Rush Limbaugh Wonders If ‘Jewish Bankers’ Will Have ‘Buyer’s Remorse’ About Obama

ARRRGGHHHH! Rush Limbaugh again puts his feet in his mouth. Now is is trying to stir up something between Obama and Jewish Americans on his radio show.

Most of us don’t assume all bankers are Jewish. Shame on Rush, again. Most people after all the years of warped opinion, don’t expect much better out of Rush. However, he has recenty been a topic of conversation here. He stutters and stammers as he tried to make logic out of illogic. What’s next? That Obama hates buzz saws? It makes about as much sense.  Mr. Limbaugh will go to any lengths to bash any Democrat, especially if that Democrat is a President.

Name Calling Pindit…errrr Pundits.

I have to dedicate the John Stewart of the day to Slowpoke, SA, and Hello.  There actually is a huge difference between Jon Stewart and Keith Olbermann.  Please enjoy.  This one is just for you guys.  Happy Weekend.

5-4 Citizens United Decision Clearly Judicial Activism

Today the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission which overturned a hundred years of campaign finance laws, including part of the McCain FeingoldAct.  Corporations and Unions can now spend money directly on the support of candidates.  According to Michael Waldman of the Washington Post:

This far-reaching ruling augurs a significant power struggle. For the first time since 1937, an increasingly conservative federal judiciary faces a progressive and activist Congress and president. Until now, it was unclear how the justices would accommodate the new political alignment. The Citizens United decision suggests an assertive court, eager to overturn precedent, looming as a challenge to President Obama’s agenda.

The Atlantic explains the decision:

Justice Kennedy, in the majority opinion, reasoned that the government can’t discriminate against speakers based on their corporate identities, and that “all speakers, including individuals and the media, use money amassed from the economic marketplace to fund their speech, and the First Amendment protects the resulting speech.”

This basically eliminates a middleman: before today, corporations and unions had to set up PACs (political action committees), filed separately with the IRS, that would receive donations. And they did. Corporations and unions spend millions of dollars on elections. Now, however, the accounting firewall is gone, and Wal-Mart or the Service Employees International Union, for instance, can spend their corporate/union money directly on candidates.

CEO Announcement Postponed

Beware All Ye That Enter Here

Residents of Prince William County were told to tune in at 3:00 pm during the BOCS meeting for the long awaited announcement of our new County Executive Officer. Chairman Stewart planned on interrupting the regularly scheduled meeting for this announcement.

No announcement was made. In fact, we are now being told the announcement will be made in 2 weeks at the next BOCS Meeting scheduled for February 2. The reason given was that Supervisor John Stirrup would not be in attendance.

And the real reason is? I thought Supervisor’s absence had been announced the week before. Furthermore, why does John Stirrup have to be present for the announcement of the new CEO? The postponement was just bad business. If the Chairman said an announcement was to be made, then it should have been made. Postponing the announcement just gives rise to rumor and it steals everyone’s thunder, especially the person being hired for the position.

Someone either dropped the ball or is trying to pull something slick.  Considering some of the players, there is no telling.  Why would such an announcement be made and then retracted?

The more we learn of the horrors of what has happened to Haiti, the more the apparent the need becomes.  10,000 bodies buried in mass graves each day.  I can’t imagine this in wartime, much less in a time of peace.  Just watching the pictures, seeing our military out on that grass at the airport, bringing those planes in…because that is how the relief is going to get in…one of the only ways.

There is so much talent.  Hollywood and the music industry are to be commended for giving of their time for this behemoth humanitarian effort.  It is hard not to drown the keyboard watching the victims.    Bruce Springsteen made me head for paypal again.   No more whining over the horrible ass-whupping from the stock market this week.  My family has so much more than those poor people.

Many people in this country want to give and give a lot when they see the pain and suffering beyond anything most of us have ever known  of , much less experienced.  It isn’t possible for everyone.  We have a friend who just wants people to pray for his granddaughter’s aunt.  They just found her yesterday.  They think she is ok.  So maybe if you know someone who can’t write endless checks, ask them to pray for little Miss S’s aunt.

Maybe this is the time to say thank you to our military, and to those rescue crews  and to those volunteers who dropped everything on a dime and raced to Haiti to help people they don’t even know.

I am sort of a salty old dog but I can’t say any more.  This is just too much.  The entertainment is totally awesome.

Owners of Property at 9500 Liberty Street Fined

Prince William Circuit Court Judge Wenda Travers found Delia Alvarez, owner of the property at 9500 Liberty Street, guilty of three zoning ordinance violations and fined her $1200. The on-going saga of the various Liberty Street signs goes back to fall of 2007, around the time Prince William County passed a resolution dealing with illegal immigration.

Each sign erected at the Liberty Street property was addressed by the City of Manassas. Thursday’s court case resulted from a sign tied to a tree on October 29, 2009. City inspector James Gillie told the court that he first saw the sign on this date. Ms. Alvarez was sent a letter advising her that the sign was out of compliance with city zoning code regarding signage. She was directed, in writing, to remove the sign by 9 am on November 2. Ms. Alvarez did not respond nor did she take down her sign.

