Let’s see who has been a good sassy cat this year. All you witches and warlocks gather for some comments…and remember please, warlocks, to keep it civil or the great pumpkin will squash on your porch.
Stewart has a couple of books out. I don’t believe he has any subscription fees at all. I have never seen them.
Stewart has a long track record of success as an entertainer and political satirist. He says he has a fake news show. I would like to hear Beck admit to his show being a fake news show.
The difference in Beck and Stewart is that one makes no pretense of being hype and the other no pretense of being anything but. One’s group is in on the joke and the other’s is the joke.
On Wednesday the spin will be so nauseating, the joke will again be on the American people. I’m sure any Democratic win will because illegals voted and if Repbublicans win it will be an anti-incumbent win not a party win.
Be careful DB. Maybe Mr. Stirrup could “stir up” some interest in local issues that actually materialize.
Of course he’s not the only supervisor that could use a shot of little less talk and a lot more action. Of course, any action other than giving my tax dollars to their favorite groups and frames for photos to decorate offices would be delightful. Come to think of it – doesn’t that sound like stimulus?
DB’s right about Sudley. Now, over here in WestGate we will be lit by the street lights. Just go one block away and into the darkness of Sudley. I feel certain Sudley will remain in the dark.
Yes Laf, that was a memorable and to the point moment. I need a frame for my family photos too!!!!!
Good day for ghosts, I guess. I wouldn’t spy on you, I’d pop up and give you a hug. I’m tired of people being mean and I’m tired of people not doing their job.
@marin, I am not sure the joke will be on anyone. The job will be for those who got elected to govern. The newbies will find out that it isn’t all that easy and that there are expectations.
The other joke, if there is one, will be on those thought they knew all the answers. If there is a giant upset, then those new folks in power will have everything they do scrutinized and it will be their job not to screw it up.
Over my many years I have noticed several things about the parties.
Democrats choke. They win finally and they spend so much time being Democrats that they choke when the going gets tough. (notice how many of the gutless cowards are distancing themselves from Obama.)
Republicans get full of themselves. They acquire a full head of steam and don’t have any caution at all. They are so puffed up and full of pride they immediately screw up. Home court advantage doesn’t last long. Example: Ken Cuccinelli. I hope he doesn’t think he can just sneak back in with his same nefarious crap.
No, there are no freaking street lights over in Sudley. The supervior is too busy making sure the instruments are sterile in the non-existent invisible abortion clinic over on Sudley Manor Drive.
I’ll just say this about the painting of mustaches on politicians faces to make them look like Hitler – either comdemn it for anyone that does is it, including the rally yesterday, or don’t condemn it. You can’t have it both ways! I don’t believe any excuse given for why there were signs like that yesterday is justified, no matter what directive(s) were issued for the signs. I know there would be huge furor over a conservative rally with those kinds of signs, even if exactly the same directives were given.
The net is – both sides are equally bad with these kinds of signs – for months all I heard was that only the right was guilty of this!
Sorry, I’m not buying exonerating people at yesterday’s rally who carried those signs. They don’t get a free pass in my book, neither do the folks on the right with them.
On an unrelated note:
Happy Halloween to all – I’m missing out on the local children coming to our house tonight but my wife (and dog) will be there handing out candy. Was looking to being there as last year we were still one of the few in our section of the neighborhood and no one really came around. I know this year will be different as lots of families with children moved in and they all know us and our dog very well – so I’m sure they’ll be coming around. Oh well, there’s always next year…. There were some houses decorated up really fancy when I left 2 weeks ago. A neighborhood nearby on Linton Hall Road had a really neat backlit display of tombstones and all sorts of stuff – I guess their HOA put it up. It’s right on Linton Hall Road on the right side if you are coming north between Sudley Manor Drive and Rollins Ford Road.
I don’t really care who paints a mustache on whom. I think it is disrepectful to do it to the President, regardless of who it is but I can’t lose sleep over it either.
I pointed out that there were a couple of mustaches and uniforms on Collbert. I believe its one of his characters, sort of like Charlie Chaplin. Colbert isn’t a politian. A couple of comments I saw with pictures on the internet thought pictures of Colbert were pictures of Canter. They weren’t.
I don’t recall mustached anyone being a huge issue on Moonhowlings. I did a post on some man who had lost his family in a concentration camp once. He had ripped up signs or something. I don’t remember.
Other than that…most of the comments I saw about that today went along the lines laughing about it. I think I posted a picture addressing it. So I will go on record that moonhowlings.net has no official positions on any signage seen at the rally yesterday. We were not there.
As to diversity at yesterday’s rally – this is a report from someone who says he is a moderate, and is cut/paste from another forum verbatim – take it for what it’s worth (3rd party unverified info):
“While I concur that the majority of people I saw at the rally were fellow Caucasians or Asian-Americans, there were a few Latinos in attendance, and I was standing right in front of a patriotic 30-something African-American couple. Also, the age range was much more broad than what you may have expected. There were three senior citizens in my immediate standing spot and a slew of middle-aged people. There was a man from Ohio who brought his children along. I was the only 20-something in a small radius around me. Those of us who are moderates—the bread and butter backbone of America—are tiring of extremists on BOTH ENDS of the political spectrum trying to divide our country. I have no respect for either homophobic militantly-Christian right-wing nut jobs OR aggressively-liberal psychopaths. The media keeps latching onto these special interest groups and distracts our nation away from tending to what is REALLY important.”
I guess what makes it “excellent” for Cargosquid is that the author (Charlie Martin, a writer w/ a degree in computer science) supports his or her point of view. I see the other headline on “Pajamas Media” is “Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert: Are They Pro-Islamofascist or Just Stupid?” They’re the same “news” outfit that hired Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher to be their war correspondent. Fair and balanced, just like Faux.
My eyes glazed over, Cargo. What was the bottom line?
Why is everyone who wouldn’t be caught dead at the Stewart rally so obsessed with how many people were there? The only people I know who have been obsessed with size are the poor blokes who tried to get there. Go read about Lowell’s account of getting there on Blue Virginia. See our blog roll. Holy cow.
Metro did not add extra cars. Whoever applied for the permit probably didn’t indicate a lot of people because they didn’s know how many people were coming.
Who knows. but there were lots of frustrated people.
The only numbers that count will be how many people get out the vote on Tuesday. I have already voted.
I don’t know – for awhile all I heard was complaints that conservatives were doing it to Obama. I seem to recall seeing a few mustached Bush signs at this first innauguration, saying he was a dictator and stole the election from Gore. I’d like to know where the outrage was then from liberals – as I didn’t see any outrage! Somehow, many liberals didn’t find it at all disrespectful then, as to those and other signs that were highly disrespectful of Bush.
On a separate unrelated note, my wife reported there were at least 50 trick or treaters that came by the house, and she has maybe 40 pieces of candy left out of a bag of 150. Sounds like it was a fairly busy night at my neighborhood (or at least my section of the neighborhood which is a bit separate from the rest of it).
GR, I don’t like it done to presidents. Bush, Clinton, Obama, doesn’t matter. I don’t like the Pinnochio noses either. but thats just a personal opinion.
As for the Gore/Bush election, one group or the other was going to be all pissed off. That is a given.
Unfortunately or fortunately there are a whole bunch of people out there who are moderates. They are neither conservative or liberal. Frankly, I think a lot of what yesterday’s rally was about was the moderates being tired of both sides’ CRAP–the far right and the far left who feel it is all about them.
I’ll “spill it” to end your suspense! The next season of Big Love will be the last. The producers want to move on to other things, it was their decision, not HBO’s.
I’ll “spill it” to end your suspense! The next season of Big Love will be the last. The producers want to move on to other things, it was their decision, not HBO’s.
GR-that’s NOT what I need to read on a Monday morning. What a drag. Big Love is awesome. I’ve not watched Boardwalk Empire. Entourage only has one more season too. The only HBO show I’m watching now is Eastbound and Down. Sounds like HBO doesn’t have much longer to be coming through my FIOS box.
Sorry for the bad news on a Monday morning, Lafayette! I agree with MH, Boardwalk Empire is pretty good – but I’ve only seen the first 2 or 3 shows before I left. I’m not sure which I like better between it and the Sopranos – and I’m way behind on Boardwalk anyway. The HBO shows are the only reason I get it – certainly not for the movies they show. Well, I think Boardwalk will be on for a few seasons at the rate it’s going – I’m pretty sure I read it already got the go ahead Season 2.
I’ve never watched Entourage, nor Eastbound and Down (I never heard of that one actually).
Apparently the Washington Area Metro Transit Authority is part of the liberal conspirary, too, as they are reporting that Metro ridership set a new Saturday record with more than 825,000 passenger trips. The old record was set in 1991 when there was a Saturday Desert Storm Victory celebration on the mall. (I was there for the old and new records.) There were 510,000 passenger trips recorded the day of the Beck rally. (I missed that one.) If you assume each rider made a trip in and a trip out (2 trips per person), and you divide the difference in the totals for the two days (315,000 / 2 = 157,500), and add that to the crowd estimate for the Beck rally (87,000), you get 244,500. Granted, not every Metro rider attended the rally, but the Metro numbers bolster the 215,000 CBS estimate and suggests it may be a “conservative” estimate. http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/metro-says-stewart-beat-beck-at-the-faregates-20101031
I don’t care. We got health care. Losing the Congress is a small price to pay for a big victory! And i don’t think you Repugs have the guts to repeal it. In fact, Repugs don’t have guts to do much of anthing, as they demonstrated the last time they held Congress.
I heard there were so many people at the Stewart event on Saturday, that the weight and sheer density of packed-in people altered the earth’s rotation on its axis and our days are now a second and a half shorter!
starryflights :

