From the Chesapeake Bay Foundation:

Bob the Trout asks you to support the Chesapeake Clean Water Act and help make his home a safer place to swim. When CBF was casting for the part of Bob, many Bay species expressed interest in the role. We heard from flounder, rockfish, and even a few oysters. But the rainbow trout we chose, besides having a great voice, also illustrates that cleaning up the Bay necessitates cleaning up thousands of freshwater streams, creeks, and rivers in the 64,000 square mile watershed

.

Is this environmental? Is there a chance that the Chesapeake Bay will be impacted by the oil spill?

The legislation is in front of Congress now. Please call, write or visit your Congressional representatives. Write letters of support to your local papers. Host or attend meetings that discuss and build support for the legislation. You can find information and resources on our Action Center web page.

Why do I think that there are those out there who oppose congressional efforts to save the Chesapeake Bay from environmental hazards? What happens to places when there is no regulation of who comes in and what gets dumped? How do farm lands many miles from the bay impact the Chesapeake Bay? Should certain materials and their disposal be regulated?

7 Thoughts to “The Chesapeake Bay Foundation: Bob the Trout Needs our Help”

  1. So is Bob the trout going to get oil slicked?

  2. Is this anything like Billy the singing bass?

  3. Bob has a better speaking voice.

I hope Bob has a Spanish version of this ad. In the runoff right behind our house, our local immigrants deposit their pee, their used vehicle fluids, and their litter on a regular basis. That runoff goes into the Broad Run, which then empties into the Potomac, which then goes down to the mouth of the Chesapeake. We’ve complained to the authorities without adequate response. We ourselves have endeavored periodically to clear the trash out of there. We need some help in this. Bob, start taking Spanish lessons.

  5. I would think that would be a legitimate request to be made to Bob’s sponsors, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Pollution is pollution. What is the county doing about this? If you went to the BOS a few times they might get out there.

Or…if urine is a problem…there are always electric fences. 🙄 Many a hunter has been thrown several yards across a field because of them.

Can’t you call the cops because of the vehicle fluids?

  7. Wolverine

Pinko, by the time the cops could get here the deed would be done and the perps gone — except if they have done the deed in their assigned parking space by dumping the fluids into the gutter and letting them run down the drains which lead into the runoff. Then I can get the HOA to take action. One guy had a leaky radiator. Every morning he used to fill it up. The parking space began to look like someone had painted it. He didn’t speak a lick of English. Our Spanish-speaking HOA manager finally told him to get that leaky car out of here or it would be towed out.

As far as the rest of it goes, our county has never had enough police or personnel to cover all the bases; and we are going through the same budget crisis right now as everyone else. It looks to me like the only real hope right now is some education. But, seeing the lack of reaction to warnings from our HOA about such things as trash disposal, etc., even that may not work.