Cleaning up Old Town

What’s going on in the City of Manassas  with all the loitering, pan-handling and shady goings-on  near Harris Pavillion  and the convenience stores?  I keep hearing as many complaints about these sites as I do about Coverstone 7-11.  It is impossbile to go in to  the Grant Avenue 7-11  (between Center and Church) without being  approached and pestered for ‘change.’  Some of them get aggressive when you ignore them.

The store clerks seem to be afraid of the people that hang out in front of there.  The loiters go in and steal from the store then they hang out and intimidate the approaching customers, that is when they aren’t too busy slithering around back to complete their ‘deals.’

This loitering has been an on-going problem for several years.  Maybe it is time for the City cops to start making routine stop-bys and run some of these jokers off.  For the record, my sources tell me it isn’t Latinos.  The people are mainly whites and blacks.  There are very few Latinos loitering.   I have also been told to advise women, both young and old, to not go near that 7-11, especially at night.

It sounds like it is time for this neighorhood to be cleaned up and for the riff raff to move on.  The City of Manassas has a wonderful Old Town section that is being destroyed by this element.  The City has great cops also.  Perhaps people just move on and don’t complain.  However, if you can’t go in a store or to a pavillion because of the loiterers being obnoxious, this hurts the City and it hurts the City’s revenue.  There are enough good City people who are part of this blog that I know this matter will get the full attention of those who can and will fix the problem.  I have promised my souces this.

Glenn Beck Attacks Newly Elected Scott Brown

Glenn Beck really has no taste. Wednesday after Scott Brown’s extreme overthrow in Massachusetts, Beck came on his radio show and uttered the following about Brown’s kidding remarks about his lovely daughters who are famous by their own rights:

I want a chastity belt on this man. I want his every move watched in Washington. I don’t trust this guy. This one could end with a dead intern. I’m just saying. It could end with a dead intern.

And his TV show was not much better:

Republicans might want to get over their idolatry of this man. He immediately attacks the newly elected Republican and then he howls with pleasure over his little inside joke about dead interns. Was he comparing Brown to Gary Condit or to Ted Kennedy? Its hard to tell. Regardless, his comments are tasteless, gross and I don’t think soon-to-be Senator Brown deserves what was said.

Who is going to rein in this bozo? Instead of celebrating a political victory, Beck tries to tear the man down. I simply do not get it. Can he not accept a victory that he personally has not orchestrated?

Stewart Attempting Last Minute Agenda Change Today on Avendale?

DEMAND transparent government!  I, along with many citizens, were SHOCKED to find out that Corey Stewart, as the Chairman who controls the Agenda, would attempt to circumvent open democracy and put Avendale on the 2 p.m. agenda today.  Additionally, John Stirrup is out town, so the fate of the Rural Crescent relies on Mike May, Maureen Caddigan, and Frank Principi.  Please, e-mail these supervisors and ask them to vote against any last minute addition to the Agenda and stand up for transparent democracy!  Corey needs a majority vote to allow Avendale on the agenda for today.

Citizens are sending in e-mails, please, write one and send it in by 1:00 this afternoon!

Regime Change with a Smile: Senator Centerfold

Alas, the Lion of the Senate’s old seat old was snagged by a young stag.  I don’t know much about Scott Brown other than he is a hunk and a Republican.  Born in 1959, Brown has held several political offices.  He will serve as Massachusetts U.S. Senator for the remain 3 years of Senator Kennedy’s term.  He will probably irritate the good people of Massachusetts and a Democrat will be in at the next election.

The significance of this win cannot be understated.  It brings the Senate down to 59 Democrats  rather than the 60 needed to pass legislation the easy way.  There is fear that health care reform will not make it through now.   The balance of power has been tipped. Democrats need to pay careful attention and so do Republicans. It was only a year ago that the GOP got their heads handed to them. Perhaps both parties need to change–big time.

Now I am sitting here wondering if  the playmate of the month could ever win a U.S. Senate seat.  I am guessing someone would make a huge deal out of  her ‘past.’   Scott Brown was a centerfold in Cosmopolitan Magazine in 1982. Apparently being a centerfold doesn’t hurt males, especially good looking ones.

Warning! Incredible HUNK pictures!

What Happens When Houses Become a Public Nuisance?

Some houses  fair a lot better than others.  Serendipity, the house in the movie Nights in Rodanthe, was being reclaimed by the sea.  A storm in October 2008 just about finished it off.  Dare County served notice that the house was a public nuisance and had to be moved or torn down.  The Pennsylvania couple who owned it decided to level it.

Along came a couple from Western North Carolina who fell in love with the house.  They purchased it and moved it to a less precarious spot in Rodanthe.  Just amazing!

Each locality seems to have its own set of problems, doesn’t it.  Neighorhood Services in Dare County probably operates a little different there than it does here. I had no idea how houses were moved. You can see Serendipity move right off its pilings and onto the truck. It looks impossible, but they did it!

