The huge unseen presence hung over the Capitol yesterday as the democrats voted for the hotly debated Health Care Reform Legislation.  That presence was the spirit of the Lion of the Senate:  Senator Teddy Kennedy.  Health Care Legislation was Kennedy’s life-long goal during his long tenure in public service.  His widow, Vicki Kennedy, visited the grave of her deceased husband to reflect.

Huffington Post:

Appearing on CNN’s ‘John King, USA’ the widow of former Sen. Ted Kennedy pointed to the commitment made by President Barack Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi as particularly critical for reform’s passage.

“I think that President Obama showed incredible determination and courage and focus when he continued this battle; and Speaker Pelosi to continue to rally the troops and the leaders in the House of Representatives showed incredible determination and focus and courage,” Kennedy said. “And I think it is a real tribute to all the members of the House of Representatives as well. I think it is a real tribute to all of them and I am deeply, deeply, grateful, as I think are the American people.”
Kennedy echoed a common refrain from her late husband — a longtime health care reform champion — in arguing that the public will fully embrace the legislation’s passage.

You know Teddy always said that when we finally pass health care reform and when people understand what’s in the bill and what benefits there are for them, they are going to say ‘What took you so long?’ And I think that’s going to happen here,” Kennedy said

I’m sure that Teddy is smiling from his perch in heaven.

  2. I feel certain that he is. Health care was his life-long goal.

Too bad he didn’t stick around long enough to see it though. Vicki will be present when the bill is signed into law.

She certainly is a classy lady. She was very good for Teddy.

Ms. Kennedy saying, “…when we finally pass health care reform and when people understand what’s in the bill and what benefits there are for them…” reminds me of

    Modern liberalism defined.

    1. “X” feels good/right/superior to me
    2. “X” should feel good/right/superior to others
    3. Others aren’t choosing “X” of their own free will
    4. I know better
    5. Force “X”

Purely political CYA, sort of a – “hey what your did was the right thing to do – cause Teddy would have loved it – even if it puts your job and the country in jeapardy. Teddy, like those who supported him, was a dangerous liberal Senator who did not believe in limited government – or worse – believed in direct government solutions to problems that could be otherwise addressed.

What bothers me about this whole thing is the Democrats disregard for the very real anger and concern for (1) the WAY they are changing America – and (2) WHAT they are changing America into. Pushed by the entitlement class and the guilty do-gooders (who are happy to use other people’s money) the democrats argue that we are moving forward. Given our current debt, I think the best historical example right now is the early Wiemer Republic – and although I am sure it could never happen here – you know how that turned out.

  5. Remember, they have stated that we are just uneducated rubes that don’t know any better or what is good for us. That is the premise behind the progressive movement. Because of their expertise, their inside knowledge, they know what to do better than the populace.

Guess I’ll just go back to bitterly clinging to my guns and my……principles. Not much of a Bible reader.

Cargo, we should go out target shooting. 😉

On the upside, my wife who is fairly liberal minded has made the switch to the dark side and will vote for any person that’ll abolish healthcare. HCR was the breaking point for her. So, on the upside to this – the public will galvanize against those who violated us by voting for this mess. We need to restore the republic and vote in candidates that will respect the Law.

If I can get the right connections, I think I’m going to run for office in VA 52. I can’t just sit on my butt and not fix things.

Starryflights :I’m sure that Teddy is smiling from his perch in heaven.

Teddy is not in heaven – not yet anyway. First comes justice, for if there is no justice in heaven there is no God and if there is no God there is no heaven to smile from. What was that young women’s name… Making up for it by turning his public service into some sort of pennence by turning the government into some sort of Charity is not going to do it.

I have a feeling the election this year will be interesting, and lots of people will be motivated to vote, due to strong opinions about what happened with HCR. It will make for a very interesting election season!

@Starryflights You mean you get to go to heaven if you cause someone’s death, and then use your family’s power, money and influence to silence the victim’s family?

I’m in the wrong branch of Catholicism, apparently.

  10. Mary Jo Kopechne. Only God dispenses true justice. And now Mr. Kennedy knows where he stands…….God rest his soul and forgive him.

  11. And I am in the wrong branch of Christianity if mankind is allowed to speculate about what happened over 40 years ago and use that speculation to determine who goes where in the hereafter.

    …pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Does that mean once they are dead we can kick them to the curb?

I was always taught it wasn’t up to me to play God and judge.

No matter. When the conversation degenerates to such an ignorantly vicious level as starry’s comment without any challenge by the blog moderators, the double standard here becomes blindingly obvious.

Hey, thanks, Moon. You’re setting a new low for “civil dialogue” with all of the gleeful anti-Catholic jabs you apparently have supported over the last week or so without any calls for “civility.” Now I think I get the “rules” here, and to whom they are really intended to apply.
