Corey thought he was only insulting Annabel, Eric, and I am sure, he was thinking of me also in his kind words (major sarcasm)when he called Coffee Party participants “fruit cakes” and “nuts”.  What he did not realize was that  many of the attendees were military vets.  One of whom holds the rank of Colonel.  Colonel Morris Davis served in the Air Force for 25 years.  He resigned after being appointed Chief Prosecutor at Gitmo due to his insistence the trials be fair and spoke out strongly against torture as he felt it compromised the integrity of the prosecutors.
From Colonel Morris Davis:
Corey Stewart’s Nuts Are Out
Last Saturday, I attended a Coffee Party Day event at the town hall in Haymarket, Virginia. The Coffee Party is a new group that encourages civil discourse on public policy issue. About 30 people attended the event and, based on a show of hands, at least a third of the attendees were military Veterans. I’d estimate the median age of those in attendance was over 50 years of age. The common theme was there are a lot of problems facing the nation and screaming at each other is not going to solve them.

The Honorable Corey A. Stewart … my representative.

Corey Stewart is the Chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. On the official county website, he is listed as “The Honorable Corey A. Stewart” and supposedly he represents me and all of the other citizens of the county, including those of us that met at the Haymarket town hall last Saturday. Here is what he said in an interview with a reporter from the Gainesville Times:

“The Coffee Partiers are a bunch of fruitcakes; yeah, they’re a bunch of nuts. If they’re going to be a coffee party, they’ll be a hazelnut party.” Stewart elaborated, saying the Coffee Party is “just a phase; it’ll disappear.” He derided one of the co-founders saying, “does (he) have a job?” Stewart described the Tea Partiers as patriots “concerned about the direction of the country and about the vast amount of spending that happening.” He called the Tea Party a “legitimate movement” while saying the Coffee Party is “just a load of crap.”

So, my representative, The Honorable Corey A. Stewart, considers me and the other Vets who were there on Saturday fruitcakes, nuts, and a load of crap while he believes the Tea Party group are “patriots.” It seems that a lot of people like The Honorable Corey A. Stewart, Newt Gringich, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck, among others, like to use the word patriot to describe themselves and those who agree with their ideology, while none of them ever felt the urge to put on the uniform and defend the constitutional right to belittle others by calling them fruitcakes, nuts, and crap. Apparently he, like former VP Cheney, had more important things to do than serve in the military. To him and the others; you’re welcome.

UPDATE:  Title changed to appear less leading.

I have a lot of respect for anyone who has served or is serving in the armed forces, so I’d also like to thank Wolverine and Mrs. Wolverine for their service. I didn’t know about Mrs. Wolverine until Wolverine’s interesting post above. In my job working in the defense contracting business, I interact with members of the armed forces almost daily – and everyone of them I meet – have all proven to be really excellent people – and I’ve formed some lasting friendships with many of them. It only adds to my respect for members past and present of our armed forces – as until my present job – which started 7 years ago – I really had never interacted with any members of the military. I quickly found out though they are all really good people, and really dedicated to their jobs.

201 posts! Gainesville Resident, I’m tempted to call you something incredibly insulting and totally unfair just to see if we can get to 300… but that would probably defeat the positive tone that’s come to pass everywhere. It’s tempting, though. Aaaaaaaaa… nope, just can’t do it.

    Case closed.

OK, that’s funny! Yes, let’s definitely not do that!

Besides, who knows what the upper limit the blog software can handle for a single thread in terms of posts. You never know what some programmer may have done in thinking that some thread will never get to “x” number of posts. Although, I actually seem to recall a thread on antibvbl that was well over 200 posts, so while this is the longest one on moonhowlings, I’m virtually certain there was at least one longer one on antibvbl!

  5. The perfect chance to discuss Nazis was in the movie Constantine’s Sword. Real Nazis living in real Germany. There were Fascists in there too.

Should I assume that no one is interested in movie discussion? We were going to do Doubt for this week but if no one is interested than I am not going to bother. Let me know. 2 people can discuss. It doesn’t need an army. Not going to talk to myself though. And Rick suggested it and then poof…gone with the wind.

M-h, how about choosing a month’s worth of movies (one a week) and post the line-up so those of us who can’t download Netflix instantly can have time to get them through the mail. I like movies and see many of them, but I have to have more leeway since I’m a luddite without the latest technology.

I only got to watch the first 20 minutes or so of Constantine’s Sword. I intended to watch it, but I’ve had a lot of crazy/busy stuff going on lately – mainly with the issues with my house that I’m trying to get the builder to fix.

Your idea of weekly discussion is a great one and I would like to see it continue. Although, I can’t commit to being able to do it every week (that is finding the time to view a movie before it’s time for discussion).

Anyway, I just wanted to say – I think it’s a great idea and I’d like to participate. But, there are some weeks (or maybe many) where I just may not find the time. As you (MH) know my life has been really busy lately – the past couple of weeks – with issues with my builder and it is chewing up a ton of my spare time.

But, I think that was a great idea you had, so hope it continues – but of course it is a waste of time if no one else but you participates!

And, I don’t know that today I’ll have time to watch Doubt. Waiting for my wife to get up and then it’s kind of a full day of shopping. Yesterday as you (MH) know we went to that pet show in Chantilly so that consumed pretty much all of yesterday.

My problem is, I have lots of TV and movies that I’d like to watch, and nowhere near enough time to watch them! I’m barely able to keep up with things I record on the dvr fast enough to erase them so I don’t fill it up and run out of room!

That sounds like a good idea – anything that would help make it easier for more people to contribute to the weekly discussion – and solve MH’s problem of not always getting enough participants (but she says she only needs 2) to make it worth having the weekly movie discussion.

Was that an intentional movie analogy you threw in there! I thought that was funny.

Hope Rick comes back, as he really has the makings of a movie critic – and his reviews of other movies were very well written.

  11. Yes, GR, intentional for sure. Rick had better come back. I have the new movie thread all ready to rock n roll.

Good idea. Will you suggest one? Can’t you download to your computer?

Anyone else with a suggestion, please post up on the Doubt thread which will be arriving later tonight.

  13. The movie thread will be up for a week. We can always roll them closer to the front if there is a lot of activity. Suggestions por favor.

Let me get back to you tomorrow with a suggestion. I’ll look at what’s available to download immediately. I’m probably the only one who prefers my tv. My computer chair is too uncomfortable to want to watch a movie from.