You might want to turn the sound down. The music got annoying real fast.

BOCS Meeting 1/19/10

The highlight of the BOCS meeting tomorrow will be the announcement of the new county executive officer.  All lips are sealed as to who will lead the county.  According to the Manassas News and Messenger:

Craig Gerhart left the position months ago for a contract job with Amtrak. Assistant county executive Susan Roltsch has since filled the shoes. Following an extensive and nationwide search, and interview of a select few at Old Hickory Golf Course a few weeks ago, supervisors have found a permanent replacement.
The 3 p.m. announcement interrupts the supervisors’ regular board meeting, which includes discussion of the county’s 2010 legislative priorities and two Fire and Rescue Dept. issues – the quarterly report from the Fire and Rescue Association and whether to move to the next stage of a policy that would charge users for medical emergency transport.

Craig Gerhart announced his resignation last spring, so the county has taken its good sweet time locating a replacement. I heard a rumor that Corey himself had applied for the job but I didn’t believe it.  He did say there was no heir apparent, if that gives us any clues.

On a serious note, will the new CXO be someone from inside or will the new person be an outsider? Will the person come in and clean house or will things be status quo? Will the new CXO walk softly, carry a big stick for a while, get the lay of the land and then make changes or will there be Operation Clean Sweep down at Complex 1?  Will trumpets blare as Corey Stewart makes his announcement?  Why will the announcement be made at 3 pm?  Such ceremony.  Are we to expect a coronation to follow?   (Where is MoM when we need him!)

The good news is, this decision took less time than deciding the outcome of Silver Lake.

Update:  Corey Stewart also plans to present a resoltuion to address school over-crowding in the Linton Hall area where all schools are over capacity.  Details are from the Manassas News and Messenger:

LINTON HALL, Va.—Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart plans to present a resolution today aimed at addressing school overcrowding in the Linton Hall area.

In an e-mail sent to Bristow residents, Stewart said he plans to ask the board today to adopt a new policy requiring three news schools be opened and sites acquired for two more before “a single new occupancy permit is issued for a house in a new rezoning” in the Linton Hall area.

“I have received many e-mails, phone calls and visits from you concerning schools in your neighborhood,“ Stewart said in the e-mail addressed to Bristow residents. “You have told me that school overcrowding, particularly in elementary schools, is a top priority… You would like to have new school sites located in the Linton Hall area, not several miles away in a different neighborhood.“

His resolution specifically calls for two new elementary schools and a new high school in the Linton Hall area to be built and opened, and sites for a third new elementary school and a new middle school in the same area be acquired before new homes are built.

Stewart said the proposed new policy “would require that school overcrowding be addressed” before any new houses come to the Linton Hall area and “would also create a strong incentive for new school sites to be located in the Linton Hall Road area.“

Is this resolution crossing over into School Board territory? While most of us agree that there should be schools for all new houses, the unholy alliance between local jurisdictions and their school boards is  somewhat difficult to understand.  Basically each school board is independent but it have no means to raise revenue.  All of its money must come from the jurisdiction.

The “I Have a Dream” Speech–Has the Dream Come True?

How far have we come since that speech was given by Dr. Martin Luther King almost 47 years ago?  Has Dr. King’s dream been fulfilled or even come close?  Has prejudice been stamped out or is it seething right beneath the surface?  The term ‘racism’ is still thrown about, perhaps more than it was during Dr. King’s day.  Has it become a catch all?

Stop! Doesn’t having an African-American president satisfy the dream?   We no longer have segregation.  Or do we?  Is there invisible segregation and if so, whose fault is it?  Perhaps we don’t even want to answer these questions.  Perhaps they make us as uncomfortable as discussing what Harry Reid meant by ‘Negro dialect.’

Finally, could the door to equality have ever been opened through the legislative process?  Was it necessary for the Courts  to open the door?   I remember seeing “Impeach Earl Warren” signs as a kid.  Were those the forerunners of the expression’ Judicial activism?’

For those of us who missed the speech in August, 1963…

The Daily Caller —New Kid in Town

There is a new conservative online newspaper in town called The Daily Caller. It appears to be modeled on the Huffington Post. I have had it as a link for several months now but it wasn’t up and running until after the first of the year.

You can access The Daily Caller right from  Anti-bvbl by going to the top tab called Political Daily News Sites. The first article I read was about Senator Scott Brown and how he stood on issues other than health care. It was better than I expected and thorough. So go see for yourself. There is also access to regular newspapers on the tab to the right of the political news sites.

The articles looked interesting.  I was particularly interested in one about Warren Buffet stock splitting 50:1, making BRKB which is worth over $3000 a share worth about $70 a share once the stock splits.  Now that sounds like a good deal to me.  The Daily Caller also is running a marque across the top.  Top news now is about Cindy McCain endorsing gay marriage.  I haven’t read that one yet.

How about some input from our contributors.  Do you like this paper?  I just remembered to see if it had gone to print yet.  Maybe some of you have been reading it for weeks now.  Give us your impressions.
