The criticism about volunteering for Candidate Obama and Senator Webb seems rather bogus to me. What person in any grassroots movement hasn’t been involved with other campaigns. I would expect most people from the ‘other hot beverage’ group worked for their candidate. Just recently, in fact, some TPP in Massachusetts claimed credit for sending Senator Scott Brown to Washington.

I don’t see how nearly 100,000 people on face book can be considered a top down movement. It sounds to me like people are finding their regional niche and going for it. Hopefully out of all of this, people in various locations will meet other people who are willing to run for local office. Throwing the bums out starts at home.

Good for those who are making their voices heard. The political parties need to listen carefully to the constituents. Meanwhile, Annabel, you sounded great! Keep up the good work.

135 Thoughts to “More Coffee Party News: Baltimore Meet Up and Annabel on CNN”

  1. Elena and I are friends. I don’t know Starry Flights from adam’s behind. I didn’t comment on whether I liked the comment or not, just that I defended his right to say it. Productive? Not particularly, in my mind. but it was early in the morning.

    When I see the same outrage over something that one of our conservatives says, then I might pay a little more attention. I never see any of you all rising up over something Slowpoke has said or Hello. At least be consistent in your outrage over inflammatory remarks.

  2. Elena

    Rez,
    I agree, starting with the image of gallows was certainly not a productive way to begin this thread. The follow up was also not something I would have posted and actually agree with what you are saying. However, where is your outrage over Liberal judges being accused of being soft on pedophiles? I find that just outrageous. That doesn’t mean I excuse calling everyone on the TEA Party or generalizing they are loons or freaks. The difference with
    Bush years and the one year of Obama is clearly not even comensurate in vitriol. However, it is time to move forward and start being constructive and to that end, villifying the TEA party is not a worthwhile endeavor. I am hopeful that the moderate voices of the TEA party,who really want to talk civily, will appear.

  3. And furthermore, and I am not criticizing him, but tone was set in the very first comment. Why didn’t someone say something then? The bottom line is, I hadn’t logged on to the blog then. I am not going to baby sit. If someone says something you don’t like, tell them. GR did.

    I also didn’t see anyone calling out Captain Slowpoke on calling someone ‘tons of fun.’ I just saw it.

    Again..share the outrage. Freakshow of weirdos and goons vs calling a user ‘tons of fun?’

    Consistency por favor!

  4. Rez

    I did not mean to leave that out. I was purposely staying general as there are many instances.

    And I believe that the amount of vitriol perceived may depend on one’s point of view. There was a lot of hatred of Bush in addition to his policies and to list them would be a waste of time. I have agreed with what you have said about things said about the current President. But perhaps you have forgotten little things like criticism over Bush for continuing to read a story to young kids instead of screaming “Oh my goodness, we are all going to die” or that he was a “coward” for being out of public view at the insistence of the secret service.

    But like I said, trading examples back and forth about who has been mistreated more is about as productive as “…..(fill in the blanks)” 🙂

    I am sorry to say that I don’t think either party will be very successful as both have visible leadership that is shall I say “polarizing”?

  5. marinm

    Considering this thread has 55 posts I would say that using the word gallows was VERY successful and productive. 8)

  6. Rez

    Wow, Wolfie. The person was called “tons of fun” in response to a comment that this isn’t “africa”. “If you don’t respect the democratic process in this country, then go back to wherever you came from.” Not sure that I would cry much over being called “tons of fun”.

    The “tons of fun” which I wouldn’t exactly equate with goons and weirdos, was part of the whole message that the person missed the joke. I agree it wasn’t an appropriate joke but are we really going to go back through this thread and pick out every sentence.

    You may also notice that I came late to this discussion. Well after you defended the person twice at posts 31 and 32. I was here about 3 hours later. It has nothing to do with babysitting as you apparently agreed with the assessment.

  7. hello

    I’ve heard that the coffee party comes with free kool aid, is that true?

    Moon-howler :
    Captain, you say ‘liberal’ like I would say ‘child molester.’ It’s ok to be a liberal.

    In my famous Phantasm “Tall Man” impression:

    “No…it’s not!”

  9. Actually Rez, it all happened before the queenie got up this morning.
    I agree with you about Bush. There was a lot of stuff said in the public forum that didn’t belong there. And had the Supremes handed down a different decision, the opposite side would have moaned and groaned just as loudly.

