There is already howling over no convenient open thread. I spoil some people. 😉

I had a dream last night that Moonhowlings published its own newspaper under the company name “Moonhowlings Press.”
Too funny! Want a job?
– Was thrilled to see headline “Why We All Love Prince William” – but turns
out it was about a British royal family member. Oh well.
Things calmed down over your way, Big Dog, or are things still sizzling hot?
Yup, wrong Prince William.
Allright, enough chit-chat…..let’s get to the big stories of the day:
http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2010/09/us-names-asian-carp-czar.html
When you thought shamelessness had reached its peak, here comes the announcement that Palin and Beck are planning a “remembrance rally” in Wasilla on, get this, the 11 of September. As one would expect, it is to be “non-partisan” and “non-political’. – Remembrance RALLY!!!
It’ll be held in a shopping center. Ticket, yes TICKETS, can be bought through Ticketron (not sure abt the name). If you want to meet and greet, it’ll cost you $220, while the lower echelon sheeple will get in for a mere $ 73.50. So far no information about where the money is going.
I am slow to anger, but I have to tell you that this has me boiling. B O I L I N G !!
Using 9/11 in this way is beyond shameless.
They are charging for a remembrance for 9-11? Outrageous! Where is the link?
I read it on Firedoglake. Don’t know how to link.
Just Google “Beck and Palin Alaska”.
http://www.facebook.com/notes/sarah-palin/glenn-beck-visits-alaska-on-911/427473918434
12,000+ likes for the announcement on FB.
$200ish to meet Palin/Beck is a lil steep for something that requires a flight up to attend and little notice.

MH, would you object to me naming my boat M/S Sarah Palin ?? 😉
@Moon-howler
Ironically, I have a few too many at the moment! But thanks for the offer.
@Big Dog
LOLOLOL! Awesome.
marin, there are going to be a lot of seasick folks out there. Hurling away instead of anchors aweigh.
Re Prince William
My granddaughter lived in the same dorm as William Wales her first year at St Andrews. She read the article in the Post and was appaled. Says he was a regular guy – except for having a single dorm room and being watched by security 24/7.
Must have been fun for an 18 year old.
What a neat story, punchak.
There are two rallies. The “remembrance rally” in Wasilla is sponsored by somebody calling themselves the Conservative Patriots Group and, I believe, is free. It is billed as a non-partisan, non–political rally; and both the Repub and Dem candidates for the US Senate were invited. The Dem, however, has pulled out, claiming a “scheduling conflict.” Palin willl be there. Why not? It’s her hometown.
After the Wasilla rally, Palin, accompanied by some of her friends and supporters will motorcade to Anchorage, where Beck is holding his own rally. Palin will reportedly speak at that rally. I don’t know why anyone would be surprised by this. Beck has been holding this type of rally and entertainment deal since he was only on radio and before he got on television. Hannity does the same thing. O.K. so worry and get yout knickers in a twist. Almost all of these rallies by Hannity and Beck are held in the Heartland or Flyover Country and are usually sold out. I know that Hannity donates much of the proceeds to the troops, and I suspect Beck may do the same or something similar.
Fair game, I suppose, for criticism by those who cotton to neither Palin nor Beck. But please do this blog a favor and keep the posts reasoned and temperate. I have been going through other blogs to see the reactions there. I tell you that some of these self-proclaimed “progressives” ought to have their mouths washed out with soap. My granny would have taken a big chunk of lye soup and scrubbed right down to the tonsils.
Oops — “lye soap.”
I have no intentions of worrying about what any of these people do. I don’t think good taste can be legislated any more than morality can be. It is just opinion.
I am unaware of anyone using vile language on this blog. Most of our contributors are pretty tame. At the same time, oaths and expletitives haven’t censored. There has been very little need for clean up duty here.
We even got through an adult boutique episode fairly well without the censored police getting us. I think that is amazing.
@Moon-howler
But the hits from certain google searches are going to go up……
Wolverine
I have nothing against Beck and Palin’s “do”. I think the date is wrong.
They seem to hit the “right” dates, i.e. MLK’s speech anniversary and, now,
the anniversary of 9/11.
Happenstance?
cargo, what I am doing to make the hits go up?
I am unaware of anything going on here that is vile language or adding to enticement on to the blog. What are you all talking about?
If search words including porn, etc, are used, google will look at your blog now.
I guess they will be disappointed. We aren’t too risque.
FBI agents visit Florida church over Quran burn
By ANTONIO GONZALEZ and MITCH STACY, Associated Press Writer Antonio Gonzalez And Mitch Stacy, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 6 mins ago
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – FBI agents visited Thursday with a minister of a small Florida church that plans to burn the Quran on Sept. 11, as public safety became a paramount concern and President Barack Obama added his voice to the chorus of opposition.
