Sorry, I forgot to put this up. I promised an open thread weekly for all those things that fit no where else.

Everyone getting their taxes done? Groan!

64 Thoughts to “Open Thread for the week 4/12/10”

  1. @George S. Harris
So, should we also stop the matching foreign aid to Egypt? And why should Israel yell “uncle” and stop building APARTMENTS IN JERUSALEM, not unauthorized settlements? And who decides that settlements in a sovereign nation are unauthorized? Who should authorize them? The same people that have stated in writing that they want to kill every Jew in Israel? Israel defended itself, winning territory each time. If the Palestinians want peace, stop shooting at the Israelis. Here’s a thought problem. If the Palestinians dropped all of their weapons and swore peace forever, Peace would happen. Now, what would happen if the Israelis did the same?

So, your effective rate is 14%, including ALL taxes? Really?

We like the services too. Now, if that’s all they pay for, we would be happy. But we are not getting 3.5 trillion worth of services. Especially with a deficit of over 3 trillion dollars in 2009 and 2010 combined.

By all means kill the earmarks. Stop the wars, unless you mean to win. Stop the farm subsidies including ethanol and the alternative energy subsidies. Stop the HCR, Cap and Tax, Stimulus, and TARP. Stop Medicare D. In fact, if its not authorized by the Constitution. Stop it.

  2. Heck, since we are broke, put EVERYTHING on the table, including every “entitlement”, the wars, defense, every last program, and lets prioritize. Too bad. So sorry. We are out of money. Period. Full stop.

But, that would take courage. And leadership. And no one will do that. The voters want their “free stuff.” The taxes were taken out for Medicare, medicaid and SS. And they want that money. So that outlay has to be figured into the program while it is “fixed”, however we may mean that.

  3. There’s a new museum coming your way in Prince William County. I’ve been to the Tank Farm that was the private collection that is the core of the museum. Its outstanding.

The National Museum of Americans in Wartime.

My co-blogger, Concrete Bob, was involved in this and has posted some info, other links, and pictures, if you are interested.

@cargosquid You are absolutely right that they are lying.

Used to being coddled by the MSM, Rep. Jackson and co. were so sure that the press would flock to their side and that charges of racism would simply silence the opposition. It is disgusting to me that completely unsubstantiated, completely FALSE claims have gotten so much play.

  5. @PWC Taxpayer

I expect that we have a different idea of what an entitlement is. Let’s start by defining entitlements. Let’s see, I defended social security and medicare. I can’t think of anything else. Name me a few ‘entitlements’ you think I support.

  6. Cargosquid and Emma, are you so firm in your beliefs that you think in a crowd of several thousand, some people wouldn’t shout racial slurs?

I totally disagree. I have heard people making racial slurs my entire life and sometimes they weren’t even angry. I think you are both being incredibly naive.

There is no reason really for people like Bachman and what’s his name…guy with the pimp…to keep denying something that is unprovable one way or the other.

Maybe I have just known earthier ruder people in my life than you have. You really aren’t going to like the latest thread. I just think it is time to move on.

So if someone among the thousands yelled a racial slur while they were standing by the Washington Monument, but not at the Capitol entrance, does it count towards this incident? Where does the radius of guilt end? Arlington? Yes, I’m sure somewhere in America, someone uttered a racial slur at that precise moment. Does that mean the Caucus heard it? Show me the proof. Otherwise it’s all just a smear job.

I continue to find it interesting that the liberal class and their rmedia have been so able – successful really- in changing the subject from a provocative act of marching sans group through a rally of opposition – in a clear attempt to provoke (isn’t that itself illegal – its certainly not manerly) What do you think they expected? Reverse the roles (and they should) and what do you think would happen — oh, what are they calling tea partiers. Actually I am a little in awe of the liberal classes ability to demonize — somebody else in power did that a long time ago.

On Huckabee, his comments are bigoted and moronic. 8-12% of those kids are, while not puppies, gay themselves. Don’t know if God ever whispered that into Huckabee’s ear during prayer sessions.

  10. Rick Bentley

That figure may be inflated, maybe it’s more like 7% of us as gay or bisexual … http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_percent_of_the_world_is_gay

  11. Rick Bentley

Researching this and thinking a little, it is obvious that a sizeable portion of those not straight are not exclusively homosexual, but are actively bisexual.

Which raises the question for the Huckabees of the world, do you oppose marriage if one partner is bisexual (either actively, or not actively)?

Or, Mr. Huckabee, do you want screening for “gay tendancies”? Guys who like Barbara Streisand or Bette Midler? Or maybe just go whole hog and strap applicants to a “peter meter” or the female equivalent and measure their degree of personal excitement when same-sex erotica is presented to them?

Those who oppose “homosexuality” need to specify what it is they are opposed to. For adoption there is some clarity on that – some people want adoptive parents to be married, in heterosexual union. But in some matters there is less clarity – gay boy scout masters, clergy, etc.

We need to move towards clarity on what we mean when we say gay or homosexual. To me, “homosexual” means sexual attraction to the same-sex and not significantly to the other sex, and does not imply and particular level of sexual or romantic activity. “Bisexual”, significant attraction to both sexes. Some small percentage of people are asexual (I’ve known one). Is this really what anyone wants to discriminate based on – innate characteristics rather than behavior?

“Before men can act, an issue must be polarized. Men will act when they are convinced their cause is 100 percent on the side of the angels, and that the opposition are 100 percent on the side of the devil.”
