From the Richmond Times Dispatch:

Richmond, Va. —

Gov. Bob McDonnell indicated today that he will try to sell ABC privatization to the General Assembly as “a windfall for transportation.”

The proceeds from the auction sale of ABC licenses — the state expects to realize $300 million to $500 million — will go entirely for road maintenance, McDonnell said.

He appeared on Washington radio station WTOP’s “Ask the Governor” program.

Asked about a recent VCU poll which showed him with a 48 percent approval rating — low by gubernatorial standards — McDonnell said it reflects the people’s concern about jobs and the economy.

He also said there are no plans to proceed with phasing out the personal property tax on cars and trucks because of the state’s current fiscal situation. The 2002 General Assembly froze the phase out was frozen at about 65 percent of the assessed value of vehicles.

Apparently McDonnell believes in flash in the pan money.  What will he do to make up all the money that the sale of liquor brings in to the state annually?  This seems like a George Bush live for today, hell with tomorrow kind of scheme to me, rather than carefully planning out a course of action to guarantee certain finances we can count on.

Some of us don’t want to look like Maryland or DC with a liquor store on every corner.  I sure hope a certain someone cornered the governor last night and gave him a piece of her mind about Virginia tradition.

Geez, enough already. The personal attack – go away response is to be expected here. Call out a liberal or socialist ideology and its the same old thing. I don’t expect the arguments presented to be acknowledged anymore than I do the labels/definitions. I am tested and I like it. I push and like being pushed. I sometimes learn and I sometimes learn how to present the case by better understanding the reaction.

I just wish you liberal progressive facists felt the same way. 🙂

Calm down. Its a blog – nothing more.

That’s pretty funny stuff. My family will get a chuckle when they find out that their old conservative dad might have been called a liberal progressive fascist. Don’t let it get out, I might have to quit some of my organizations. 🙂

If you left because of me–shame on you. And I don’t recall you being mentioned in this thread. Think about the old heat and kitchen thing.

Rez–I try to not rise to the bait, but sometimes just cannot help myself. I have been a liberal for all of my 77 years and I really dislike people who say “liberal” and “progressive” like they are the filthiest words they know. I am firmly convinced that if liberals are associated with being progressive that conservatives are more than likely associated with being “regressive.” They want us to revert to 16th century America because they believe they know exacty what the founders were up to in Philadelphia and I say the founders didn’t have a clue about what it would be like today and more than we have any idea what it will be like in another 250 years.

Well, since I am a conservative, we will not likely agree on much. But that’s okay with me. It will be some interesting debates. Wolfie and I don’t agree on much sometimes either.

I want to help my fellow man, I just have a conservative fiscal view that I think works better than government funding. So from that standpoint I am probably libertarian by nature.

  6. Taxpayer, Let me be very clear. You have been offensive on this blog, in particular to me. Knock it off. It isn’t up to you to be calling people out. The blog is for discussion, not the sniping you do on a continual basis.

I am simply not going to tolerate it any more. You are intentionally trying to goad while the rest of us are trying to discuss.

Sorry it has come to this.

I still do not know what the sound byte “privatize ABC” means.