    But…I can’t claim ownership of the Bush/Gore problem. it didn’t happen here or on Anti. By the time Anti was born, that was old news.

    Marin, I agree. Something productive happened. I am not sure we will ever agree but the discussion took place. Where do I send the thank you note? 🙄

    In general…the ‘what’s worse’ probably will never be agreed upon. And I think we very much addressed one of the main concerns of the hot beverage ‘parties’ and that is how to carry out discourse.

  10. hello

    The only issue I have with the “Coffee Party” is that Annabel Park is a “Strategy Analyst at the NY Times” and a Dem operative who worked on the Obama campaign. Nothing wrong with that, however, don’t try to pass the “Coffee Party” off as some sort of grassroots type of thing. It’s not!

    It was started by a strategist for the NY Times as well as an Obama campaign worker! Call it for what it is, quit lying to people. What a fake, kool aid drinking, card carrying dishonest thing to do because you see your guys administration failing. What a crock of s%&@t.

  11. hello

    Want to see Annabel Park singing a great version of a song called ‘Oh Obama’… pay close attention at the 1:35 mark, that is where she first shows but there don’t worry there is more….

    This is your “Coffee Party”:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo4QoNfaBoU

  12. Elena

    Hello,
    When you use the term “worked” you imply she was paid, she was a volunteer, no special role. She wrote on her facebook page, completely randomly and guess what, PEOPLE LIKED HER MESSAGE. Don’t want to promote civility, don’t become a coffee party member. Honestly, your discourse on this blog has rarely, if ever, been productive. Maybe you need a little coffee in your life.

  13. Hello, no one cares that Annabel was an Obama supporter but you. So what. She would not deny it.

    What on earth is your point?

    Do you think she is ashamed of that video? I can promise you, she is not, nor should she be. Quit the hysterics.

  14. hello

    However, I can see why you like her and the “Coffee Party” Moon, she calls Tea Party people the same names you do. Also, according to her Twitter post at 2:32 PM on Jan. 26th started the “Coffee Party” because of the Tea Party.

    “we need to re-engage the grassroots movement that got obama elected. we need to get busy. cannot give it away to tea baggers.” – Annabel Park – Jan 26th

  15. Captain Idiot-Face

    All Right.. So I watched the video. I think it’s cute that libs have their own little club. By the looks of those folks in the Baltimore coffee shop, it appears to be a continuation of the “nobody wants us in their club, so we’ll start our own” movement from middle school…..just liberalism instead of Star Trek or Dungeons ‘n’ Dragons. It’s cute. If Rick Maddow sees this video he’ll report that there were 1.2 billion people in that coffee shop, not like the 5 Tea Pary racists that marched on Washington.

  16. hello

    If you want me to keep going to debunk this fake grassroots “Coffee Party” as nothing more that an Obama/Dem operative trying to turn the tide against this Administration just let me know.

    Google can be a wonderful thing… 🙂

  17. hello

    If you like that Captain check out my post number 61, there you will find the founder of the “Coffee Party” singing a wonderful cult like song about Obama. It’s priceless!

  18. Captain Idiot-Face

    @hello
    The dude singing got the number of states wrong…what was it? 57 or so? All kidding aside, watching that was a little like having Harry Reid pee in my ears.

  19. marinm

    I’m offended by your characterization of “Star Trek” or “Dungeon’s & Dragons” being tied into a “nobody wants us in their club”. I’ll have you know me and my 5 make believe friends enjoy watching Trek, playing D&D (now on PC!) all while watching Big Bang Theory on TV.

    I am looking forward to November.. I really want to see where the American people want to take us for the next 2 years.

  20. hello

    @Elena
    Yeah, Annabel saying “we need to get busy. cannot give it away to tea baggers.” REALLY promotes civility. What a joke, like I said before, I have no problem with the Coffee Party but just be honest about who you are and what you believe in.

    It was started by a mega-Obama-bot who sings his praises, literally, and calls the opposition vile names then claims to want to promote civility. Get real.

  21. hello

    Also, I find it a little interesting that just a few days ago Nancy Pelosi suddenly changed her tune about the Tea Party claiming that she ‘shares some of the same views’. Then all of the sudden an Obama operative starts the “Coffee Party” claiming to ‘share some of the same views’ of the Tea Party. coincidence? Maybe but not bloody likely.

