I was truly saddened when I watched this video. How sad, that the immigration debate has become so poisoned, even a good old fashioned soccer games is vulnerable to a display of complete and utter ignorance. I dare anyone to suggest this is not a result of the despicable behavior seen at the national level. Oh, but wait, I am just being silly when I refer to the hate that is growing towards Hispanics, its just all in my silly imagination.
Instead of hate directed towards Hispanics, why don’t you address it as a general hostility between NATIONALITIES? I see more hostility coming from the illegal alien crowd and their supporters towards Americans and whites than I do the other way. I see the hostility of Americans towards the Hispanics as a reaction.
Besides, if this is a “good, old fashioned soccer game,” riots and a war are about to start. Remember, old fashioned “futbol” games are known for the hostility of the fans, from England to Mexico.
This is what we are teaching our children. Disgraceful.

Omaha, NE – A celebration is tarnished by the act of some students. What happened after last night’s Nebraska State Boy’s Soccer Championship, has some teens in hot water.
Lincoln East High School is taking action against several students for the soccer stunt. After winning the game against Omaha South High School, students from Lincoln East rushed the field. Some tossed home-made “green cards” into the air.
The cards floated down around the South High Players. Many of the players are of Hispanic heritage. After dealing with the devastating loss in the match, they then found themselves hit with the cruel prank.
“It’s one of the best feelings just making it to that game,” says Billy Loera, an Omaha South senior. “Having it end like that was just disgraceful.”
“To me, these guys are my brothers,” says Omaha South Junior Alex Stillinger. “So it hurt me being the only non-Latino on the team.”
Students at Lincoln East are also upset.
“They are devastated that this is how people perceive us,” says Principal Susan Cassata.
The Lincoln East Principal tells Action 3 News that some students handed out the cards on Tuesday. A day later, the school hands them suspensions.
The principal won’t tell us exactly how many students were involved. She says what they did impacted the entire student body.
“Their hearts hurt in ways that I don’t know they realize that they didn’t know it was possible to hurt as high school students,” says Cassata.
Loera says in this match, both sides lost.
“It’s kind of a shame that they just won the biggest game of their lives and instead of celebrating, that is what comes to their minds.”
Lincoln East staff and students are writing apology letters to their counterparts at Omaha South High School.

Because it was against Hispanics. ‘Green Card’ expressions are always directed towards Hispanics and have been for as long as I can remember.
Kids to stupid things. I hope that someone found out who did it and gives them a life lesson in the way of banishment from all sporting events for a calendar year. Its one thing to chase mascots. Its another to have mock green cards. No class. Good that many at the winning school were embarrassed. They, on the other hand, have some class.
There are always fools who will try to ruin it for everyone.
I think the Coach/Principal of the school should forfeit the win.. Not for racism but just for sportsmenship.
Agreed. No class.
Do I think that the FBI/DOJ needs to investigate? No.
Having five grandchildren currently playing youth soccer, I have noticed something else which also disturbs me. The Hispanic kids do not join nearly enough the organized youth soccer leagues which have never discriminated in any way. Instead, the Hispanics often form their own leagues. It is almost like some sort of self-instigated apartheid. And please don’t tell me participation in the established leagues is too expensive. It isn’t.
Marin, hold on to your hat…I agree 75%. I dont like racism thrown around. It is something though. I can’t think of a word.
Wolverine, why does that happen? Does anyone know? And thank you for bringing it up. It certainly fits in this thread. I understand why adults join their own leagues. Kids? I don’t understand.
I have a couple of ideas though and it might have to do with liking the rules that the league soccer go by. But what do I know. Anyone else?
The coach should forfeit. And each student should write an apology.
Shameful.
@Wolverine
One reason they might form their own leagues is to keep the competition level at a higher level, IN THEIR OPINION. They might think that Americans can’t play to their level.
Two, they haven’t assimilated.
Three, they don’t want to assimilate.
I believe the term is “extreme racial hate”. Get your ShellyB quotes right.
It’s clear from the video that hispanics will do ANYTHING for an excuse to cry “racism”. No wonder nobody watches CNN anymore. If they were blue cards, who would that offend? If they were pink cards, they would have been accused of offending homosexuals. Maybe penalty cards should be mauve with silver glitter? Hispanics would still use it as an excuse to cry racism. It’s getting fun in America!
I see you are doing the pigeon thing, CIF–doing a fly through and crapping on every thread. Things must be boring elsewhere.
Cargo, your explanation probably does explain the adult leagues. Not so sure about the kid leagues though. Many are very assimilated or at least as assimilated as any other minority in this country.
The USA did hop on the soccer bandwagon rather late. Mr. Howler still doesn’t accept it has happened. He thinks it is a place for kids to learn to play football.
Very sad that, even if this clear circumstance, CIF, you are intent on remaining blinded.
The behavior is sad and stupid, but I can’t believe we’re talking about it at length.
I guess that if i went to the middle of town and drew a swastika in marker or scrawled “All Fags Must Die” (I remember seeing that one on toilet walls in my youth), or some anti-Latino slur then I could probably get 100 people or so to talk about it at length.
We tend to overreact to things like this. There were guilty parties, who are young and dumb. No crime was committed.
