Faces of America
Faces of America

The estimated time when whites were no longer a majority in the United States has been pushed back by 8 years because of the recession.  Stricter immigration policies have slowed the flow of foreigners being admitted to the United States. The work force isn’t needed.  The 9-11 terrorist attacks also slowed immigration.   Earlier estimations in population shift did not take these 2 factors, terrorism and recession,  into account.

White children will now become a minority in 2031 rather than 2023 and all whites will become a minority in 2050 rather than 2042.  There are approximately 308 million people in the United States now.  Two- thirds of those people are white.  It is predicted that the total populations will grow to 399 million by 2050 and the demographics will shift to whites being 49.9% of the population.  Blacks should make up 12.2%which indicates almost no change, and hispanics will go from 15% to 28% of the US population.  Asians will increase from 4.4$ to 6%.

According to USA Today:

Under a purely theoretical “zero immigration” scenario in which the U.S. effectively does not take in any immigrants, whites would remain the majority in 2050, making up a solid 58% of the U.S. population. In such a case, the share of Hispanics would increase to 21% because of high fertility rates and a younger population.

Under a “zero immigration” model, the 65 and older population also grows substantially faster, comprising nearly 1 in 4 Americans.”These projections show that immigration will serve to replenish our labor force as baby boomers age into retirement and make our population younger without overburdening our schools and other community resources,” said William H. Frey, a demographer at Brookings Institution.

23 Thoughts to “White American Majority to end by 2050”

Ohhhhh…………….. that explains it! My suggestion, learn Spanish now, and don’t buy too many American flags. You don’t want to get stuck with outdated inventory.

  2. LittleDavid

While the need to increase the number of younger workers in an aging population is a good point, we do not need to add people to the unemployment lines during this recession.

  3. Poor Richard

Interesting article on the Loudoun Times-Mirror site today reporting
some facts from a recently issued Washington Boards of Education
FY 2010 Guide (also avail. on line – perhaps M-H can link to it). The
report has a great deal of data on most local systems (including
PWC and Manassas City – can only assume MPC isn’t a member since
    they aren’t listed).
One chart that relates to this posting’s topic, shows percentage of
students that are listed as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).
Manassas City is 28.5%, far higher than every other system
shown, including PWC at 15.2%. (Manassas City in the last several
years has become a “minority-majority” school system due
primarily to the influx of Hispanics and an exiting of many whites).
Does this relate to the average student cost in Manassas City
    being $12,192 while PWC’s is $10,383?
The demographic changes taking place have enormous impact –
some good, some not. We need to know what they are
based on less emotion and more on factual data.
Only then can we address them in a positive and productive way.

  4. It might just mean that the City of Manassas isn’t as cheap as PWC. The City also pays its teachers better as does MP. PWC’s per pupil is lower than just about any place else in NoVA.

PR, you make an excellent point about basing decisions on factual data rather than emotion.

  5. Welcome Little David. Nice avatar.

That is an interesting way to look about it. For those who panic easily about Hispanic people, think about it this way. If we stop all immigration now, as the anti-immigrant lobbying companies want us to, the white majority would be 58%, and Hispanics would be at 21%. If we continue to be the nation we have always been, we’re looking at 49.9% and Hispanics are at 28%.

So in return for the comfort of 8.1% more white folks, would you or any of us be willing to implode our economy under the weight of 1 in 4 people being retired and not producing. You’d rather have a society with a shrinking economy and shrinking work force in exchange for 8% more white people?

When will the non-panicky contingent of America stand up and say “country first” means country first regardless of racial statitics?

  7. Poor Richard

Immigration has been a blessing to this country, but not an unmixed one.

  8. Slowpoke Rodriguez

I have to admit, I know of not a single person (a previous posting on this blog notwithstanding), who gives a rip about whites being a majority or minority. I cannot figure out why these particular statistics, posted in so many places as they are, carry any importance. Maybe I’m just not getting why this is supposed to be scary.

  9. Witness Too

I don’t know, Slow, I think that a lot of people do have a particular preoccupation with Hispanic immigrants and Hispanic Americans, even though about half of the 10 to 12 million people lacking proper status in this country are NOT Hispanic. For instance, your moniker and Second Alamo’s moniker suggest to me a particular anxiety, the former connoting war.

As I recall, the rash of hysteria we had in Manassas and Prince William came right after some new statistics came out showing our Hispanic population had really grown. And Greg Letiecq’s blog and Corey Stewart’s public statements seemed to be as much about Hispanic people in general as they were about presumed but unknowable documentation status. So you can understand that we get confused.

I mean, look at Mr. Alamo’s comment leading off this thread. He sounds petrified, masking fear with cultural/linguistic disdain. Certainly without an identifiable “them” to rally fear and hatred, do you really think a political issue could have been made over immigration, in this county, in this era, or any other?

The Irish, the Italians, the Jews, the Japanese, it was always thanks to fear of those who are different, and politicians and other leaders stoking those fears, that movements were made out of anti-immigrant sentiment.

