  1. GR, My 3G is for emergency situations. I figured for 129 I got it if I need it. I also got in on the 30 bucks unlimited which stopped June 6….so I keep it and pay…the minute I cancel it, I will need it. And if I cancel it I can never get another unlimited plan.

So I got all cranked up, iPad charged up for today, glanced at the real computer to see if it was still down, something looked different. And they are back to life. After all that….

Maybe it will go down again. I won’t cancel the cavalry until later.

can someone tell Miller that the race is over – http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/12/10/alaska-judge-rules-millers-challenge-murkowskis-senate-victory/?test=latestnews

to challenge a ballot that has Murkowski, Lisa as invalid (as opposed to Lisa Murkowski, or just Murkowski) is really trying to steal the election.

  3. Juturna

I think it’s good for the country for Clinton to do what he did. Former presidents always look better when theyre former. Fox waxes eternal about Clinton and CNN about Bush #2.
Compromise is not a process – it’s an outcome. This tax proposal is the first outcome in a while. Rejoice.

  4. Miller has to be the biggest jerk in the world. He is another one I was referring to when I said the TP got off to a real rocky start.

Juturna, maybe Clinton will run again. I was a big Hillary supporter. I wanted Bill back.

What do you think? Is this government over-reach or a good idea?

From Washington Post’s Virginia Politics Blog:

Former Rep. Davis hosts dinner for Prince William Republican
    By Jennifer Buske

Former U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R) is hosting a dinner reception Wednesday for Prince William County Supervisor Martin E. Nohe, according to the Republican Party of Virginia Web site.

The dinner for the Coles District supervisor costs $100 a plate and will be at the home of Del. Richard Anderson.

Nohe has been on the board since 2003 and served as vice chairman in 2007. There has been some chatter lately Nohe may vie for Chairman Corey A. Stewart’s seat next year along with Independent John Gray and current planning commission chair Democrat Gary C. Friedman, who both announced their plans to run earlier this year. Tito Muñoz, also known as ‘Tito the Builder’ also has said he is considering challenging Stewart in a Republican primary next year

Nohe, however, will not confirm or deny the rumors about his potential run for the chairman seat.

“The honest answer is right now we’re not in an election year yet,” he said. “I haven’t made any decisions of what I am going to do. Right now I am focused on being the best district supervisor I can be. …I’ll worry about the next step when we get closer to the election.”

We’ve also heard Davis, a moderate from Northern Virginia, is considering running against Democrat Sen. Jim Webb-if he seeks reelection. At least four other Republicans have already said they are interested in the challenge including Stewart, former senator and governor George Allen, Del. Bob Marshall (Prince William) and Bert Mizusawa, a businessman and attorney who ran against Rep.-elect Scott Rigell in Hampton Roads.

The Reliable Source has also reported Davis is a contender to be the top lobbyist at the Motion Picture Association of America.

Moon, I have Verizon FIOS also. Had a similar experience about 6 months ago and contacted the helpdesk about it. Seems they were doing some rerouting along the network switches, and had a flub – and after a couple of hours, FIOS was back up behaving.
Maybe that is what happened to you.

    1. @Raymond–you might be right. Usually they kn ow though…they were clueless on this one. 18 hours out. And then it mysteriously came back.

  8. NEW YORK – Disgraced financier Bernard Madoff’s eldest son hanged himself by a dog leash in his apartment Saturday, exactly two years after his father’s arrest in a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme that swindled thousands of investors of their life savings.

Mark Madoff, 46, was found hanging from a ceiling pipe in the living room of his SoHo loft apartment as his 2-year-old son slept in a nearby bedroom, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.

Madoff, who reported his father to authorities, has never been criminally charged in the biggest investment fraud in U.S. history and has said he and his brother Andrew never knew of their father’s crimes. A law enforcement official told the AP that Mark was not facing imminent arrest and hadn’t spoken to investigators pursuing possible charges in over a year.

