Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) is not the master of understatement. In fact, most people think he is somewhat over the top. He is definitely liberal. What happens when neither candidate seems to fit the tenor of the constituents? Grayson’s opponent, Daniel Webster, was supposedly elected in primary by the far, far right. I checked out Webster’s website. He seems conservative but not insanely so. That is not to say he is or isn’t, just that his website is no indication of far right insanity.
Grayson has nicknamed his opponent Tailban Dan:
according to Huffington Post:
The ad also highlights other extreme positions held and votes cast by Webster. He introduced a bill in 1990 that would outlaw divorce, even in cases of domestic violence. (Florida House bill 1586, introduced in 1990, according to the Grayson campaign.)
“Wives, submit yourself to your own husband,” Grayson’s ad has Webster saying, a belief that’s in line with a strange group he’s a member of called the Institute for Basic Life Principles. “She should submit to me. That’s in the Bible.”
Has Grayson gone over the top again or do these ads fairly represent the beliefs of his opponent. How would we as voters verify what the beliefs of a candidate really were?
After watching 9500 Liberty last night, I recall how some of the candidates who were running during those days were vilified and lied about. Sharon Pandak, Chuck Colgan, Jeannette Rishell, seemed to get blast on a daily basis with no regard for the truth. In the last election, Paul Nichols was trashed and so was Richell’s campaign manager. The politics of self destruction were employed. Is that what is being done here? How do we sift through the distortions in any election?
@slow
Done. I erased mine too.
I owe you one!
We both needed a fresh start.
@Slow,
I went back to bed to sleep off the sinus headache from hell. You probably didn’t have that luxury.
Does this thread now have a curse on it?
I was thinking the same thing! It’s just you and me and a little mess you had to clean up!
Here’s the real quote by Webster:
That’s the original. “I have verses [to pray] for my wife. Don’t pick the ones that say, um ‘She should submit to me.’ That’s in the Bible, but pick the ones that you’re supposed to do. So instead, ‘love your wife, even as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for it’ as opposed to “wives submit to your own husbands.’”

Thought that you guys would like another source.
@Slow, I guess you and I are real trend setters 😉
Cargo, in my house, I think that ship has sailed.
So is this guy really someone who is advocating all this or is this typical Grayson who most people think is a jerk?
Cargo, now I get what you are saying….sorry.
Well that’s typical Grayson. I guess he serves a purpose….of some sort. Not sure what….
As a really bad example
and as an example of why one must vote for conservatives, of course…..
Grayson almost makes ME cross over to the dark side….
I honestly don’t think I could ever vote for him. I would just have to not go to the polls this time.
Moon….Mooooon………Come over….come oooovveeerrr…..we’re not ALL bad….join us….join us……..and see the light……..come to the light, Moon…. lleave the dark side and join us…….
and by us, I don’t mean the GOP.
oh cargooooo…leave your dark side and come to the middle….it is pleasant there. You can throw rocks at either side.
If you hadn’t noticed, we ARE throwing rocks at both sides. 🙂
Yea but I don’t have as far to throw as you do, being in the middle. 😉
Even by Grayson’s low standards, this ad was shameful.
The middle of the road are where the flattest animals can be found.
Moon,
Remember when we talked about the relative location of the “center?” I believe that the Tea Party is actually closer to the American middle….
Not with all the religious right you all have infused in there. That group drives the tea party further right.
Heck, hit submit too soon
closer to the American middle than that “center” between the Dems and the GOP.
It gets even dumber when Grayson tries to cover his behind on this one. I actually heard him on NBC trying to claim that what was in the ad was what Webster said. Makes one wonder about the process for handing out Phi Beta Kappa keys at Harvard.
That “religious right” that you are talking about is mainstream America. America is a center-right nation that is religious.