There it is, folks…..”I got my free stuff that someone else pays for, that’s all I care about”.
There aren’t too many times that I agree with Michael Steele and Sarah Palin, but I can’t argue with the soundness of their argument here.
RNC Chairman Michael Steele, speaking to “Good Morning America” on Monday, argued that it is cowardly to offer political criticisms without attaching your name to them. “If you are not willing to put your name with your comments, then there is not validity to it.”
Palin told Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren Sunday, “If they would man up and if they would, you know, make these claims against me then I can debate them, I can talk about it, but to me they’re making stuff up again.” She railed against unnamed sources, concluding: “I don’t think the paper that we just printed this article on, you know, it’s not worth even wrapping my King Salmon in. I’ll just ignore this crap.”
So, Morris, tell us again why you comment on a blog hosted by someone that uses a blog pseudonym? I mean, since you seem to always comment upon this subject and agree with this statement: “If you are not willing to put your name with your comments, then there is not validity to it.”
Apparently neither you nor Michael Steele, whose judgment is questionable about a lot of things, also have no regard for others that did such things, like….Ben Franklin, for one.
@Slowpoke Rodriguez
Starry may be right……yes, I said it. The GOP may not have the guts to repeal it. They won’t have the numbers even if they win the Senate to override a veto. The GOP’s lack of guts is one reason why the Tea Party has arisen.
@Cargosquid However….in their haste, the Dems did not add a “severability clause” to protect the entirety of the HCR bill. So my understanding is that if just one part of the bill is ruled unconstitutional, the entire thing is DOA.
Hey Laf – I see your Supervisor is again bringing national issues to the BOCS table. Got those street lights in Sudley yet?
Stewart has a couple of books out. I don’t believe he has any subscription fees at all. I have never seen them.