But he and other Madoff relatives have remained under investigation and been named in multiple investor lawsuits accusing them of profiting from the scheme.

  9. Big Dog, doesn’t the city have a solid waste committee that makes recommendations on recycling, etc.? Ask the refuse and recycling coordinator also, she’ll give you an earful. Personally, I would like to see plastic bags banned or charge money for them. We use cloth bags at the grocery store and it’s no extra hassle. I’d also like to see the costs go up on this stuff so people will stop throwing it out on city streets or in stormwater drains: 7-11 hot dog containers, beverage cans and glass bottles, plastic water bottles, fast food bags, napkins and condiment packets, packing peanuts and ANYTHING to do with cigarettes, cigars or tobacco products.

  10. I remember when the plastic bag was being touted as the replacement for paper bags and the savior of the forests…..

And I thought, “This will not end well.”

  11. Breaking News

Battlefield win Division 6 state football title, 26-7
Bobcats defeat Hermitage to claim seventh-year school’s first state team championship

  12. That was actually fairly prophetic, Cargo. I didn’t realize you were that old.

I actually just remember plastic appearing and how there were handles and how much easier they were to carry. Paper bags are miserable to carry. I would hate giving up peapod bags. They rule!!!! they are big enough. I recycle them all the time as trash liners and anything that needs toting around.

  13. What is the story on the McRibs? I heard they went back into hyberation last Sunday. Today Mr. Howler came home with one. What gives? Someone knows the story. Let’s year it.

  14. By the way….

    Geaux Navy! Beat Army! 27-7!

    as I expected, of course…….

    @Big Dog
Wow!! I love the last line of the article and totally agree. “This proposal should die a quick death.”

BTW-I asked my mom and aunt the other day where the Creche was at Nelson Park. They looked at me like I was crazy and said they saw it at Nelson Park this week.

  19. Big Dog

    Lafayette,
The Creche is there – it went up after our last blog discussion.

In case you missed it, in today’s WaPo (12/12/2010), Metro section, front page below the fold, there is an excellent piece by Robert McCartney on the “culture of corruption” in Prince George’s County, Maryland. I can see no substantive difference from what has been going on in the two “princes” counties on each side of the Potomac, except , perhaps, for level of degree and extent. Suggest you might want to post the article.

I cast my Neighborhood Watch vote for Cindy B in #12. We have an open storm runoff behind our place that on a rainy day often looks like a floating landfill. There was a time when we had a yearly community clean-up day in our condo development. Everybody got out there — the kids; the seniors; moms and pops with families in tow;the Boy Scouts; and Girl Scouts. Afterwards, the HOA threw a large party for the participants.

About ten years or so ago, the social attitudes started to change. Fewer families. Young people not really caring all that much. Transient renters all over the place with no investment in the community. Nowadays, “clean-up day” means the HOA staff and Neighborhood Watch. It is really sad. You can see people walk right by a mess in the street or even in front of their house and not care enough to pick it up. In fact, they are often the ones who put the mess there in the first place. Got a some snack and drink trash in the car? Why, just clean it out and drop it in the parking lot. Somebody else will clean it up. I vote for a heavy litter tax on the fast food joints.

We once had one of those plastic bags get wrapped around and then melted into something underneath the car — catalytic converter maybe. The vehicle stunk like Hell for months. My advice? When you see one of those bags in the road, don’t run over it!!

  23. @Big Dog

The AG is totally irresponsible to make such a suggestion. He should be removed from office if he goes forward with that hair-brained scheme.

  24. There are about .9 guns per person in this country. Some of you are not keeping up your end.

    http://www.fortliberty.org/gun-ownership.html

There are about 650 million privately owned guns. Americans own about 270 million of them.

  25. On load? Of course it is. An unloaded gun……….is a club.

  26. well, that too. How about both loan and load?

  27. On loan? But…but…what will you do when the zombies come?

    1. @cargo

      Call for the cavalry!!!!

