Get a grip–Elmer Fudd and his problem with Rs has been around perhaps longer than you have. Some things are just funny–period. People don’t think of it as a “serious speech impediment”–it is slap stick comedy.

So George was just making fun of Elmer Fudd and not Asian speech. Interesting, and how did Elmer Fudd enter into the subject matter, twice? I guess I gave him the idea afterwards with my comment about a cartoon. Oh well, it’s all in print for others less biased to form an opinion. Well the next time someone makes a crack about beans I hope you all take it with the same level of humor. Perhaps we should have a thread on ethnic humor just to be fair to all races. I’m sure George has plenty of material.

Come on George, Rick was just making fun of a poorly constructed bed just like you were only imitating Elmer Fudd, so why the name calling all the sudden? Grow up! Take it like a man.
Back to immigation issues….if Barry Wong is elected, what controls does the State of aZ have over what he does and does not do about cutting off electricity to certain clients?
As I understand it Wong has no other votes lined up on the Power Board, so this is a long shot. Theoretically it could end up in the courts. But there’s no outpouring of support for this measure, which in the Arizona heat could lead to fatalities, of adults and children.
But – he sent a message. And made a name for himself. And kept the issue at the front of the news. So good for him. I would vote for him if I could. Rather a stuntsperson and self-promoter than another tool of the two parties.
I want to see all ideas proposed that will upset the status quo and send the message that ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE REALLY NOT WELCOME. In Arizona, that message is being sent loud and clear.
Texas is next. Virginia won’t be too far behind.
The message is more important than the specifics of implementation. First we need to steer our ship of state into the right direction, so to speak.

I’ve never been in the power industry; but, for the love of me, I can’t see how this thing Wong is proposing could ever be implemented. What? After he checks your meter, the electric company guy is going to ask to see your ID? Good luck. I’ve seen the illegal immigrants near me outfox even the census taker. I think Rick is right. It’s the message here. And it’s a whole bunch of people with electoral aspirations at every level realizing that the Arizona bandwagon is moving and deciding to try to jump aboard. The only problem is that, when the ancilllary “messages” start to get a little out of whack, they can cause the bandwagon some forward motion trouble.
I don’t see how illegal immigrants can be seen as potential voters–even if they were all made legal tomorrow, there would be a 5 year wait before they could take a citizenship test.
I would go so far as to say if there is any kind of status change from illegal to legal, perhaps there ought to be a double waiting period to apply for citizenship. Or maybe no citizenship, just permanent residency if no crimes are committed. I think we need to take the political advantage out of the equation.
Getting elected or re-elected because of a staunch anti illegal immigrant stance is a ploy I have witnessed with my own eyes. It plays on people’s misery and fears. The thing is, the things the politician promises can rarely be implemented.

It’s still be political. Both sides would still chase the Latino voting block that exists here now.
It’s key to elections. Obama will not win the white vote in 2012. He’ll lose the white vote, soundly. If he doesn’t get solid turnout among Latinos, and win a high proportion of them, he won’t win.
This is a President more tied up in and trapped by racial identity politics than Nixon ever was.
I don’t recall Nixon being that tied up in racial identity politics. Goldwater, yes. Nixon, not really. Maybe I just was asleep during the Nixon years.
Obama cannot get the illegal alien vote. I am not sure how involved in the election process citizen Latinos are. Does anyone have stats?
The irony is that if we had leadership, most Americans of every persuasion are personally ready to move byond this tribal thinking. But leadership from Washington? Who am I kidding.

10 million Latino voters in 2008 Presidential election – who favored Obama over McCain 67% to 31%.
Obama/The Democrats did not win the white vote in 2008, I believe. (They never do apparently). And he/they are polling worse now – http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/04/AR2010070403988.html
In Washington Post-ABC polling, Obama’s approval rating among white voters has dropped from better than 60 percent to just above 40 percent. In a June poll, 46 percent of white voters under age 40 approved of how Obama was doing, compared with just 39 percent of whites 65 and older.
So what’s easier to do – gain the confidence of whites, or convince Latinos that he really cares about the issue of illegal immigration?
We as a people will collectively pry this issue from Obama’s cold dead hands. He and his staff rather obviously believe that preserving status quo on illegal immigration is a key to political success.

But how do you construct that to mean that illegals voted? What weed are you puffing? Or is it some kinda pill? There are over 44 million Hispanics in the U.S. as of 2006 according to the Census Bureau. If it includes illegals, then there are still more than 33 million and 1/3 voted for President Obama. Is that so unreal?
