Many of our contributors are watching the county BOCS meeting.  Let’s make it easier for them to comment.

All comments are welcome.  Consider this a fairly open thread.

Has the Coppermine vehicle parking been addressed yet?  I want the 18 wheelers gone from there also.

71 Thoughts to “BOCS Meeting 1/12/10”

  1. Is that plant on the seal mint, tobacco or cannabis? I have always wondered. It looks the LEAST like tobacco.

  2. Red Dawn

LOL, Moon…..shaking my head. You never cease to amuse me 🙂 Miss you.

  3. Mom

What a shock, Marty has something in his backpocket regarding changes in the Comp Plan. I wonder if it bears a copyright notice from the Chamber as I’ll bet that’s who wrote it.

  4. Gainesville Resident

I never even noticed that plant as part of the seal! Interesting… Kind of odd it being underneath the “scale of justice”! Not sure what that’s supposed to imply.

  5. Lafayette

Our seal contains the scales of justice, blue sky, tobacco plant in brown dirt. Just a little history lesson.

  6. I had always read it was tobacco but it sure doesn’t look like it. I think someone was kidding us.

  7. A PW County Resident

    Shouldn’t it be red clay?

  8. Gainesville Resident

Were there ever any tobacco farms in PWC?

  9. RingDangDoo

    @A PW County Resident

    >>> Shouldn’t it be red clay?

Was thinking the same thing. Totally acidic, clay soil around these parts (at least in my yard).

  10. I don’t have red clay–not red like Albemarle County or in Georgia. It is sort of brown. Actually, who knows. There has been so much grading and rebuilding in PW.

  11. Avendale presentation on now. Why do we need to start ‘daling’ over on this end of the county. There is enough -dale to our east.

The droning is putting me to sleep. Droner 1 is finished and now Droner 2 is up.

  12. Elena is speaking. She brought copies of the signed pledge forms protecting the rural crescent.

Stewart, Stirrup, May, Principi all have signed the Rural Crescent Protection Pledge.

  13. Nice job Elena!! Cheer!!!

  14. Mom

Typical so far. New proffers submitted at the eleventh hour without public review. Lubely drones on and echoes the “Richmond is responsible for our problems” arguement. Its now a numbers game, will enough residents show up and speak in opposition to influence Caddigan and will Corey abide by his pledge.

  15. Lafayette

How many have spoken? I just got back from an informational meeting on the new Governor’s School at GMU at Innovation Park.

  16. I wouldn’t count on Principi for anything. Here’s his auto response to the Avendale issue:

Thank you for writing to me about the upcoming Avendale development case that is before the Board of County Supervisors this afternoon. I have been gathering the facts about the Avendale development case over the last couple of weeks. The Rural Crescent is an important treasure for all residents of Prince William County. One of the most important factors in making my decisions is listening to the constituents and their opinions about cases. This particular case has benefits and drawbacks from the proposed construction of this project which have been expressed passionately from both sides of the argument. I will continue to examine the case under the criteria of what is best for my district and the citizens of Prince William County. Judging from your interest in development cases, I want to personally extend an invitation to join the Woodbridge Potomac Communities Civic Association (WPPCA). The WPPCA is wonderful opportunity for citizens to give me direct input about development cases and other issues in our community. For more information, visit http://www.NewWoodbridge.org.

    Sincerely,

    Supervisor Frank J. Principi

And now the parade of Chamber of Commerce stooges, lets continue to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results or in their case, development jobs have dried up because of the economy and an oversupply of housing so lets approve more to preserve our flawed business model.

  18. Lafayette

What’s wrong with these people? The jobs these jokers are speaking of are only talking about jobs for a brief time, but would leave us many more people to have to provide services for. GRRRR!!

  19. Mom

When your boss is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and tells you to go speak in favor, you go and speak in favor. Its all a numbers game.

  20. Lafayette

Have you noticed every single person could NOT bring themselves to say the had a business near or enjoyed concerts at The Lube. They are ALL calling it Nissan. 🙂

  21. All I have ever heard about is how horrible the traffic is. Don’t these people who are speaking in favor see the traffic?