  28. marinm

Would be nice to get rid of the 1 handgun a month law so that we could get MH a spare pistol…or two..or three.. or four.

Maybe put up a Paypal on Moonhowlings.net to raise money for a Remington “Moonhowling Edition”.

  29. punchak

Interesting article in today’s WashPost about US guns ending up in Mexico.

  30. marinm

Punchak, that’s impossible. Mexico is a gun free zone. No guns allowed.

So … it would cost 135 billion to deport every illegal immigrant in the US, and it would pay for itself in little over a year? http://www.examiner.com/immigration-reform-in-national/dhs-confirms-cheaper-to-deport-every-illegal-alien-than-allowing-them-to-stay

    1. @Rick

We didn’t cover that story. We didn’t want to attract the wrong ‘element’ to moonhowlings.
Now what exactly would the government have to do to make that happen?

  32. Remember, one can buy many SKS rifles for the cost of an AR. They make great Christmas presents 🙂

    @Moon-howler
Why don’t we actually try to find out what would it would take to get the illegal aliens to go home or deport them.

  33. @Posting as Pinko
Shouldn’t that be “I drink zombies.” because the mental image I get from your post is just…..wrong……

  34. Federal Judge rules in favor of Virginia challenge to health care law. On to the Supremes I guess.

The “Dream Act” isn’t a general amnesty which I don’t support.

It is a rational commonsense action to enable young immigrants,
who meet strict standards, a path to American citizenship.
We need immigration – on our terms.

  36. Cargosquid :

Remember, one can buy many SKS rifles for the cost of an AR. They make great Christmas presents :)

    @Moon-howler
Why don’t we actually try to find out what would it would take to get the illegal aliens to go home or deport them.

Most people don’t want to live in a country that rounds up people and ships them out, would be my guess.

  37. Big Dog, I agree, it is just common sense. My reasoning would suggest that we have an investment in young people who have studied hard and have behaved themself.

  38. @Big Dog
The Dream Act covers “young people” up to the age of 35, is unverifiable, and will attract more illegal immigrants so that THEIR kids can jump the process.

If you want to help out the “kids” that are stuck because of the illegal acts of their parents, than write a limited bill targeted to…oh,…..how about actual children.

  39. @Moon-howler
Most people don’t want to live in a country that rounds up people and ships them out, would be my guess.

Isn’t that the point? So we just let the illegal population build? Wasn’t that the argument when there was a fraction of their population? The decisions will just get harder……

Besides, it worked for Eisenhower and nobody minded at all.

  40. I would prefer it address young college age people. No one is defending age 35 that I know. Additionally, how many people do you really thing would want to do this? Most people at age 35 want and need to be wage earners.

And yes, people did mind under Eisenhower. Probably the same people who minded the plight of the agricultural migrants and segregation, but I am just guessing at that one.

It would be particularly effective if the gov used trains. Imagine the imagry.

  41. We have a good time here, arguing the issues of the day. We have discussed the pros and cons of so many things, in such detail, that I think that we sometimes lose sight of certain things.

This is why this country will never be defeated if we allow ourselves to actually win the war. We can only lose it.

Semper Fi. I think I’m done “arguing” for the day.

Section 1501 is dead. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!!!!!!! We still have some freedom and liberty in this great country of ours..

  43. Rick Bentley

“The decisions will just get harder……”

That’s been the belief of the pro-Amnesty planners all along. But actually as more and more Americans see for themselves whatr’s going on, and reflect on the cost of trying to maintain our minimum standards of living for other nations’ unending flows of refugees, the decision actually gets easier for more and more of us. Arizona has made their mind up to pull up the welcome mat; Texas will be next and Virginia within a few years I would think.

Hope all of you have your aluminum pole up for Festivus!

Recent recognition of the event has been mixed.
The growth of blogs, and other net venues, has seen
a massive increase of “the airing of grievances”, but, alas,
“feats of strength” is another story.
