Now the AG Ken Cuccinelli is ready to file his third lawsuit against the United States of America. This time his is suing the EPA because they have said greenhouse gases and carbon emissions are harmful. According to Lychburg’s News and Advance:
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli stands ready to take more legal action against the federal government if the Environmental Protection Agency announces new fuel economy standards for vehicles Wednesday, he said in Lynchburg on Tuesday.
Cuccinelli has sued the EPA over its finding that greenhouse gases harm people, and if it issues regulations Wednesday that are based on that finding, “We will sue them again,” he told the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Virginia’s Democratic Party renewed its accusations Tuesday that two Cuccinelli lawsuits against the federal government over global warming and health care are wasting the state’s resources “to wage a personal, political fight.”
Apparently the AG missed seeing our atheletes disembark from the plane in Bejing 2 summers ago. Some of them were wearing gas masks because of the horrible air quality in that city. Where does the AG think that smog comes from? Could it be the millions of cars in that city?
What stance will out BOCS take on his new lawsuit? Will they be sending him atta-boy letters on Prince William County Board of Supervisors letterhead? At least one supervisors feels he was looking out for the people of Prince William County during the last letter of praise that went out to the AG. Will they be willing to look out for us now, since we live in one of the most impacted emissions areas? Will there be a directive for the AG, Cuccinelli to knock it off on our behalf?
The AG says these lawsuits only cost the $385 filing fee. Yea. Right. Is he also ignoring that we are all Americans and what the cost is double? We will pay the Virginia fees and the United States fees. Perhaps the AG forgot we are Americans. Meanwhile, I am not unconvinced that the AG ran for office just to advance his personal agenda and that we have given him the platform to do it. I have to get used to this new idea that carbon emissions and green house gas emissions are good for me. Why don’t I just go back to smoking?
Stay away from the plastic bags. Don’t exhale. Reminder, I am not arguing in favor or not in favor of CO2.
@marinm
Marinm, If it was not a constitutionally mandated requirement, I would agree with you– , but as a highly educated, high income, minority with home ownership, and two cars in the garage, it certainly could not do us any harm to assure that there are at least the same number of voices representing VA in Congress. Did you say you also have two senile parents and 6 kids living with you?
What I object to is the inclusion of any non-citizen in the census.
Your fears are echoed in the WSJ. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303450704575160151167429076.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
From the article:
“The census should be nothing more than a headcount,” Mr. [Ron] Paul wrote this month in his weekly column. “It was never intended to serve as a vehicle for gathering personal information on citizens.”
In a counter move, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R., N.C.), the top Republican on the House subcommittee that oversees the census, posted a message last week on Redstate.com, a popular conservative Web site, pleading with conservatives to fill out their forms.
The unstated concern: An under-representation of conservatives could mean fewer Republicans in Congress and state legislatures for the next 10 years.
“It’s your constitutional duty to respond to this,” Mr. McHenry said in an interview. “It’s often difficult for conservatives to separate overall government intervention from a question as simple as the census.”
The Hispanics are boycotting the census. The conservatives and libertarians are boycotting the census. Hmmmm…..who does that leave to be counted?
PWTP how on earth do you excluse non citizens? Plenty of people have lived here for 50 years who aren’t citizens. Would you require people show some sort of birth certificate to be counted?
Why do you feel that way? Don’t you think the govt. should know how many people are here? I figure they know about me anyway. They have us with the IRS, DMV, and throught social security administration if nothing else.
@Moon-howler
Some good points have been made here re; the census. I agree with Marinm’s point that it should be limited to a head count and not a Federally subsidized proflie survey. I also agree that it is an outdated relic of a bygone era but is still required by the Constitution — and was required in that document for the purpose of establishing the number of congressional seats. That means – to me- establishing the number of voters /citizens – with acklnoledgement that the compromise to the south was to count slaves in that base.
The idea of counting illegals today is for no other for purposes than to shift political power
(to largely urban areas) and to Democrats who have built an entire party by buying votes with public funding. Again, its not about how many are here – we have other data systems to count kids, marrigages, welfare receipiants, workers, and taxpaers. It is an attempt to skew political power and diminish the value of legal entry and American citizenship.
That census takers were the only significant source of job growth last quarter should also be cause for concern.
The joint lawsuit led by Florida and now grouping 18 states was filed on March 23. It claims the sweeping reform of the $2.5 trillion healthcare system violates state-government rights in the U.S. Constitution and will force massive new spending on hard-pressed state governments.
South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Louisiana, Alabama, Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Washington, Idaho, and South Dakota had previously joined Florida’s lawsuit.
“We welcome the partnership of Indiana, North Dakota, Mississippi, Nevada and Arizona as we continue fighting to protect the constitutional rights of American citizens and the sovereignty of our states,” Bill McCollum said.
The lawsuit says the health overhaul law — which expands government health plans for the poor, imposes new taxes on the wealthy and requires insurers to cover people with preexisting medical conditions — violates the Constitution’s commerce clause by requiring nearly all Americans to buy health insurance.
@Lafayette
Lafayette,
Sorry it took so long to reply, went out of town.
I usually searched the counties around Richmond, except for Hanover, extending out to about 2 hours drive. Stayed out of “Northern Virginia.”
