Bob Weir, council member for the Town of Haymarket, publically declared his candidacy for Chairman of the BOCS during citizens’ time today. Most people looked rather surprised. Mr. Weir spoke of his outrage over lack of transparency, lack of open government, and the impact and undue influence of special interests and his comments were directed at the Chairman, Corey Stewart. He also spoke of his disappointment in leadership and overall lack of knowledge of the issues.
Bob Weir told the Board that there were 4 boxes to use in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo. Mr. Weir will challenge as a Republican. Corey Stewart responded with “And Happy Holidays to you, too.”
Mr. Weir said “Merry Christmas”. That might get some votes.
Merry Christmas, Juturna! Do I get your vote? 😉
I busted out laughing when I heard “And Happy Holidays to you too”.
I guess Corey was showing his political correctness? Only he can respond. Remember when he wouldn’t ‘allow’ Mrs. Caddigan to respond?
She told him to tell his friend to stop doing that. bwaaaaa haahahahah
I’m loving it! There’s a free-for-all going on in Prince William County. And they are coming from all directions.
So far, on the Democratic side there’s Gary Friedman with rumors of another possible Democratic challenger. Then on the Republican side, we have Bob Weir declaring and Tito Munoz suggesting interest in throwing his sombrero into the ring. And, in terms of Independents, we have John Gray. Have I missed anyone?
First off, it’s a complete rumor but… I have heard Corey’s wife (Maria Stewart) thinks she can run PWC better than Corey and is considering challenging him for his Chairman-at-Large seat.
Always, Laf,always!
Bet if the Police Chief retired and ran he’d win. He showed up sometime after Weir with some sort of briefing and boy was he good.
Hi Juturna!
I caught some of Chief Deane but not all. I will catch the it all tomorrow night on the repeat. I was glad to see Chief Deane be the first one to present some of the departments needs to the BoS in the upcoming budget cycle. First responders should be first to get what they need. I was glad to hear Wally ask the question about the amount of time the officers have tied up in court. I think some serious progress could be made here.
Alanna,
LOL-Tito throwing his sombrero into the ring. There was some “rumor” of possibly Marty jumping into the race too. This is going to be interesting to say the least. I hope this is a lesson to ALL of the BoS that there are those that are willing to take them on. We can NOT continue to have sitting Supervisors running unchallenged. The more willing participants the better I say. This much excitement and it’s not even the end of the year.
Yes, Chief was great. He also pointed out how long it takes to train someone and therefore the importance of retention of employees.
After 3 years without a raise, PWC needs to be thinking about that. How long will people go without a raise?
being so close to the feds continues to drain law enforcement agencies in the area.
I suppose even with a 2 year federal freeze, the Dept of Transportation, FBI, DHS, and other places police go act like a magnet.
This election is going to be a riot! Look at all the candidates and potential candidates from every side running for Chair. Is that telling or what??
Hard hat, Laf, hard hat!
Dan Roem of the Gainesville Times has an interesting article on this thread’s topic.

Did anyone else hear Corey before the vote on the land sale at Innovation?
“No Mr. Wier? I thought he wanted to talk about this.”
@Laf, no but I was probably in a boredom induced trance by then.
It appears that Corey is personalizing this challenge.
Bob Weir versus Corey Stewart or Marty Nohe? A guy who actually stands up to the developers rather than take their money and then go to bed with them? What’s the address to send money to Bob’s campaign? I’m a PWC Republican who will attend the convention and vote for Bob!
NTK,
I guess it’s safe to say you aren’t “one of the good guys” like Brookfield. 🙂
What are Indpendents to do when conventions are held by the parties and not a primary where Independents can have a vote?
I remember back in 2006 when Corey was helping fight Brookfield Homes and the Brentswood development. He was a hero to many people then. Lately, he describes Brookfield Homes as “one of the good guys.”
I can’t think of Corey anymore without the Darth Vader theme music running through my head. I’ve never seen a political Anakin to Darth Varth transformation any more stark than that of Corey Stewart. I guess that makes Mike Lubeley Palpatine. Is Bob Weir Luke Skywalker?
Marty never signed the pledge to protect the rural crescent. Therefore he broke no promises. He might not be doing what you want him to do but he isn’t being a chameleon.
When a person does a 180 from their original campaign promise, is it a make over?
Perhaps he is a chameleon. Remember Red, Gold and Green?

@Moon-howler
Moon, I never said Marty is a chameleon. He did not sign the Rural Crescent pledge, just like Wally. Marty is, nonetheless, a developer shill.
NTK and I never said you did say that. I didn’t even mean to imply you said it.
Someone did ask the question who was worse…Marty for not signing or Corey for signing and breaking his word. I actually don’t remember who it was…nor do I care. I participate in many conversations at once. I don’t always respond in a timely manner.
@Moon-howler
No offense taken. I have a higher regard for Marty than for Corey beause Marty at least did not tell me he supported sensible land use and sign the pledge, then stab me in the back when developers offered sacks full of money. I disagree with Marty strongly on most development and land use issues, but Marty at least has been honest about where he stands on them.
I agree with you, NTK. I don’t remember who even posed that question, just that someone had.
It’s one thing if you know where a person stands in the first place.
I am glad I live in Manassas (City Of), for a multitude of reasons.
@Steve Thomas, Are you suggesting that the grass isn’t always greener?
