Once again Manassas gets media attention.  This time it isn’t Mr. Fernandez:

K K Temptations, an adult boutique, will be opening next month in Old Town Manassas.

Perhaps the first thing people need to do is clarify in their own minds what really constitues ‘porn.’ I have a sneaking suspicious we wouldn’t all agree, especially if some people thought others were watching.

I am curious if a boutique that featured magic, the occult, and earth centered religions would be greeted the same way? Would the Old Guard try to run it off also? 13 Magickal Moons is in historic Occoquan and has been for many years.

I am continually amazed at people who want free enterprize and less government until it is something a little off the beaten, non-vanilla path. Then there is great howling for the government to fix things. I guess that is better than burning people at the stake, however.

17 Thoughts to “Upscale Adult Boutique Criticized by Old Town Concerned Citizens”

  1. I like what the owner said in the news report. They should have talked to her first. What we have here is a failure to communicate and a rush to judgment. Fire, ready, aim! Welcome to Manassas!

KK Temptations will do for Old Town Manassas what Ginger Rogers did for Fred Astaire. Before Ginger, he was just a brother-sister act. She gave him sex appeal and the result was movie magic. Old Town needs a little “naughty” to go with the “nice.”

  2. Slowpoke Rodriguez

I love it when they use a word like boutique to give it a more civilized tone.add a name of French extraction. How about old English? “Ye olde Rubber Weenie Shoppe”!

  3. Cindy, right now its sort of hard to see nice with all the rush to judgement. Thanks for your most valued opinion and insight. You are completely right about Ginger Rogers. And back in the day, (my mother’s day) they were considered sexy.

  4. Ye Ole Rubber Weenie Shoppe has quite a ring to it. I expect the FF of M would probably object.

Somehow that store front just doesn’t look like a ‘porno’ shop.

I am more concerned that the good FF of M would even consider videoing people going in and out. Talk about harassment and intimidation.

I think if that happens, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be called to come sing some good hymn for the folks.

  5. RingDangDoo

Cool. Now we just need a gun shop, liquor store and brothel and we’ll be all set.

    }:-)

  6. The liquor store is several blocks away. There is a gun smithing shop in Old Town. The owner does excellent work. Sorry Ring, the brothel would be illegal.

I am good with the first 2.

  7. RingDangDoo

That’s cool. I was jesting. I love old Town and this doesn’t bother me much. 😉

  8. I thought you were kidding. I like to drink in old town. sigh

    😉

  9. El Guapo

Something for whiners to complain about other than illegal aliens.

  10. I think that the state should take over the “adult” stores, for our protection, in the same way that they did the liquor stores. Can’t have any “adult” stuff getting in the hands of those too young to handle it. Private enterprise can’t handle it. We need to have the state control it….

    I have see the light!

  11. You are 70 plus years too late for that one.

I am still thinking about that $250 million dollars in profit annually….and the fact that we don’t have stores on every corner with arrows pointing down saying LIQUOR in neon lights.

  12. Big Dog

FYI: Editorial in today’s Manassas News&Messenger supports the opening
of the store and WaPo’s PW section has an article that notes the owners
are a mother and daughter and their primary target customers are women.

Like it or not, the business has certainly received a large amount of
free publicity/buzz — prior to opening.

  13. If the governor succeeds with his campaign promise, can a liquor store open in Old Town Manassas? I know my parents’ town of Mitchell, Nebraska (pop. less than 2,000) had four of them on their main street, right next to the bowling alley, library, post office and farm coop.

  14. Big Dog

The Philadelphia Tavern building in Old Town looks like it is a
    converted ABC store.

  15. @Moon-howler
You say “we don’t have stores on every corner with arrows pointing down saying LIQUOR in neon lights.” like that’s a good thing….

I grew up in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast where there are DRIVE THRU liquor stores. And the booze was cheap and plentiful. Private enterprise should be privately owned.

  16. And Virginians preferred not to have that scene back in the 30’s. It was their choice to have the state control liquor.

Most private corporations would like to have the profits Virginia has as well as the smooth operations. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I don’t think I want my state’s booze to be cheap and plentiful. I think I like it just the way it is.

  17. Rubber Wienie shop…hahahahaha! I remember seeing something strange in a shop in Norfolk and asking the proprietor “What the hell is that used for?” He replied,” I use one of those on my boat for killing sharks….”