Elsewhere, hundreds of angry Afghans burned an American flag and chanted “Death to the Christians” to protest the planned burning of Islam’s holiest text.
Obama urged the Rev. Terry Jones to “listen to those better angels” and call off his plan.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100909/ap_on_re_us/quran_burning
I hope this doesn’t take place. I think we could see violence this Sept 11, not just abroad but here at home too.
Hi Starry, where have you been? Missed you.
Totally agree with the Prez: Terry Jones, listen to the better angels.
Btw, NFL season starts today.
GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!!
WHO DAT!!!!!
WHO DAT!!!!
I guess life is good.
I prefer the ACC but to each his or her own. I grew up in a college town and that probably set my preferences at a young age.
I will cheer for your team though.
It’s our fear of violence that energizes and empowers radical Muslims. What will their next demand be, or else they will harm our troops?
They harm our troops every chance they get. That’s the reason there are over 4,000 dead and 20,000 or so maimed.
I would be concerned about Americans who aren’t armed in various spots around the world. There is just no point in poking a stick in a hornet’s nest.
Yeah, this whole Ground Zero Mosque/Quaran Burning thing is taking a decidedly ugly turn. We’ve got folks making thinly-veiled threats now. It should have gone relatively unnoticed, both acts are constitutionally protected and not in the best taste, and that should have been it, but now it’s getting a tad on the “fightin’ words” side.
Yup. The horse is out of the barn.
Shouldn’t it be allez saints?
SAINTS WIN 14-9!!!!
Who dat say they gonna beat dem Saints!
Yup, the horse is out of the barn and kicking the crap out of common sense. I hear that today the imam up in New York said that, if the Muslims were thwarted in their plans for the Ground Zero mosque, there would most likely be retaliatory violence from the radical jihadists over the issue. And the crazy beat goes on.
I think I’ll get our Punchak to boil a bit more. I ran across some news interviews of the guy who is actually setting up the Beck rally in Anchorage. When asked about the date, he replied that they had originally scheduled the rally for 4 September but, oh, horrors, found it coincided too much with the Alaska State Fair. So they slipped it a week; and that just happened by chance to be 9/11. Now, I don’t spend much time commenting one way or another about Beck or any other pundit; but this one had me practically rolling in the aisle.
Actually, the main characters in those farces in New York and Gainesville remind me of a horse once owned by one of Mrs. W’s relatives. The relative had a cider mill on his Kansas farm. The making of cider results in a lot of leftover apple pumice, which eventually ferments into a powerful alcoholic substance. Cider mill operators tried to bury it as soon as possible and most certainly to keep it away from the farm animals. One day, somebody there overlooked a batch. They had a horse named “Old Bill” who was probably as long in years and as swaybacked as any horse you will ever see. Well, sir, “Old Bill” found that errant pumice. Then they found “Old Bill” out in the pasture rearing and kicking like he had been reincarnated as the Lone Ranger’s “Silver.” Nobody could get near “Old Bill” until the booze finally wore off.
Looks to me like both the imam and the preacher have been dipping into the pumice of their respective religions.
Snicker. That must have been a sight to behold. I am surprised he didnt fall over and die.
If it’s full of drama, it’s probally scripted…
Just looked at the BOCS agenda, what a shock, the link for the materials regarding Hellwig Park brings up images of … wait for it… NOTHING. Thank you Scott Meyer, Jay Ellington and the rest of the Planning Office and Park Authority.
Mom,
It was duly noted on Lafayette. I can’t wait to see who has prepared that Staff Report. It looks like a full angenda this Tuesday. I hope the Supervisors enjoyed their August break. There will also be a presentation on the UVA Citizen Survey. That link to not viewable, as it was “unavailable at time of dispatch”. Which means it won’t be linked before the meeting. At least that seems to be SOP with these sorts of things. They have until noon to post the agenda. So, why not take the time and have a complete agenda with all links available.
Mom,
Don Richardson will be hosting a Town Hall at Battlefield HS at 7pm September 22. I sure wish I could make it. Unfortunately, it’s the same night as the new Governor’s School Back to School night. I wonder if any other schools in the Gainesville district will be hosting their Back to School Nights that evening. I think a Town Hall should be more carefully considered. Shoot, I would think one school board member might attend the Back to School night at GMU PWC Campus. I guess I know one SB memember that won’t be there.
Split it up and send Mr. Lafayette to the governor’s school.
Perhaps the governor’s school information wasn’t sent out to all the right sources.
How many students are involved in it?
The back to school nights are usually on the same night per level.
