Jon Stewart is here and preparing for the Rally. Life is good. The Daily Show is back and was great and well, homey, since it is staged out of DC. He naturally covered the firing of Juan Williams. Naturally, everyone caught hell. The best line of the week from Jon:

NPR–you just brought a totebag of David Sedaris books to a knife fight.

Stewart is referring, of course, to the hounds of hell being unleashed by Fox News onto NPR.

Jon takes a few pokes at getting around DC. The lead up to the big rally this weekend should be entertaining. Anything of interest such as great skits will be added to this post.

22 Thoughts to “Jon Stewart Hits Washington, DC”

  1. From the WaPo:

The taping, which began about 6 p.m. Monday at Sidney Harman Hall on F Street NW (to air five hours later on Comedy Central), kicks off the show’s weeklong Midterm Teapartyganza — which includes four more tapings in the District, with President Obama as a guest Wednesday, and culminates with Saturday’s Rally to Restore Fear and/or Sanity on the Mall.

I have added “restoring sanity” to my Newspeak dictionary along with “restoring civility”, since both terms have become synonymous with “expecting Americans to smile cheerfully when the Left tells them to bend over and take it.”

    1. @Emma,

After taking it for 8 years, I find that smiling made it much better.

What is it you expect to gain from this election?

  3. Local NPR affiliates are also raising hell about the Williams firing all across the country.

  4. 8 years? Congress was Democrat for 2 of those years….so that would be 6 years…..and Bush didn’t veto anything by Ted Kennedy, so he put a lot of liberal things out there. And since Obama hasn’t stopped anything enacted under Bush, are you still “taking it”?

  5. Emma

@Cargosquid It’s funny to read all of the commentary on WaPo and other forums about how Bush trashed the Constitution with warrantless wiretapping and the Patriot Act in general. And yet most of that business has been upheld by the Obama Justice Dept. So yes, they are still “taking it”–they just didn’t like WHO was giving it in the first place.

    1. Emma, that’s why its easier to smile. Everyone ‘takes’ it. I think that what follows is, some days you are the bug, other days you are the windshield.

I never cared much about wire tapping, as long as doing it saved my ass from some terrorist attack. Sigh…I have no standards.

  6. Cargo, no but I will explain why I say that in email…no….not still taking it. But it stopped under Bush.

    And yes, Kennedy was involved.

@Moon-howler Not fair to whisper behind my back 😉

  8. marinm

On the upside, DHS soon will have pictures of our naked bodies pretty soon.

What I think is amazing is that as a private citizen I can buy me one of these. 🙂

No one has anything to hide, right?

    MOST TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT, EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Emma

@marinm You should always be looking at the bright side, marinm. They could scan all Americans for those pesky pre-existing conditions and put the info on the national database. See, it all works!

  10. marinm

…………………..that database already exists for newborns. 🙁

Keep your babies off the g-man’s grid, have ’em at home away from government doctors.

  11. @Marin, that is what Fundamentalist LDS do. (and for the same reasons)

  12. @Emma, you probably already know….I have not been silent.

  13. Slowpoke Rodriguez

I heard there will be 27 million people there!

  14. Emma

@Slowpoke Rodriguez Now you’re being partisan, Slow. I heard 50 million.

  15. I have talked to 50 year olds and 20 year olds, all hell bent on going.

Are counts that important? They are only estimates using very imprecise measuring tools.

  16. PWC Taxpayer

This is the legalize mary jane rally – right? I’m in.

  17. Legalize and tax it. Might reduce the deficit.

  18. @marinm
Seeing my naked body is its own punishment for the government busybodies. Want do downsize the government work force? Make them take these pics at my house…they’ll quit so fast…..

  19. I hope that they get an aerial view. Would love to see how many show up. Should be a good show.

  20. Cargo, it is on Comedy Central starting at noon. That will be my front row seat.