  22. Captain Idiot-Face

    @marinm

    Your offendedness offends me.

  23. hello

    Some more Annable tweets which show why she started the Coffee Party, please Moon and Elena, point out to me where she describes how she wants to promote civility:

    – Jan 26 at 2:32 PM – “we need to re-engage the grassroots movement that got obama elected. we need to get busy. cannot give it away to tea baggers.”

    – Jan 31 at 2:24 PM – “We’re in mortal danger of going backwards in Nov. Get some coffee, get off your butt and rejoin the movement of change.”

    – Jan 28 at 6:38 PM – “No more reading tea leaves! Get the job done. No more excuses.”

    – Jan 28 at 5:50 PM – “Stop reading tea leaves. We will overwelm the polling stations in Nov. We want change! We want change!”

    – Jan 27 at 12:25 AM – “we’re not going to take this tea crap anymore. let’s work for change!”

    Kind of reminds me of a spoiled little girl who isn’t getting what she wanted…. 🙁

    @Captain Idiot-Face

    Hmm, according “Stuff White People Like”, being offended ranks #101:

    http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/05/28/101-being-offended/

    I’m offended that you’re offended at marinm’s offense.

    And the best offensive is a good defense

  25. hello

    Do you think she is ashamed of that video? I can promise you, she is not, nor should she be. Quit the hysterics.

    I agree with you, I doubt she is ashamed of that video either. However, she should be totally embarrassed about it. It’s a bunch of people singing a disturbing cult like song to “Oh Bama” like he is their god while holding even more posters with Obama’s face on it looking like he is floating in the clouds. Were you in the clip by any chance?

  26. Elena

    OMG, I am laughing so hard! Hello, seriously, are you for real? I volunteered for the Obama event at Nissan Pavillion, oh crap, I must be an operative too. Oh, wait, and I was a professional make up artist for CNN and MSNBC AND did make up on many democrats, well, that one may not be so sinisiter as I also did make up for many republicans. Wait, and the final nail in the coffin, I prefer coffee over tea….cue in mine and Annabels theme song…….Mission Impossible/Tom Cruise move over, here comes Annabel Park http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtyByefOvgQ

  27. Captain Idiot-Face

    @hello
    #11 🙂

  28. Elena

    The reality is that many people I know, republican, independent, democrat alike, were disgusted with the antics of the TEA party, disgusted with the behavior at Town Hall Meetings, and even more disgusted by elected officials who had the bizarre ignorant audacity to talk about death panels. How about this for a death panel, insurance companies, they make life and death decision EVERY day, every single day, and you can’t do much about it except write a lettter of appeal and pray. That Annabel was fed up with the craziness says something about her as a rational thinking person. Do I agree with everything that Democrats do, no way, I get pretty disgusted with them too, however, the constant barage of attacks against the past two Democratic Presidents has done nothing but prevent real discussion. Clinton was hounded since the moment he took office and the rhetoric directed at President Obama, in the midst of facing the worst financial crisis since the Depression. Why is it, as Americans, we all supported Bush after 9-11, but for this crisis, some have the nerve to give the ole middle finger to President Obama.

  29. Captain Idiot-Face

    I don’t think Oblamo has “operatives” so much as groupies.

  30. So where is the outrage? Hmmmm…don’t hear any. So its a one way street?

    Well, no its not.

    Since we are into music, this is probably all that needs to be said:

  31. Captain Idiot-Face

    Funny, if the death panels weren’t there, why did they acknowledge it enough to take it out of the bill?

  32. Elena

    What are you talking about CIF? Hmmm, interesting, so I guess you must have been outraged over the Bush Medicare Prescription Drug Act too as they also included end of life counseling. Oh wait, you must be a vampire that will live forever and won’t need end of life counseling.

    I am actually quite surprised that you fell for that silliness, I would have expected more, you seem very bright, irritating but smart.

