Much is being done via new technology and social networking. Information came out of Haiti minutes after the quake on Twitter and Facebook mainly because of cell phone capabililties. Now Americans can donate through their cell phones.
From myfox channel 5:
WASHINGTON – There are several organization that are responding to the urgent need to Haiti with mobile giving efforts allowing you to text to help.
The quickest way to provide monetary relief to those affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti is mobile giving. By texting a keyword to a designated short code via a mobile phone, a micro-donation of $5 or $10 can be made to aid the millions of people affected by this tragedy. 100% of your donation goes to the recipient charity, and the donation appears as a charge on your carrier bill, standard rates may apply.

@GainesvilleResident
I gave on-line at the Red Cross website. You can designate Haiti. I think its the only way you can give a larger amount… and not that much work.
It really doesn’t matter how give or who you give it to… just give something.
Thank you for providing this information, M-H. I have been truly heartened to see the outpouring of donations in so many creative ways that had not been used before. Sometimes it takes a tragedy to bring out the best in humanity. Small comfort, but a comfort it is.
Cindy left a bunch of other ways to contribute on the first thread about the earthquake.
The Salvation Army takes paypal. I find this to be a good thing because it is instant and doesn’t involve a credit card.
Opinion – yes dong it the online way is a way I’m much more comfortable with. And, of course you aren’t limited to $10 that way either, for example.
