25 Thoughts to “Stephen Colbert, Scathing Commentary on Arizona Immigration Law”

  1. TWINAD

That was HILARIOUS. Thanks for posting!

  2. TooFunny

economic hit to their cajones! hilarious.

  3. Censored bybvbl

Yeah, the economic hit – PWC can identify with that!

  4. Elena

I espcially thought the “poor economy” was classic. I think what people forget it is that not just those “dasterdl”y undocumented willl leave, so will all the other people who afraid of being targeted, all the legal immigrants. Geez, what happened to this country, when did we let all “those” immigrants in anyway?! Oh wait, SHHHHHHH, don’t tell anyone guys, ALL my ancestors were immigrants too, mostly poor I imagine when they came here. However, the Congress did pass the Johnson-Reed act in 1924 to try to keep all those dirty Jews out, good thing my ancestors came here before that.

  5. Censored bybvbl

Elena, my ancestors on my father’s side were Irish – another unwelcomed group.

  6. Wolverine

    Legal immigrants targeted how?

  7. Elena

Legal immigrants being targeted by being asked for their “papers” to prove their status. People won’t be interested in being looked at like they are criminals, or if they have family members who may be out of status, they may also be more likely to leave.

  8. Second-Alamo

Stereotypical scare tactic ideas of what will happen. The same BS that Mexicans Without Borders was spewing here in PWC. There are enough illegals causing trouble in Arizona that the idea that the police will go looking for innocent people to question is ridiculous! They aren’t going to waste time stopping people for no good reason, because they have their hands full with the trouble makers already. This bill is so that the police can now boot the trouble makers out of the country so that they won’t have to repeatedly deal with them, which also costs the state money. The sooner the better!

  9. Captain Idiot-Face

San Francisco is calling for a city-wide boycott of Arizona. Like they have any money in the first place. Sorry Arizona, no more IOUs for you!

  10. El Guapo

“My great grandfather didn’t travel four thousand miles across the ocean to see this country overrun by immigrants.”

He’s funny. He recommended that Lindsey Graham release a sex tape to prove that he’s not gay. I mean come on. That’s gold, Jerry. Gold

    Second-Alamo,

This bill is so that the police can now boot the trouble makers out of the country so that they won’t have to repeatedly deal with them, which also costs the state money. The sooner the better!

In your wildest dreams will this happen. Having recently served on a grand jury, I can tell you that the real criminals have no trouble at all re-entering this country – repeatedly.

  12. SA, I can see the dark screen got in your head. Mexicans without Borders? Do they even still exist?

Only a federal judge can deport someone. Most of the time, unless serious crime is involved, people are released for status violations. I don’t know what AZ is going to do with everyone they round up. They certainly can’t demand that ICE come get them. If Sheriff Joe keeps them in pink underwear too long they will have the mother-lode of all class action lawsuits.

AZ need to prioritize its problems. Most immenent is the drug cartel violence. That is serious stuff that we don’t want in this country.

  13. Second-Alamo

Why do I still get the overwhelming feeling (at least from the media) that this country would rather support unknown individuals who have taken up residence in this country without authorization over the safety and wellbeing of its own citizens? I still don’t get it! All I ever hear is that:

    1. you can’t seal the border
    2. you can’t deport all of them
    3. any preventative enforcement is unconstitutional

Based on that analysis we might as well give up. Is that what you want to see happen? Especially now that we keep adding to our individual tax burden by providing even more support to the ‘poor’? Hey, I can afford to help a few, but not thousands!

my ancestors were immigrants to this country too, but they never dreamed of breaking in here illegally, and they were subject to inspection by immigration officials at ellis island. also, my ancestors never dreamed that when they came to this country they could suck the country dry through numerous welfare programs concocted by the democrat party which is only interested in their own political power and not the financial good of the country. when my ancestors came to this country the world’s population was a lot smaller than it is today, and america had a lot more room to accomodate newcomers. when my ancestors came to this country, their goal was to become english speaking americans, not to balkanize and fragment america.
bottom line: every country has a right and a duty to secure its borders. a country is defined by borders, language, culture. a country unwilling or politically unable to secure its borders will not last long as a country. and a president unwilling to secure the borders is failing to uphold his oath to protect the constitution.

