That darling of the nativist crew, Tom Tancredo,  opened the Tea Party Convention in Nashville last weekend with a litany of insults towards President Obama, John McCain, and the culture of multiculturalism (whatever that means).

ABC news reports:

The opening-night speaker at first ever National Tea Party Convention ripped into President Obama, Sen. John McCain and “the cult of multiculturalism,” asserting that Obama was elected because “we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country.”

The speaker, former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., told about 600 delegates in a Nashville, Tenn., ballroom that in the 2008 election, America “put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House … Barack Hussein Obama.”

Tancredo did not stop at the Democratic president — ripping McCain, R-Ariz., the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, for shaping up to be a repeat of “Bush 1 and Bush 2.”

“Thank God John McCain lost the election,” he said, voicing his belief that McCain would have presided over big budgets and lacked a tough stand against immigration.

Tancredo served 10 years in the House of Representatives and made a name for himself with his ardent opposition to immigration. He believes the 2008 election served to galvanize the right.

“This is our country,” he told the crowd. “Let’s take it back.”

Is anyone else uncomfortable with Tancredo’s words?  Calling the president of the United States a “committed socialist ideologue” is disturbing.   One wonders who he means when he says ‘our.’

Tancredo further described the American electorate as “people who cannot even spell the word vote, or say it in English.”  Additionally, he called for a culture war in the name of preserving “Judeo-Christian principles whether people like it or they don’t.”

His rhetoric is unacceptable to many Americans.  Hopefully the Tea Party people or whatever they want to be called will reject this kind of political mentality.  It certainly doesn’t represent MY America.  It is still unclear  exactly who these folks are or what they want.  To the best of our  knowledge, and looking at who seems to identify with them, the Tea Party folks seem to be to the right of Republicans.  Tancredo, Bachmann, Beck  and Palin would fit this description.  However, Scott Brown does not.  It is  expected that  they will kick him to the curb now he is no longer needed to prove a point.  Brown seems far too moderate and more like John McCain or William Weld.

Many of our contributors defend the Tea Party with their last breath.  How do you see the Tea Party?  What is their cause?  Are they simply a grass organization?  If so, why are there so many groups?  Are they a populist group similar to the Perot people?    Is there one definition of this group or does each splinter group have its own persona?

  1. Slow, you are calling someone else potty mouth? How does it differ from conservative potty mouth?

I think maybe you should use the four letter F word in your “find in this page” search. It goes beyond the link and is in the narrative below the link.

    Moon-howler :
Ok, I am looking for the potty mouth and I don’t see it. Help me out here. I can’t do anything about it if it is invisible. I see a link. Don’t go to the link Starry left if it offends you.

Oh, I could probably make people throw up before I get offended. Far from offended, I am in fact encouraged that my assessment of the intellectual capabilities of those who spew hatred for Sarah Palin is, as always, dead accurate.

  4. That worked. I don’t know why I didn’t see it. I don’t think we have rules about using the F word. We only have rules about cussing AT people.

I didn’t understand the post exactly.

Slow, I will take you at your word. You have singed the air on a couple of occassion as I recall.

    @Wolverine

That’s absolutely the most insightful comment I’ve ever seen.

I’m in awe. Well done Sir!

  6. Wolverine, you are coming close to winning an award here for that one. I certainly agree with much of what you have said.

Maybe we need to keep our feet planted firmly in both places to really be where we need to be.

  7. michael

Wolverine is dead on-target on this one…I too have been arguing all along that what people are so angry about is that we have gotten away from Democracy..away from the founding principals of the Greeks and the Free Masons who founded our government, away from paying attention to the rights and principals of governments created to serve individuals…

America is angry that we now have governments that serve groups…political hate groups in control of the government, the right wing radical religious groups that control the Republican party platform and beliefs in government are controlled by Levitican Law and punishment by Levitican Law, and wealth distribution to the religious wealthy in America ordained by God.. and the left wing progressive Religion of socialism, that controls the Democratic party platform and belief in government by ethnic and minority group privilege and wealth distribution to the progressive ethnic, gender and racial groups in America not on individual ability….both types of political movement were prohibited and protected against by the Free Mason concept of seperation of religion and state, the US Constitution, and Bill of Rights (written by Free Masons) as rights given only to individuals, and not to factions or plitical groups, that the free man as an individual deserved wealth and happiness according to his ability and hard work, and deserved protection from political and religious oppression…

I so much agree with Wolverine and even Moon on this….

  8. I was going to jump in here. But Wolverine beat me to it. Outstanding.

    What he said.

To those that look at the Tea Party movement, remember, that “National Convention” was anything but that. The movement is extremely regional and locally based. There are no leaders in the movement. At all.

Tancredo’s rhetoric is over the top. But if you follow the topic at all, do you see what he means in context? This country has a very large, illegal immigrant problem. The powers that be are complicit in the the problem. Motor voter registration, etc, helps illegals get proper id. ACORN assists them in voting. That’s what false registrations are all about.
The liberals in this country, in BOTH parties, want to pander to the illegals in order to get them to vote for them once they are legalized. Big business likes the cheap, no benefit labor. Unions want them for members. They have no reason to assimilate and become Americans.

What we need is true reform. Heck, put “Ellis Islands” on the border. Tell the Mexicans that any that want to TRULY emigrate are welcome. Bring their families in order to stop the money from going back to Mexico. Do it for five years. We’ll end up with hard working new Americans. But no dual citizenship. Either they become citizens are they go home. We need to streamline the red tape.

  9. […] also has several other attack posts. Tancredo Opens Up the Tea Party Convention, for example, attacks Tom Tancredo for giving his opinion. Tancredo thinks people should know […]

  10. Cargo, you have a solution. You aren ‘t just saying some sound-byte. yes we do need true reform.

I have not talked to any non-citizen immigrants, legal or illegal who showed that much interest in really voting. I never heard of Acorn until the past year or 2. I really cannot speak to what they do. I know they are somehow being used for Obama-bashing and that he used to work for them.

I think voter registration ought to be a little tougher. It should include things like proving who you are and that you are a citizen. It should be just as difficult to register to vote as it is to get a driver’s license, at least as far as paper work is concerned.
