Sharron Angle, the woman who wants to replace Harry Reid as Nevada Senator, has some pretty extremist ideas, even though she is attempting to temper some of her extremism since the primary election. The one thing she is not softening on is abortion, even in cases of rape and incest. According to the Huffington Post:
Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle has moderated a host of policy positions in her transition from a primary candidate to general election contender battling Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. One thing she has not backed away from has been her insistence that abortion should be outlawed universally, even in cases of rape and incest.
In a radio interview Angle did in late June, the Tea Party favorite re-affirmed her pro-life sensibilities (rigid, as they are, even within Republican circles), when she insisted that a young girl raped by her father should know that “two wrongs don’t make a right.” Much good can come from a horrific situation like that, Angle added. Lemons can be made into lemonade
Lemonade? OMG. We truly are in the middle of a culture war. How on earth can someone make that kind of determination for someone else?
I can not believe Sharron Angle is polling so well in Nevada with all her extremist views. Her new Washington DC handlers are earning their money. It has to be more difficult than trying to promote Palin for vice president(I never thought I would say that!).I’ll let you women comment on incest rape or rape of any kind, but I can’t imagine it ever being acceptable to anyone’s pro-life sensibilities.
I can’t believe anyone is that politically rigid. Perhaps Angle should look at the interview on Jon Stewart about the mistakes of prohibition. I doubt that the women of Nevada will allow themselves that kind of set back.
Primaries are often where the more extreme person gets nominated because the following comes out to vote. Winning in a primary and winning in a general election are not the same. Fimian will find out the he is outnumbered come the general election. Herrity might have given Connally a run for his money.
This would be the more appropriate place to discuss abortion. Have at it.
So who agrees with Sharron???
Lafayette, while those people demonstrating along the Forestwood area of Sudley Road aren’t Operation Rescue and are doing nothing violent, I agree that they are very distracting along a dangerous stretch of road. I have seen many accidents along there over the years. I don’t know of a better place for them to go. They cannot go on private property and they do have a right to demonstrate.
I was sorry to see the City cave and relax their common sense ordinances which made things a little safer. The irony of those protestors is that they become free advertisement for the clinic that is back there. If anyone tried to move those protestors probably the clinic owner would be out demonstrating on anyone who tried to move them. She has admitted they save her thousands of dollars a year in advertising.
Granted, they are not violent. I fully respect their right to protest. I doubt their “work” on Sudley Rd sways people to believe like them or stop them from having a LEGAL medical procedure such as abortion. They are nothing more than a distraction to drivers imho. I also, have a problem with groups waving the Car Wash signs and collection buckets on the medians and at traffic lights. What about the safety of the living?
Well, glad to hear they are saving big bucks on advertising. Thanks, zealots!
Totally agree with you, Lafayette.
I also don’t like all the little kids standing along the road. I hope they aren’t still doing that. Little kids are unpredictable and can dart out in front of cars. The speed limit along Sudley Road there is just too fast.
I disagree with Ms. Angle’s view that a national law should be used for abortion as I think it’s something that should be decided by the States.
I hope that she wins the race.
Patchwork of laws. Why don’t you all just work to disband the United States and just become Virginians, or New Jerseyites or whatever it is that floats your boat.
How good is it to have different laws in different states whether we are discussing immigration, guns, abortion, marriage, or whatever else.
If you live long enough, it will end up coming full circle.
Elena,
funny how the very people who want to get rid of illegal immigrants seem to want legislation that will cause illegal abortions.
I have never figured out why so many people who oppose abortion also oppose contraception.
Making abortion illegal will not get rid of abortion. It will only make it less safe.
Do you believe if it becomes a state issue that the states will choose to ban the practice? I don’t believe they could if they wanted to as abortions are protected.
marin, there are some get out the vote issues. The ones I mentioned are definitely issues that will get out those with special interests. Just IS.
Won’t work. It can’t be banned.
I see it as a dead issue from that perspective.
Now, I think with the govt arguing commerce clause that if the pro-lifers are smart about it… They’ll argue that abortion is against the commerce clause as it denies the govt the use of future taxpayers. Now, thats an arguement that’ll be fun to see in the courts.
What can’t be banned? Abortion? I wouldn’t count on that.
Commerce clause would be enacted over shutting down someone’s business probably. I don’t know. I let lawyers figure out stuff like that.
47% of the people don’t pay federal taxes. That would have to be filtered in. I don’t know why that sticks in my craw so much.
Cargo, you could have fooled me…..
As for time periods, I am comfortable with the restrictions of Roe.
Certainly the closer to term one becomes, the more repugnant abortion becomes. Certainly third trimester abortions should be restricted to the most extreme of cases that involve health of the mother and fetal anomoly.
Most of our laws aren’t spelled out in the Constitution, Kelly. How about school desegregation. Is that the 29th Amendment? How about regulating flight?