  15. TWINAD

    e,

LOL. 1. “Suck the country dry”, 2. America had more room to accommodate them”, 3. President unwilling to secure the borders”. What are you a comedian?!!

    1. Not every immigrant takes advantage of welfare. What about immigrants that start their own businesses and they take off? For every immigrant on welfare there are more that are not using any services and in fact contribute more than the 50 % of tax payers that actually are not tax payers at all!!! About half of American’s pay no Federal income tax at all.

    2. Have you gotten on a flight out of DC or Dulles in the last few years? You have to be in the air for a whopping 15 minutes before it is green as far as you can see. There is PLENTY of room left in this nation for more people. How about starting in Detroit, too!?

    3. Oh, the border was sealed up tight before Obama became President! Yeah, right!!!!

Yes, you are a real genius with your commentary.

  16. e

    3. i never mentioned obama’s name once, i dont care democrat or republican; since eisenhauer neither party has been doing their duty in regards to when it comes to the border.
    2. obviously america still has a far lower population density than some other countries, but dont start whining to me over gridlocked highways, an overburdened energy grid, crumbling infrastructure…current trends put u.s. population at over a half billion in a few decades
    3. obviously not every immigrant is on welfare, and not every native born is a self making bill gates type entrepreneur. but you cant deny that a lot of the passion (you would say vitriol) on this issue of unchecked immigration is fueled by the fact that the democrat party over the last 50 years has spawned an enormous slew of social programs (any dollar you steal from your neighbor through the power of the state is welfare) that are on the verge of bankrupting the nation, and it is also undeniable that importing millions of largely impoverished denizens of the third world will overburden the system.

  17. Second-Alamo

MH, we’ve been fighting drugs in this country for years. If preventing those across the border from entering will in part prevent drug traffic, then perhaps that should be the focus. Maybe then people in general will get behind the border enforcement. Unfortunately this ‘those poor people’ mentality has blinded their vision of the more dangerous underpinnings. The threat of terrorists crossing has been laughed off, until something does happen. No one foresaw 9/11 either!

  18. TWINAD

    e,

You didn’t say presidents, you said “a president”, you obviously meant Obama.

I think we do need more unskilled workers so American’s can have the better jobs. The problem from my view is that many other people think we should “import” people for the skilled, better paying jobs, but keep working class people out. There is absolutely no excuse for American’s not being prepared to take the better paying, skilled jobs.

Remember, the immigrants that came here 100 years ago were impoverished too! They didn’t come over here with money in their pocket to buy a home! There is absolutely no difference between immigration of today and yesterday except it is now “illegal”. It’s dumb.

  19. Second-Alamo

T you are wrong. Does the term ‘immigration control’ mean anything to you? It existed 100 years ago.

  20. TWINAD

    SA,

Why can’t we have that now? Instead of just “closed borders”, you gotta find a way around the border to get in?

  21. Elena

    hey e,
You are actually incorrect. Your great aunt was smuggled into Ellis Island in a suitcase because she was ill. You grandfather was afraid they would send her back to Russia. Our ancestors broke immigration law, are you prepared to go back to Russia? Chldren of immigrants always end up speaking English, that is the cycle. In fact, many Jews spoke Yiddish in the Jewish neighborhoods and never learned English. I agree that people should learn English, but lets NOT forget our own heritage.

As far as bankrupting the nation, how is that 1.3 trillion dollar medicare prescripton drug act working out? You know, that one that was never paid for in the legislation passed by republicans? Or, how about the Iraq war that has cost billions? Oh wait, that’s right, Cheney said the plunder of Iraq’s oil would pay for the war. whoops, that didn’t turn out either.

  22. Elena

100 years ago as long as you weren’t one “them yellows” anyone could come here.

  23. E, it sounds like she’s got YOUR number. Better watch out, she knows where you live… 🙂

  24. Second-Alamo

I wonder what MLK would think of the president singling out groups based on race. Hmmmmmm The president wouldn’t be PROFILING voters now would he? So, everyone got soooooo upset over the Confederate month thing because it left out blacks, yet Obama leaves out white men in his video message to supporters and all is well. Now who sounds like a racist? Don’t tell me he wasn’t paying attention in church!

  25. PWC Taxpayer

AZ is speaking up and they like what they see. Illegally in the US is illegally in the State – same definitions.