If you ask around, I’m sure you’ll find many on the far right who will admit that 2050-phobia is a big reason why they cannot see the forest for the national interest trees.

  10. Witness Too

To clarify, I think a lot of our neighbors in PWC and Manassas will admit that 2050-phobia is a big reason why they cannot see the national interest forest for the special interest trees.

Their special interest is a fear they might lose the privledges and entitlement that come with being in the racial majority.

  11. Much of our politicial clout is tied to the concept of majority. If you are no longer a majority then it must be like Samson having his hair cut or something.

  12. Second-Alamo

No fear here folks, just faced with the unfortunate reality that once this country is more than full of people from third world countries then it will most likely take on the look and feel of most third world countries. We got a taste of it in Woodbridge several years ago. Parking lots with roach coaches scattered here and there. Groups standing at store fronts, etc.

[Issue resolved. I probably misread. That has been happening a lot.]

  13. Witness Too

That’s do true M-H, there is something to fear, although I think the degree of fear is much too hysterical. Women have survived for generations in this society without our full share of political power, all numbers aside, it took 100 years of fighting for the right to vote. Numbers are no guarantee of political power, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.

  14. Slowpoke Rodriguez

Well, the notion that amnesty and a flood of the poorest, least educated flooding into the US is somehow in our national interest, is laughable, of course. I heard someone make that argument today….”we need more workers”. I had to point out that we’re hovering around 10% unemployment (higher if you count folks who have quit looking). I would love for someone to give me a logical reason why millions of indigent people help us out.

  15. Slowpoke Rodriguez

Oh, now that we’re on the subject, I hear the big amnesty is coming to a Congressional session near you! Who wants to start a pool of bets as whether it’ll pass?

  16. Second-Alamo

    MH,

Roach coach is a term for the food trucks that serve sandwiches and such. It’s an old Navy expression.

  17. Witness Too

Slowpoke, I’m glad you are prepared to show some leadership among the far right, put aside any sort of racial phobia or prejudice, and really think about this issue in terms of what is best for our country.

One thing you have to do is think on the long term. The number of Baby Boomers retiring in the next 15 years is a concrete number that can’t be denied. Statistics show that, without immigration, the United States does not (and has never) replenished it’s workforce based on the birth rate of non-immigrants. For our economy to grow, we need to not only replace those who are retiring out of the workforce, we need our workforce to grow. Why not fix the broken system so the workers we need can come here legally in the long term? (Whatever animosity you might have toward those already here, let me put that aside for now.)

It is in our national interest to keep our economy growing instead of shrinking. The economy is important not only for individual prosperity but also for national security (tax dollars fund our military). So if the far right were to take the position that they’d rather see the work force shrink, the retirement population grow, and our economy collapse than abide by an increase in non-white percentages, I just don’t understand the reasoning.

I’m only speaking of 10% of our country who feel this way. But they are very vocal, so motivated are they by their fear. They opposed immigration long before the the Bush Economic Crisis, so I don’t think 10% unemployment is really the issue for them.
But since you are distancing yourself from them in that regard, let’s talk about the 10% unemployed we are both concerned about. People who are working illegally right now in the farming industry are NOT going to compete with bankers and sales agents who are currently collecting unemployment payments from the federal government. They are also not going to be eligable for those payments for 5 or more years. In fact, the jobs that the 10% unemployed are hoping will come back depend upon, guess what, a growing economy instead of a shrinking one. That means more workers, not less. Our economy can only grow if we have enough low-skill workers to do the jobs that create the products that the rest of the economy buys and sells. If instead we have businesses moving to other countries because they can’t count on the labor supply in this country, that will not be a good thing for any American, regardless of race. There will be less jobs for thar 10%, not more.

  18. Sorry SA. I think I misread something. I apologize if I falsely accused you.

  19. Slow, I havent seen anything about amnesty. Give me a link.

  20. Poor Richard

New immigrants, often poor and uneducated, are costly for local
governments in many areas. Schools, for example, often must have
more teachers and smaller classes to meet federal and state AYP
mandates for this cohort. The mandates arrive like a flood, but
funding for them from Washington and Richmond is a slow trickle.

  21. Lucky Duck

Withness Two, I do not like numbers thrown around without basis. In your post of 17:42 you stated that “about half” of illegal immigrants are of Hispanic decent.

When in fact, numbers from the Pew Hispanic Center, a respected authority on the issue show that “About 59 percent of illegal immigrants, or 7 million, came from Mexico. Other regions included Asia (11 percent), Central America (11 percent), South America (7 percent), the Caribbean (4 percent) and the Middle East (2 percent).”. So cleary, at least 71% and up to 77% of the illegal immigrants, according to the Pew Hispanic Center are of Hispanic decent.

This is clearly a higher number than the “half” of 10 to 12 million you state in your post. There is a huge difference in “about half” (50% = 5 to 6 millon) and 77% (9 to 10 millon) using the Pew Hispanic Center’s numbers.

Please use facts and be able to verify those that you do use.

  22. Lucky Duck

    Sorry, Million, not millon…its late!
