That last thread was getting a little long. Time for a new one. Talk on. No snow on the horizon yet. Temperatures only in the 30’s during the day on Wednesday.

the same people that are now against the mandate, were once for it (http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/03/23/1544321/individual-health-insurance-mandate.html) such as McCain and Hatch.
The mandate does two things – gets one into the system, so that pre-existing condition arguments are moot. And 2, get the pool to include young people (< 35) who consider themselves healthy and not in need of insurance – but when they get older (which they hope they will), they use a greater amount of healthcare. In fact, the health insurance industry *wants* the mandate, as it increases the risk pool, lowering the per person cost.
I do not know of another way to eliminate the pe restriction without the mandate (while still being fair to private insurers).
All this bucking the mandate is, is another way to throw rocks at something that isn’t Republican. Where were the great movers and shakers and what were they doing the past 10 years?
Anyone who doesn’t think health care needs reforming has never run into a problem like losing a job, having a catastrophic illness, had a condition that kept them from being picked up by health coverage, or simply not have the money to pay for health insurance. Out of pocket starts at around $500 per person a month. That is on the conservative side.
I am certainly not saying that I think the entire package is great, but we have to start somewhere. The stupidity of all this, and yes, I do mean stupidity, is that your own premiums are going to keep going up and up because you are paying for everyone else anyway. Who do you think is doing it?
Baby, it’s cold out there.
23 degrees right now – and windy.l
Happy not to be in Indiana or thereabouts tonight.
We may have to have a bronze statue of Cuccinelli in Richmond!
The booger is it wouldn’t cost nearly that much to deport all illegals. Take away all incentives to stay, and they’ll leave on their own! My offer still stands to provide a nice savory lollipop to any illegal to enjoy on their trip home.
The City of Manassas has lost its paid Fire Chief – another victim of the volunteers’ refusal to cooperate and the City Council’s insistence on micro-managing. I wonder what the proposed study will show? Just how closely monitored are the fire department’s volunteers? Are the contracts competitively bid? Are there always enough volunteers to man the station and who verifies that there are? Will the City be covered on Christmas day and Super Bowl Sunday? The Council has spent too much time focusing on crotchless panties and not enough on crises.
@Slow,
Make sure you cover all the parts on that statue. We wouldnt want cooch’s chest to show.
And it isn’t over yet….not even close.
There are people who wouldn’t leave because they don’t want to go home to their violent communities. How do you take away the incentive of an American way of life? There are some things you can’t take away from people.
Censored, I think you hit the nail on the head. That fire in Sumner Lake should have been the big wake up call.
I don’t know the politics of this situation. Would someone please enlighten me?
19 degrees right now with a killer windchill factor. I wimped out of hiking…again.
M-h, the Sumner Lake fire shows just how dependent the City is on mutual aid from the county (and perhaps Manassas Park?). Do the volunteers cooperate with the other jurisdictions? Do they buy their equipment with compatibility in mind?
The City is facing the same issues that PWC faced a decade or two ago. Do they have enough volunteers to man the equipment 24/7? Is there enough financial oversight? Are the volunteers trained well enough (meet the minimum physical standards)? Do they buy the proper equipment/apparatus for the jurisdiction? There are a lot of people who generously give of their time and expertise. They deserve to have the best protection and equipment. They also need to operate as a unified team in order for that to happen.
Chairman Corey has yet another challenger!! Didn’t catch the whole three minutes unfortunately, but I did catch the last couple of minutes and listepart about filing to challenge Corey in 2011.
“And Happy Holidays to you too”
oops…too busy laughing to pay good attention to my post.
but I did catch the last couple of minutes and the part about filing to challenge Corey in 2011.
There is a post regarding the challenge by Mr. Weir.

Looks like Democrats and the constant class warfare rhetoric the spew every day have almost cost the lives of several school board members in FL. I thought tea party people were the violent ones?
“Clay Duke, the man who opened fire on a Florida school board Tuesday, posted a “last testament” on Facebook decrying the wealthy and linking to a slew of progressive sites including theprogressivemind.info and MediaMatters.org.”
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/fl-school-board-shooter-posted-suicide-note-railing-against-the-rich-linking-to-media-matters/
Guess who is a big fan of Media Matters… Clay Duke, the guy that shot up the school board meeting down in FL. This is what he put on his facebook page before going to the meeting. Apparently he was really upset with the rich, gee, I wonder who keeps bashing the right in out current class warfare environment?

