Does this offend anyone else? Does Cuccinelli think he is still running for office?

Does this behavior seem unseemly for a sitting attorney general?

Challenging ‘Obamacare?’ I guess the good AG won’t mind if I call him ‘Moochinelli?’

I am glad he is saving the American people if they send money. It just sounds like a cheap campaign stunt to me.

25 Thoughts to “Cucinnelli Must Think He is Still Running for Office…”

  1. Wolverine

What did that mailing say the donations were for specifically?

  2. I don’t know. Why is he collecting donations for anything? Isn’t he elected already? Why is he sending out letters begging money?

This sounds like an ooooop….sort of like the Prime Minister and the old lady bigot who wasn’t.

  3. Starryflights

Cuckoo Cucinnelli is at it again. He should resign his position immediately. He is an embarrassment to our great state.

Speaking of Prime Minister, I hope Nick Clegg wins the British election. Seems like the British public is tired of the same old Labor/Tory fights just like most Americans have had it with Democrats and Republicans.

Is it possible he is trying to pay off his campaign debts? If so, that is not unusual. It is something often done by politicians in both parties. You trumpet to your potential contributors what you are doing for them and then beg them for enough cash to bail you out of campaign debt. Happens often. Could also signify that the Cooch may be building a war chest for a run at another higher office. But I’d have to know more before jumping to any conclusions.

  5. Need to Know

Cooch and Corey are both already posturing to run for Lt. Governor in 2013. Cooch fired the first shot by filing his law suit immediately after passage of the health care bill and Corey returned fire with his proposed resolution directing staff to break the law by not administering Medicaid. Neither stunt is going to produce any real benefits for anyone. Both are hoping to fill their campaign coffers as quickly as possible.

I don’t like the health care bill either, but the way to change it is to elect new people to Congress this fall and in 2012. Moreover, let’s debate it on the facts rather than publicity stunts.

As a Republican, let me please ask both Cooch and Corey to quit embarrassing our Party, forget about the next election for the moment, and do the jobs you were elected to do.

  6. So Cucinnelli is running for Jefferson Davis’s old seat in Richmond? I wonder if Ken will be caught in wearing a dress while fleeing for his life after the Neo-Condeferate cause is spanked down a second time by the USA?

The only thing rising in the south is the BullSH*T!

I thought the lawsuit was only 350 dollars?

I’m stretching my rule of not talking politics here to the limit with this one, but Need to Know’s post above is very close to what I’ve heard from people whose opinions I trust. Just put the first two paragraphs of Need to Know’s post in a blender and see what comes out. At least that’s what I’ve been told. But then again, I’m just a Republican Operative.

Huh. I didn’t realize candidates actually incurred campaign debt in some cases. With all the campaign money being thrown around these day, it just didn’t cross my mind some had to use Visa in order to get elected : )

  10. Wolverine

You got it, Pinko. If I am remembering correctly, Hillary Clinton was at one time looking for ways to get get fellow Dems to help her pay off her campaign debts from the Democratic Party primaries in 2008.

    “Moochinelli”

    Ha ha. Good one!

I saw the letter – for whatever reason I can’t watch videos on this website (probably the security settings I use) and it seems pretty even keeled to me. That he’s asking for donations to the warchest doesn’t surprise me either. Politicians are always seeking donations/contributions for re-election. It might actually be a fairly wise investment if in 7~ years he’s interested in going for Governor (or 3 years if Bolling doesn’t run but I don’t see that happening).

I can see him being solidly elected next cycle for Atty General again. I do have a qualm on the raid of JMU’s paper looking for pictures and videos of the riot. To his credit, he said he supports any legal method to obtain that information so I don’t think he’s been asked himself if the raid was legal — that a judge signed off on the warrant though is telling.

I’m surprised I didn’t get one of these in the mail. I thought I was on ‘the list’. Not the government tracking list but on the Atty Generals.. I’ll have to look into that.

And, yes, Obama rallied his supporters after he got the nod to have his supporters donate to Hillary’s campaign to help her pay off some debt. Happens. I don’t see any issue with the President campaigning for Hillary or Boxer or whomever. That’s his right to do so.

  13. I just don’t like that he is trumpeting that he is suing the government. That whole mission offends me. I just feel it is uber-conservative grand-standing.

  14. marinm

Maybe, but is it anymore than any politician (or anyone else for that matter) trumpetting boycotts for AZ or lawsuits against the legislation?

I think its *good* that the AZ legislation be challanged in court. Just like healthcare, if it’s unconstitutional, lets get it fixed.

The impression I get from the letter alone is that Cooch is requesting funds for his lawsuit against Health Care Reform or Obamacare — whichever you prefer.

But that wouldn’t be appropriate if he’s filing suit on behalf of the state.

What’s also not appropriate is to file a lawsuit on behalf of the state so that he can use it as a fundraising platform.

This stinks any way you sniff it.

    1. Totally agree bubberella!

  16. Wolverine

But don’t politicians always use what they have done in office as a fundraising platform? If Harry Reid, for example, should send out a fundraiser letter to his potential supporters in which he touts how he was instrumental in getting the health care reform bll through the Senate, what’s the real difference?

    1. @ Wolverine

Harry Reid isn’t my problem, Cucinnelli is?

Cucinnelli just got elected. He isn’t trying to get re-elected….yet.

  17. George S. Harris

Remember Forrest Gump who said it best: Stupid is as stupid does.

This is not his personal lawsuit–it is a lawsuit in the name of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

I wonder if what he is doing is legal. Or can anyone solict funds from the public for whatever?

    1. @ George
He certainly does sound like he is touting the lawsuit as his own.

I just feel like he is doing this and begging money on the backs of all Virginians, like I should be happy his sorry arse was elected.

I am embarrassed that he is an official in my state.

Cuccinelli alert!!! Mr. Ashcroft lite is at it again – more fodder for Jon Stewart! No boobs on our state seal – at least not on staff lapel pins.

    Go Go General Cuccinelli!!!

    http://www2.dailyprogress.com/cdp/news/local/article/attorney_general_demands_papers_on_climate_data_from_uva/55634/

BTW, I do disagree with the Seal. Virtue has a breast sticking out. Big deal. Why cover it up? I think that it’s odd that we have laws that require women to cover up when men can go shirtless. Leave it up to the person, I say. Dang over reaching government.

  21. bubberella

If the letter had said something along the lines of “I need your help so that I can continue actions such as…” would be different than asking for money to support your lawsuit against Obamacare. That what the letter sounded like to me — that he was asking for funds to pursue a lawsuit.

It’s not unusual for a politician to raise money to retire a campaign debt. But in those cases, the letters usually mention that purpose — especially a candidate that won. What I got from the letter is that he was asking for donations to fund a lawsuit.

  22. Wolverine

Moon — Do you know where I can tap into a full copy of that Cuccinelli letter on the law suit? I would kind of like to read the whole thing myself without depending on Maddow’s cherry picking. Couldn’t find it in an intial search.
