We are suppose to get nice weather for the weekend. Won’t that be nice! Elena and her family are camping out–campfire and all.
Does anyone have special plans for the long weekend?
Same as Elena…camping! Leaving in a few minutes. Hope I don’t forget anything essential like the paper plates I forgot last time!
So, who’s going to the 10/2/10 (Marx’s Birthday) Anti-Honor rally?
I am going to be at Ocean City on that date, Slow.
Sorry, I will miss the rally. Anti Honor? I can see some folks still haven’t lost their sense of humor.
Speaking of humor….I am laughing at my email.
What moron thinks I need to go pop in to greg’s blog to post when I can laugh at them from my own blog? Sorry anon, I am not the other anonymous. Those sentiments anonymous refers to are shared by many people, some not even on this blog.
If Greg manned up he would tell you that he threw me outta there over 2 years ago and has me blocked every way a person can be blocked. He won’t admit that though, I suspect. As long as you think I am over there sneaking in comments, he can fan the flames of fear of the dreaded moonhowlings.net blog.
I have enjoyed the entire cast of sins that have been attributed to Elena and me.
You pair of despicable sinners!
@TWINAD
out of town or locally? No mosquitoes. How divine. (at least at night) It is supposed to go down in the 50s.
Went to the MD renaissance festival today. The weather was perfect for walking around. It was alot of fun and a great venue for people watching.
I used to enjoy the MD Ren Fest. Was it crowded?
Wolverine, we are sinners, hear us roar. ho ho ho.
Whoops that’s women hear us roar. Oh well, I tried. 😉
The weather this weekend is awesome. I mowed the grass and went for a bike ride today. Other than the wind it was perfect … and I didn’t crash this time. Tomorrow the wife and I, along with another couple, are going to hike the Billy Goat Trail and then come home and fire up the grill … burgers and beers … and watch the NASCAR race live from Atlanta. Monday is likely to be some more biking and some more beers. I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday.
Our wonderful Labor Day block party.
Two young families started it 5-6 years ago. Most of the neighbors come out for it – some of whom I don’t see except when it snows. We usually have partakers from infancy to — It’s a cul-de-sac which we close off. Kids play frisbee, shoot basket and trike around. Almost like “it used to be”.
The festival was busy but not crowded at all. No lines for anything. It was a great day to go.
Did you get a turkey leg and cheesecake on a stick? @DB
I think I might head up to Dickey Ridge on the Skyline Drive with a few dogs and kids. Cook some hotdogs, look at ravens, shoot some pics.
Its too hot out there for firing up the fire pit tonight.
Moe, no crashing allowed.
I HAVE RETURNED! THE REJOICING MAY NOW …..(wait for it….) …….COMMENCE!
Welcome back Cargosquid!! How was the vacation?
Rejoice! rejoice!
You’ve just got to like a guy who watches NASCAR over burgers and beers.
We are at Busch Gardens tommorow. Can’t wait for a great end to the summer. I hope eveyone has a great Labor Day!
Wolverine – It depends on who the other guy is pulling for. My antipathy for Beck-Palin devotees pales in comparison to my enmity for fans of Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson and Kyle Busch.
@moon No turkey leg, but I did eat cheesecake on a stick. Yum! Today I’m taking advantage of the weather and am heading into the flower beds to weed and cut back the flowers that have gone to seed.
cheesecake on a stick is worth the drive. I don’t eat turkey legs either but they sure look good. Cheesecake on a stick would win out any day of the week though.
waiting for peapod and once they get here, off to the mountains.
Mo, you are not just whistling Dixie there about Gordon, Johnson, and Busch. Every once in awhile, I tune into the trucker radio shows where NASCAR is often a subject of discussion. HOO, boy!! Some days you woud think that, just between the pole and the checkered flag, this trio had violated every one of the Ten Commandments and then stuck a stick in the eye of Moses himself.
resounding applause!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😉
My hubby is a big nascar fan, Bill Elliott was his favorite til he defected from Ford!
BTW, Scrumdiliumpcious bars are the way to go when making smores, forget regular hershey chocolate!
The manassas city school system is facing a deluge of K students. Weems is looking for a sixth K teacher, and Baldwin needs a fifth K teacher. Current enrollment at those schools topped 30 per class, so to meet state ratios, new teachers must be hired asap. The job openings were posted 9/3. 2005 must have been quite a year for births in this area:) If anyone knows of teachers looking for jobs…
I hope that the City took the stimulus money. 30 kids is way too many kids for a K class.
Are there teaching assistants in those classes?
