Mr. Fernandez.

There will probably always be a problem between the Manassas area folks and those who actually live in the City. For those of us who have been around forever, back when Manassas was a town and there was less proprietary ownership, for lack of a better description, we still feel like we live in Manassas. We don’t feel like we have to be within the confines of the geographical area. People who came to the area more recently probably don’t feel the same was as the old timers like me do. However, you protect and defend Manassas as I never will.

I digress. I will have to disagree that Eric or Anabel tried to manipulate political outcome to fit their own agenda. I think they tried to present most sides of a complex issue in the film. I saw the film several times but about a year apart.

The film looks very different when not viewing it mid-stream. While there is never an actual end to a film such as 9500 Liberty, one does come away with some sense of closure, without having a finite ending. I think you will walk away with a different feeling about the final product than earlier versions that were still works in progress.

However, I agree about the pony tail. I couldn’t stand it any longer. And I appreciate the time you put in to explaining why you feel as you do. And as usual, we can disagree without being disagreeable. That is one of your trademarks, Poor Richard.

  4. Elena

But Poor Richard, where and when did you see the film in its “final” version, the entire 80 minutes?

  5. Elena

    Poor Richard,
The article you posted from the Baltimore Sun, from the early 20th century, the one that reads almost verbatum, things said about Latino’s only it’s Italians, what about that article had meaning to you?

  6. @Moon-howler
You know, when I first moved to Bristow, I thought I was in Manassas. We’re that close. To me, geographical boundaries are pretty insignificant when we all live so closely together like this.

  7. @9500liberty: will be on nbc channel 4 during 5pm segment.

  8. Moon-howler

Pinko, are you saying that there will be something about 9500 liberty today on the 5 pm segment of the news?

  9. Moon-howler

Elena, I believe PR said he saw it about a year ago–one of the longer versions. I seem to recall that from an earlier discussion we had. He may correct me if I am wrong.

  10. Poor Richard

Thank you M-H, we will just have to agree to disagree on the film.
Let me know when the “final version” will be shown next locally.
Besides the title, my chief issues have more to do with “sins”
    of omission than commission.

The Sun article, as was copied almost a century ago in the Manassas
Journal, is a classic example of even the established main media
becoming hysterical on an issue and not showing reason. Other
pieces, especially about race relations, also seem thankfully dated.
To paint all iimigrants as bad is the flip side of saying they
and their impacts are all good. It is more complex than that.

  11. Moon-howler

    We will let you know.

And I agree, it is a complex issue. There is no all good or all bad in this situation.

  12. @Posting As Pinko
Yes, it looks like they were on tonight. You can probably find the clip online.

    @Last Best Hope
So now you are calling me ignorant. I’ve viewed all the clips on their website and have followed this issue for some time.

As usual, you make bold faced lies and say things about people showing an entire lack of class on your part. I have a right to be outraged at some of your entirely outrageous statements.

It is you how are ignorant, obviously!