Its happening AGAIN! I’m reading news on the blogs and Beck starts talking about the very thing I’m reading…….
http://projects.nytimes.com/census/2010/explorer?hp
@Big Dog
Very, very cool
@Cargosquid
I think there is a medication to make that stop, Cargo. Yes, you should be worried.
It could also mean that Beck’s worker bees scrounge the blog for issues to discuss. That might explain some of the nut wing talk you hear on the Beck show.
Actually, this was actual news about that school board shooting.
Of course, that shooting report HAS to be false. Schools are gun free zones. And the alleged shooter was a felon, who, of course, can’t get guns. And how he got it into the school is a mystery since it was clearly posted.
As a gunblogger said:” I’m just glad everyone there obeyed the law and didn’t bring in their own firearm. They may have defended their own lives and we cannot have that, especially in gun free zones. It’s a good thing the No Guns signs prevented anyone else from being armed or the shooter could have gotten hurt a lot sooner.”
However the woman that hit the felon with her purse has huge cajones. And I mean that in the BEST possible way…..
She’s going to be thanking God forever. Apparently the shooter pointed the gun at her, at arm’s, well, purse length, and only said, “You stupid b!tch!”
Just glad that the dude couldn’t shoot straight.
@ Cargo… did you see that the school board shooter was really into class warfare (wonder where he got that from) and a big Media Matters fan:
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/fl-school-board-shooter-posted-suicide-note-railing-against-the-rich-linking-to-media-matters/
Wonder how long it will be before MSNBC points out that he was a progressive?
Anytime now…..1….2…..3….(chirp, chirp)
There has always been a fine line between being stupid and displaying sack. I’m going to differ with you on this one just a bit. That lady was just plain stupid. If she was big enough to be a pimple on bad guy’s behind, that’s maybe brave. When you’re THAT much smaller than what you’re attacking, that’s kind of dumb. In her defense, I can’t really blame someone in her situation for not thinking straight. It’s easy for me to watch the video and judge. I think this is a teachable moment. Folks, it doesn’t happen like in the movies. You actually have to aim the thing. Or perhaps it was a Taurus 🙂 Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the guy was spouting idiocy about the rich oppressing the little guy. Another left-wing nut-job (explains why he can’t hit something 3 feet away). Anyone heard from StarryFlights lately? or was he in Florida yesterday?
@Cargosquid
I expect that the school board chambers were not near a school and therefore not in a gun free zone.
I would prefer to blame the shooter.
@Hello, why would you listen to the rantings of some crazy person who shoots up a school board meeting? Do you suppose George Soros whispered in his ear and told him to kill all school board members? yea! That’s the ticket! Conspiracy!
Moon, this guy was a far left progressive nut case. My point is that if this dude was a tea party guy it would be on MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, Moonhowlings.net…. etc. Evidence comes out that this guy links several progressive sites on his facebook page including a favorite among progressives, Media Matters, and I’m just sitting back wondering how long it will take for that to show up in ‘mainstream media’? Ill be you a dollar that you won’t see any of that mentioned today/tonight/tomorrow by a single person on MSNBC. Why?
You know if it was the other way around it would be the lead story of the day on every ‘news’ channel including front page of most ‘news’ papers. You know, to prove that DHS report was spot on about right wing hate/violence and all…
When abortionist Tiller got killed, how many times did you hear from the left that right wing commentators should be held accountable? Well, in this case with all of the class warfare talk from the left will we hear the same?
@Hello, why thank you for putting us up there with the big boys. I am flattered.
As for the killing of Dr. Tiller–I will stand by anti-abortion rhetoric being a cause of sending nuts off the deep end.
Now tell me, Hello, why are you so infatuated with the concept of left and right? It never occurred to me to determine if the shooter was a rightist or a leftist. I figured someone had pissed him off and he went off the deep end. You really have a persecution complex about political ideology.
I also haven’t heard anyone but Glenn Beck talk about class warfare. And he is an easy fix. I have an off button on my TV. I am not consumed over that idea either.
Shooter Duke had guns, was anti gov. and was bitching about taxes….yup, that makes him a liberal. I see your point. Left as they come.
What difference does it make? He is off his rocker.
I took a look at the Huffington Post to see what they reported about the incident and there are a few references to Clay Duke talking about his wife being fired and taxes:
“Video of Tuesday’s meeting showed Duke, 56, complaining about taxes and his wife being fired before shooting at close range as the superintendent begged, “Please don’t.””
I was even surprised to see that the article mentioned his facebook page, however, no mention of any of the progressive links on his page… odd. Not even a shout out to Soros funded media matters, guess the Soros funded Huffington Post didn’t want any kind of association with the whole event.
@Hello, serious question here ….. why are you so obsessed with someone’s politics? Do you think it is dirty to be liberal? Progressive? Moderate? Centrist?
Why the obssession with labels? Let’s talk about people being unstable. Perhaps the reason you haven’t read anything about Shooter Duke’s secret life as a liberal is because it simply is irrelevant. He is an unstable man. He had a history of violence and socially unacceptable behaviors. He was no stranger to arrest.
You really are digging and you aren’t looking at the big picture.
No one is talking about the Huffington Post other than you. Right now I am listening to an interview with Ginger Littleton in the Washington Post.
Just straight ‘news’ from the Huffington Post huh?
Uh, why am I obsessed with someone’s politics? To tell you the truth I think this guy was more of an evil progressive than anything else. Progressive can be either R’s or D’s. I happen to think that their all D’s 🙂
On to a new topic… Cuba just launched their own version wikipedia and have a fancy new pic/icon for it, can anyone guess what it resembles?
http://hotair.com/archives/2010/12/15/cuba-launches-its-own-version-of-wikipedia/
@Moon-howler
While I acknowledge the man’s facebook postings may paint the guy in one corner of the political spectrum I think we need to not focus on that. The guy was crazy. He’s nuts. Progressives or Conservatives don’t have a lock on wingnuts – they just exist.
So, I hope this doesn’t go down the line of he was a progressive so he’s obviously nuts.
I do think highly of the School Board for not wanting to over react and turn the meeting hall into a Ft. Knox.
I do think that this case does illustrate another real world reason as to why it’s smart to be armed even in ‘safe’ places. I’m glad the ‘good guys’ didn’t get hurt today and feel bad for the officer who was distraught for having to discharge his firearm to defend life.
My point is he can stand two feet in front of something, empty half a magazine of ammo into it, and still not hit it. THAT’s a liberal!
I will say, though, when it really mattered, and the gun was pointed at himself, he didn’t miss. He came though on that one!
