An SUV was loaded with explosive materials in Times Square yesterday evening. Around 6:30 and alert t-shirt salesman who also happened to be a Vietnam veteran noticed suspicioius smoke coming out of the car and he also smelled gun powder. He alerted a mounted policeman who called in reinforcements and a bomb squad. The mounted police got the passersby out of harms way. Critical areas were evacuated.
CNN covered this incident most of the night. Eye witnesses were interviewed and some officials have spoken. The car bomb did not totally detonate. It is unknown if this was domestic or international terrorism. The mounted police and the vendor are being called heroes. They were aware of their surroundings.

This wouldn’t have anything to do with South Park now would it?
I wonder if Bloomberg will now retract his welcome to all illegal border crossers? We don’t know who is amongst those crossing into this country.
SA, they have no idea who did it.
Did they pass a background check for those explosives?
This is a rather serious situation. Thousands upon thousands of people could have been killed were it not for quick thinking on the part of a vendor and the mounted police. The crowds were cooperative and followed direction.
Rather than using this critical time as a chance to get in a dig on our own personal agendas, it seems more like the time to salute those who really were heroes and who saved lives.
Where’s Jack Bauer when you need him? Probably was doing something unnecessary like getting a bite to eat, or hitting the bathroom! What a slacker. ; )
They have no idea who did it, but if I had to bet it wasn’t someone who was ticked off at the federal government. This was someone who wanted to take out innocent people. I may be ‘profiling’ here, but I seem to read a lot about bombs killing innocent people in the Middle East. Just guessing.
Sure, it could be one of our own citizens, but the probability is much less.
Nothing personal about either issue. These are both issues of national importance in my view.
CAIRO, Egypt – The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the failed car bomb attack in Times Square in New York City.
In 1 minute video allegedly released by the Pakistani Taliban, the group says the attack is revenge for the death of its leader Baitullah Mehsud and the recent killings of the top leaders of al-Qaida in Iraq. Images of the slain militants are shown as an unidentified voice recites the message. English subtitles are at the bottom of the screen.
The video was uncovered Sunday by the U.S.-based SITE intelligence Group, which monitors militant websites.

Has anyone else claimed responsibility? I haven’t been listening.
the practitioners of the religion of peace have struck again
Apparently, someone found a video with a white guy changing his shirt and slipping down an alley near the scene of the crime.
Also:
“A Pakistani Taliban group claimed responsibility for the failed attack in a 1-minute video. Kelly, however, said police have no evidence to support the claims, and noted that the same group had falsely taken credit for previous attacks on U.S. soil. The commissioner also cast doubt on an e-mail to a news outlet claiming responsibility.”

Latest news is that the authorities are seeking a white male who was caught at the scene on video.
I suspect that the person who did this was a tea bagger mad at Obama. That’s why we have to watch how we debate these matters. Words matter and some people may get carried away.
Sorry Starry, but you and Janet Nepalitano fantasies about “tea bagger” terrorism remain a fantasy. Even your buddy Obama is saying this was “International” (which is I guess their new euphanism for Muslim terrorists.)
Starryflights is absolutely spot on: “Words matter and some people may get carried away.” Now, if Starryflights will just repeat that line once again while looking in a mirror.
The situation in NY is very serious and we dodged a huge bullet thanks to the incompetence of some would-be evil doers and the alertness of ordinary Americans going about their every day lives.
It appears that this incident was connected to an international terrorist organization.
It should not be trivialized with petty politics.
“I suspect that the person who did this was a tea bagger mad at Obama.”
Seriously?
Some things are best ignored.
Thousands of people dodge a terrorist attempt and we have to go to troll remarks?
🙄
Sometimes it does become necessary to knock the troll off the bridge.