I saw Stewart in the movie The Faculty this weekend.
@Juturna Still no street lights in Sudley. We’ll grope our way around the neighborhood this evening as we trick or treat.
On Wednesday the spin will be so nauseating, the joke will again be on the American people. I’m sure any Democratic win will because illegals voted and if Repbublicans win it will be an anti-incumbent win not a party win.

Hey Juturna! Is the ghost of Mr. Crone haunting you today? 😉
Funny you would mention national issues by the BoS today. Where you spying on me on FB?
DB’s right about Sudley. Now, over here in WestGate we will be lit by the street lights. Just go one block away and into the darkness of Sudley. I feel certain Sudley will remain in the dark.
The whole country.

Good day for ghosts, I guess. I wouldn’t spy on you, I’d pop up and give you a hug. I’m tired of people being mean and I’m tired of people not doing their job.

Talk about “stir it up”…I think you are trying to stir it up with the street lights. Where’s Moon?
@marin, I am not sure the joke will be on anyone. The job will be for those who got elected to govern. The newbies will find out that it isn’t all that easy and that there are expectations.

Invisible clinic. LOL!!!
Is it located at the Sudley North Building?
Deliver us from ideologues. Putting in street lights cuts down on crime.
asking for regulations on a clinic that doesn’t exist in Prince William County is tilting at windmills and basically absurd.
Didn’t the crime leave with the illegal aliens? 🙂
@Lafayette
Yea right. no crime. there have been a few shootings haven’t there? Anyone’s house get broken in to? Cars ransacked? Any domestic violence?
Then, there is that novel idea that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. How old fashioned of me.
Here is an excellent diagnosis of crowd size. Its all scientific and stuff…..