Yes, they all have said Nissan.

  22. Lafayette

What’s wrong with this Yankee? He doesn’t want to hear about the number of foreclosures. Who’s he kidding. Again, don’t these people realize the long term cost of services, including fire, police, education, etc.?

  23. Mom

Lubely has really loaded up on speakers for this one.

  24. Mom

If history is any indication, this is all being orchestrated out in the atrium.

  25. Lafayette

    Has Lubely spoke?

  26. Lafayette

Bob Pugh is up to speak in the last list of names called. Let’s hope the tide is shifting back to opposition.

  27. Corey reminded those in the atrium that there were seats inside. The atrium sitters apparently preferred the atrium.

  28. Bob Pugh is up now. 9:40.

    So far, he sounds great.

  29. Lafayette

Of course they did Moon. Geesh. How childish.
Mr. Pugh is doing a great job as usual when he addresses the board.

  30. Poor Richard

    Lafayette,
You mean “Lube” Lubely? He has this well lubricated.

  31. Lafayette

    PR, good one.

  32. Elena

Mom :And now the parade of Chamber of Commerce stooges, lets continue to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results or in their case, development jobs have dried up because of the economy and an oversupply of housing so lets approve more to preserve our flawed business model.

How can people NOT be paying attention to a near depression caused by a housing bubble nuclear explosion?

  33. Lafayette

Good for Corey!! He just granted Mr. Champ two more minutes since he was speaking on behalf of an organization.

  34. Elena

WHAT the effff? This guy talking gets an extra TWO MINUTES when multiple other organizations were limited to 3 minutes?????

  35. Lafayette

I’ve not seen all the speakers Elena. Everyone else was turned down for five minutes?

  36. Elena

I was not offered an additional 2 minutes. Advocates of the Rural Crescent, so important that Corey signed the pledge and FLAUNTED it in the last two elections does not get the same treatment? I can certainly ask Michelle Trenum, Ralph Stephenson, Patrick McCauley but I’ll bet you NO ONE else was offered additional time.

  37. Lafayette

Thanks for the clarification. I did not know that. Did any oraganization point blank ask for five minutes?

Does anyone know what the time is on the longest Public Hearing? This seems to be a “Marathon Public Hearing”.

  38. Lafayette

Aren’t these speakers aware of the fact that there are many approved projects that should be built before adding more inventory.
    Mr. Grimes up now!

  39. Opinion

    Go, Charlie!!!!!

  40. Yea, Charlie Grimes for cutting through the BS. Love the “breaking the cookie doesn’t change the calories” analogy.

  41. Lafayette

I loved “it’s sucker bait, don’t take it”!!

  42. Poor Richard

Think it is spelled Charlie Grymes.

Charlie is one of favorite people – he can lead a tour of the Manassas
Battlefield and share a full knowledge of both battles AND the area’s
flora and fauna AND local politics – a great mix of passion, knowledge,
    and wit.

  43. My apologies to Mr. Grymes. Should have known from his writing on http://pwconserve.wordpress.com/

  44. I raised an eyebrow at the woman who talked about Avendale planning high end houses rather than cheap $200,000 homes. Well excuse me. I guess the recession missed her.

Speaking of people who put their feet in their mouth and don’t even give a damn.

  45. Lafayette

    @Poor Richard
    Thanks for the correction, PR.

  46. Deferred.

Will this take as long to decide as Silver Lake? I hope those parents who wanted to get a new school for their kids out of the deal aren’t holding their breath. The kids will have graduated by the time it is decided.

I have never known a builder to provide a school. Has anyone else? Land yes. School building? NO.

  47. Lafayette

Way to go, yet another deferral on a vote in the Rural Cresent. UFB
Now, how long before we hear about this issue again?

  48. Lafayette

Schools NEVER!! My goodness you can barely get land for schools from these builders.

  49. What happens to a dream deferred?

    Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
    Or fester like a sore–
    And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
    Or crust and sugar over–
    like a syrupy sweet?

    Maybe it just sags
    like a heavy load.

    Or does it explode?

    Langston Hughes