Hello,
This is my first time here. I just want to make a comment regarding the Park 51 Center, (or “mosque”. The Imam Feisal Rauf would never say that if the center is thwarted , there would most likely be “retaliatory violence from the radical jihadists over the issue.” Radical jihadists DON’T support Park 51, which is a project intended to promote interfaith understanding and tolerance, a mission completely at odds with anything a radical jihadist stands for. Regardless of your opinion on whether the center should be constructed at the downtown Manhattan location, it is irresponsible to attribute statements to the Imam that he didn’t make.
Welcome Boythree.
I don’t believe this blog has attributed any quotes to any Imam. Perhaps one of our contributors did.
Frankly, I believe the people of NY will decide what happens with the mosque and that being down here in Virginia, I have enough to tend to.
If someone feels that they heard the Imam say that, they might provide a link. I hate to blow it off but I am just not following it now.
M-H
How is news of the town hall meeting being distributed?
Is there a special mailing list one gets on? I have not received notice as a blog admin or as a person.
Thanks for responding, and yes, it was a comment and not the blog itself.
I saw a screening of “9500 Liberty” last night and was tremendously impressed by the women who started the ANTIbvbl blog. You are one of them? I found this blog because of my interest in your original cause. I live in a predominantly Mexican immigrant neighborhood in New York City and am deeply interested in any sites that support the humanity of non-documented people. I’m sorry that my first comment seemed challenging. I’m completely in awe of what you’ve done and continue to do.
Illegal immigration: What’s the real cost to taxpayers?
By Edward Schumacher-Matos
Thursday, September 9, 2010
The truth is that unauthorized immigrants are probably a net burden on taxpayers in the short term, but only if you consider education as a cost and not as an investment in the nation’s future, as it was seen a century ago.
Compared with native-born Americans, moreover, immigrants here illegally receive far less in welfare and other government benefits, making them a closer fit than many of our ancestors to the mythic image of the immigrant coming for opportunity and not a handout.
Any fiscal look additionally has to be placed in the context of overall economic contribution. Economists overwhelmingly agree that the unauthorized contribute to the nation’s economic growth — and thus income for most Americans, though wages for unskilled workers suffer. None of this is to say that we should allow illegal immigration. As Milton Friedman once noted, you can’t have open borders and hope to maintain generous government benefits for your citizens.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/09/AR2010090902874.html
Great article. Illegal immigrants are a net plus for the economy in the long run.
Elena and Alanna were the women you saw in the film. I worked behind the scenes on anti-bvbl. I guess I am a third leg of sorts. I had a job that I felt it best not to be putting in cameo appearances. I also thought at my age the movie star ship had sailed. 🙄
Elena will be along in a little while. I know she will welcome your kind comments.
Just when I thought that you had seen it all as far as corruption goes in Congress there is always a Democrat to show you something new and even more disturbing…
Okay, so you have got your run of the mill tax cheats, husbands cheating on their wives, yada yada… your probably always going to have that, I get it. This is what disturbs me the most, taking scholarship money that was meant for disadvantaged youth and denying them higher education so that you can instead give that money to family members.
The latest scumbag to do this, Democrat CBC member Sanford Bishop gave over $31,000 in scholorship money (meant for poor kids) to his wifes neice and daughter! WTF! This is now the second Democrat CBC member caught doing this, what low life scum. They can afford to put their kids thru college, no problem. Hell, they can afford to put a bunch of kids thru college. Yet they deny a poor kid higher education to save themselves a few bucks, DISGUSTING!
Seriously, how low can you go? Are these people going to be punished in any way?!? No. I would like to see the CBC at least kick them out of the CBC but you and I both know that will never happen.
By the way, when I say ‘you and I’ I’m just talking to you Moon and Elena since I’m still in time out.
Sanfor Bishop
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0910/41953.html
You know what the real shame is with Democrat CBC members Eddie Bernice Johnson and Sanfor Bishop is… this is only going to deter potential donations to help their cause. Which is bad news for poor minority kids who worked hard and got good grades all thru school. There is now just going to be less and less scholarship money for them to live out their dreams of getting higher education.
What is really sad is that I don’t think these are the only two that will be found doing this, I have a feeling that in the next couple of weeks more and more cases of this crime (yes, I think it’s a moral crime!) will be uncovered.
Elena, correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t you the one that said that forcing children of undocumented parents to pay full tuition instead of in-state tuition was ‘denying them higher education’? Well, what do you call this?
Because of these two, and there will probably be more, and untold number of poor, disadvantaged youth are being denied higher education.
By the way, if you have a few extra buck I think it would be nice to donate a few bucks to the CBC college scholarship program. I know I will as soon as I’m done paying off tons of my sons medical bills, I get a new one about every 6 days or so.