I never made it to the Skyline Drive. I was herding dogs and kids and it took longer than I expected. The upshot is, they all went to Silver Lake.
There were a fair number of people out there enjoying the day. A whole fleet of trucks came in to the upper picnic area and started up a huge weber grill.
People continue to fish in the upper area despite signs saying not to do it. I guess if there is no one to enforce the park rules, then people will do what they want to do.
My only grouse with Silver Lake is there are still no trash receptacles. I expect bear cans would be needed. There has to be some way to dispose of trash if the park is to remain pristine.
The other grouse would be that the middle school is invasive to what would otherwise be a tranquil setting. But that ship has sailed. I hope there will be a good tree line between the lake and the school.
Kayaking in that warm sun with that fresh breeze and that blue sky…blue heron calling overhead, fish literally flopping out of the water. Man, that’s heaven. That was my weekend.
In honor of those non-combat combat brigades still in Iraq, you know, the ones that just defended themselves in Baghdad?
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c24_1231622218
By the way, the next time you hear the above song on the radio, you WILL think about our guys in Iraq…… Great video from a Marine at http://hallsofmontezumashoresoftripoli.blogspot.com/
not sure that I understand the encrypted message in #29.
What do you mean “the ones that just defended themselves in Baghdad?”
I feel like those folks are sitting ducks.
Not encrypted. The “combat” troops have all left Iraq, according to the government. They’ve renamed the other combat brigades left in-country as some sort of support brigade.
Some of the now “non-combat” units were forced to engage in combat to defend themselves in Baghdad a few days ago.
As to the sitting duck part, not so much. 50,000 troops is ALOT of combat power. And they can still call on air power to support them.
Kudo’s to Virginia’s own Sonya Thomas of Alexandria who recently
won a chicken wing eating contest in Buffalo NY, downing 181 wings in
12 minutes. She faced off with Joey Chesnut, America’s #1 professional eater,
who came in second with 169 wings.
Drew Cerza, founder of the festival, noted “Joey is so strong. He’s got
great jaw strength, but Sonya has quick hands”.
Those of you with rapidly growing teenagers might be be able to
kill two birds with one stone at events like this — feed your ravenous kids
AND make a few $.
(The article notes Sonya is only 5 FT, 105 pounds)
Thanks for the explanation, Cargo. I feel better. I never trust governments to be sensible. I didn’t want them issued rubber bullets or something like they did to troops along the border about 5 years ago. Maybe that was just an urban legend. I hope so.
@ Big Dog
I would pit either of my kids against him if they could pick crabs and eat them. We would have a winning team.
I’ve got a three-year-old grandson who could beat them all if the dish offered was honeydew melon.
MH,
Lake Anna…perfect weekend weather! We all had a good time.

Madam Moonhowler,
Thanks for visiting me and my family today. It meant the world to me to see you there.
You honor me with your words and you are more than welcome.
Condolences to Lafayette on the loss of her 91 year old Grandma. 4 generations of women on one street. Amazing. Grandma will be missed! I know she will still peak out the front window to see what’s going on, regardless. And I will wave.
@DB
So how were the Pyrates Royale and the Rogues? If you haven’t listened to them at the White Horse Tavern, shame on you.
2 great college football games today. The University of Maryland beat Navy 17-14. Close game and very exciting.
Then VA Tech duked it out with Boise State. Boise State just scored in the last minute 10 seconds. Heartbreak in Hokieland tonight. What a shame. They had such a come-back.
1:02 left on the clock. Maybe! Stranger things have happened.
And it was not to be. Boise State 33 Va Tech 30. It was a well-played, exciting game.
I didn’t intend to stay up that late — tired and sore from hiking the Billy Goat Trail — but once Tech got its act together in the second quarter it was too good a game to stop watching.
It was a great game and the Maryland/Navy game was a cliffhanger also.
Go ACC Teams!
What is the Billy Goat Trail?
I just looked up the Billy Goat Trail. Moe, this is a no brainer….why do you think you are a Billy Goat? People are supposed to hurt from doing that!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Goat_Trail
Holy cow. What amazes me is that you found 3 other people to do this with you. Is Mrs. Moe speaking to you still?

Just got back from a Peacemakers Gathering in Black Mountian NC… 4 days of unconditional love, Vegan meals, spiritual reflection and lots of wonderful nature.
All bound up in a little Rasta music by night…
Very profound time and many new people from diffrent backgrounds losing thier “programming” and waking up into reality.
I’m becoming more convinced that America’s 2nd most important revolution is coming, but it will not won through violence.