  33. Rez

    Moon-howler :
    So where is the outrage? Hmmmm…don’t hear any. So its a one way street?
    Well, no its not.
    Since we are into music, this is probably all that needs to be said:

    If that was directed at me, I hate to inform you that I don’t live on the blog. I think my post earlier said how I was feeling about people that use the juvenile changing of Obama’s name as well as others. So why should I repeat myself. Also, if it was me it was directed at, even if I lived on this blog, you post was 5 minutes after the other one. Geez

  34. Captain Idiot-Face

    @Elena
    I was not a fan of the Bush Medicare Rx Act, that’s a correct statement. There’s a whole list of stuff Bush did that I didn’t like, which is why I didn’t like McCain, either.

  35. Actually, it wasn’t directed at anyone in particular Rez.

    Actually I was out for several hours and didn’t get back in until 7:45. I am not sure which posts you are referring to.

  36. Elena

    I just wanted to make this general statement so everyone has a clear understanding. Annabel is our friend, she isn’t just some caricature from a documentary or the coffee party. When we feel like she is being personally attacked, we will defend her, as I am sure, anyone here would do for their friends, at least I hope so. You may disagree with her politics, my politics, Moonhowlers politics, but none of us will stand for personal insults or insinuations that we are sneaky or untrustworthy.

  37. Elena

    So CIF, are you a vampire? Plan on living forever? End of life counseling is kind in my opinion. Somewhere along the journey into the modern world, we left the reality of death behind, it’s like a dirty secret. When I leave this Earth, I want someone to help me along the final cycle of life. Someone who can help me talk about my fears of what may be waiting for me and what I will leave behind.

  38. Captain Idiot-Face

    @Elena
    Yes, Elena, I am a Vampire, you guessed it! I vant to suck your blood! I have old fashioned ideas about end of life, that don’t include my government telling me “you know, you’ve become a financial burden to your family….you should really consider just walking toward the light.” If that’s the lot I’ve made for myself, then I’ll accept it gladly. If I’ve managed to save a dime or two and can afford to extend my life deeper into the adult diaper years, then so be it. Oh, I forgot, as long as I stay out of sunlight, I’m OK. Nevermind.

  39. Captain Idiot-Face

    Have y’all heard that 4 out of 5 people now think Internet Access is a basic human right? A Right!

  40. End of Life Counselling goes on now unless you drop dead. If you drop dead, you get to skip that part.

    Every been through it with a loved one? It explores your options. It is more about what you can do than what you can’t do.

    Slowpoke, why do you buy into all this the government is going to get you BS? I can’t stand all this myth building. Maybe I just don’t believe in being paranoid.

  41. I echo what Elena said regarding Annabel 100%.

  42. Elena

    “End of Life Counselling goes on now unless you drop dead. If you drop dead, you get to skip that part.”

    CLASSIC!!!!!

  43. Captain Idiot-Face

    Elena :
    “End of Life Counselling goes on now unless you drop dead. If you drop dead, you get to skip that part.”
    CLASSIC!!!!!

    It’s kind of end-of-life counseling in itself, isn’t it?

  44. Happy Harry

    @Captain Idiot-Face

    Do you sparkle in the sunlight like Edward in Twilight?

    Or are you more of a LeStat kind of vampire?

  45. Captain Idiot-Face

    @Happy Harry

    I’m too old for Twilight. I remember LeStat, though! I used to walk past Ann Rice’s house in New Orleans with a friend or two (of stumbled past it, to be more correct). I’ve got a history with Vampires….reading the work of McNally and Florescu, the two Professors at Boston College is what got me so fascinated with history that I changed my major and went on to a Medieval Studies PhD program at Catholic University (man, I gotta finish that thing some day). Love me some Vampires!

  46. Elena

    I was a total Anne Rice fan, read all her books!

  47. Captain Idiot-Face

    Moon-howler :
    Slowpoke, why do you buy into all this the government is going to get you BS? I can’t stand all this myth building. Maybe I just don’t believe in being paranoid.

    Just because I’m not paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get me!

  48. Captain Idiot-Face

    @Elena
    I guess stumbling past her New Orleans house piss-drunk isn’t quite as nobel as reading her work, huh?

  49. Captain Idiot-Face

    Noble. Gotta get some sleep.

  50. You all are kinky.

    Now sonny boy…*I* am not too old for Twilight so neither are you. Buffy and Angel are more my speed other than facination with the setting of the Twilight series.

    Actually, I have some history with Forks, WA and didn’t realize that was the setting for the longest time.
