I am sure Glenn Beck is disappointed that there just wasn’t more red meat out there. But as Jon Stewart says, he got a new sign off slogan. I liked the dog best.
And on another score, I feel like I have been wasting my time trying to establish dialogue on issues that people are talking about or want to talk about. Interesting, that Elena and I can be insulted at the drop of a hat, and if we so much a speak back, the self righteous start in on us again about our manners. That’s not going to work any more.
I don’t feel like swimming through a sea of partisan politics and sound bites only to be insulted. I don’t feel like spending the day defending one lone person who comes through the blog on his way to work and throws a poke at the Tea Party. Not meaning to be Gospel Moonie but, “First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
I do hope this subject doesn’t have to be revisited. Enjoy Jon Stewart. He is funny in this video and I am simply too tired to look for anything more stimulating.
Jon Stewart is a riot!
When he lost Bush and Cheney, I thought the show would suffer. It’s actually improved. He’s expanding and making fun of other people now.
Sooooo what’s Stewart’s excuse?
Excuse for what? Being hilarious?
Certainly the anonymous nature of blogs can become a toxic experience
for anyone seeking an informed reasoned and civil discussion of the issues
of the day. If this is the “public square” in 2010, then it is too often
a befouled and sometimes dangerous place to venture. The dream of
an open and productive community forum has yet to be realized.
But Moonhowlings is a cut above most others, and a step in the
right direction.
Suggest a reading of Ben Franklin’s “An Apology for Printers” from the
Pennsylvania Gazette (June 10, 1731).
“I consider the Variety of Humors among Men, and despair of pleasing
everybody; yet I shall not therefore leave off printing. I shall continue
my business. I shall not burn my press and melt my letters.”
Thank you, Poor Richard. You have restored my hope somewhat. I have been feeling like Elena and my goals for ‘howlings was way far off the mark, especially this week.
Please post that ‘An Apology for Printers’ about once a week for me, just as a reminder not to ‘burn my press and melt my letters.’ (today’s version would be typing FU to someone, hitting enter, and throwing the computer out the window into the back yard)
Please don’t feel like what you do is a waste of time, MH and Elena! You two and Alanna are the reason we have a local blog that actually provides a place to have a dialog where hatred is not acceptable.
There will always be rude people out there who come to blogs to satisfy their less-than-healthy urges. If they get too bad, you can block them.
And as Franklin also stated in his “Apology for Printers”, despite
all the temptations, don’t throw “the ass off a bridge”.
Video was pretty funny. Massa reminds me of James Traficant. Funny to watch them go for the last 15 minutes..
Poor Richard….now that is a loaded statement that can go so many different ways. Bwwaaahahahahahaha.
Marin, I think it is funnier each time I read it.
Check out new thread on economy. I brought in the experts.
I sincerely enjoy your blog postings though I usually disagree with about 40% of what you say, I am always happy to learn a little more about an opposite view point. After reading, sometimes I still disagree and other times I change my mind a little or at least open up to the possibilities. Either way, I always find Moonhowlings worthwhile reading for my day.
As for those who attack, that is their choice and I doubt it makes them any happier than it makes you. I think there are far more readers like me than the attackers although we may not be as vocal so don’t get discouraged.
Who can ever forget James Traficant! Another great example of one of our “fine public servants”!
Now that you mention it, Massa and Trafficant do seem somewhat alike in how they talk and act.
Can anyone believe that his atrocious hair was a wig?
I forget what James Traficant did wrong. That is horrible hair.
Massa just offered me a 2-fer. He looked stupid and he made Glenn Beck look stupid.
I had not heard the great build up to the tell all story Beck was playing. That should teach him a lesson not to reply on witch hunts, lies and innuendo, his staff of life.
If someone is a perv, creep or crook, it comes out eventually. People of honor just need to keep their eyes open and an ear to the ground and things will surface. There is no need for a witch hunt.
There is one thing you can count on with pervs, creeps and crooks. They all get overly confident and puffed up. Too much Hubris or something. ultimately, they are always going to be their own undoing.
Anona, I am glad you are here. The one thing we don’t want is a blog that preaches to the choir. We want to be able to exchange ideas and learn from others. And you are always polite. I don’t agree with MYSELF 100% of the time.
I also don’t always agree with a post. Sometimes I slap them up as contrarian or something to think about. In fact, on some I am neutral. What was getting annoying is just the insulting tone, names and the lack of dialog–the non-productive stuff. It was actually driving off some of our regulars.
If I hurt feelings, I am sorry. There are other blogs that cater more to that kind of behavior.
So Anona, post early and often as they say in Chicago…oh wait, that was VOTE, not post. If most people agree on 60% of things, think how much better off the world would be.
Thanks for speaking up on this topic.
Trafficant was convicted of using campaign funds for personal use. It wasn’t anything like Massa but both are characters. I think Trafficant may be out of jail now.
And not just Chicago, they used to say it about Boston too.
Excuse for wasting our time.
And who defines hatred?
Stewart is a funny show and Massa should end there and if the Republicans would drop it instead demanding who knew what when to waste everyone’s time we could get on with some important issues. Let’s face it when that pedophile Foley was active they knew it for six months and did nothing! Massa needs help, not more air time!
Well put, Bear.
Capt, what is wrong with you? Bring back the old Slowpoke please. He was funny. You aren’t. Maybe you need some tickle monster? (volunteering Jon Stewart for the job)
I didn’t realize Trafficant’s hair was a wig! I remember it being horrible looking – I just assumed it was real! I should have known better I guess. And being someone who is bald – there’s no way I’d ever wear a wig! I’m guessing Trafficant is really bald. If so, he could have picked out a much better looking hairpiece than that!
@Moon-howler
I am continuously overwhelmed by the corruption in the current administration as well as the mainstream media. It’s literally the most mind-blowing thing I can ever imagine (and no it doesn’t have anything to do with Jon Stewart, it’s just on my mind now). I do have to bring back Slowpoke, although I’m interested in doing Wile E. Coyote. I have an avatar picture, but I’m having issues cropping it right. It’s on my list of things to do. I like Captain Idiot-Face.
I like Slowpoke. I also like Wile E. Coyote as a cartoon character.
If you want me to try to crop it for you, send it. I have a fairly good croppin’ machine over here. All of this is on the condition that funny Slowpoke comes back.
As for corruption, I don’t see it is a bit worse than any other administration. We will just have to agree to disagree.
Wile E. Coyote – those cartoons were great! I always liked those “Acme” products he bought, Wasn’t that the name of the company that supplied him with all those things he tried to destroy the Road Runner with? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Wile E. Coyote/Road Runner cartoon, unfortunately! I wouldn’t mind watching some of those again – they were hilarious!
