Corey exploits the dead for political purposes.  For shame.   I don’t hear Corey Stewart talking about drunk drivers killing a grandmother and her grandchild or an habitual drug offender veering across a median strip to cause an inferno that  killed 2 people and seriously  injured a third. I suppose those deaths just don’t have the same ring as an ‘illegal immigrant.’

I thought that the Attorney General said that this was BAD legislation. Why is Corey still pushing it? If the Cooch says its bad, then it must stink. Which delegate or state senator is going to go charging in come January and insist on passing bad legislation?

.’UPDATE:  A long time resident of Prince William County sent me a suggested scenario just for those who want to take a trip  back in time to days of old…just for a moment.  Come gather round to see how Corey became Corey, the Red-nosed Exploitative Reindeer

Corey the Red-Nosed Exploitative Reindeer

I’m sure when Greg Letiecq knocked on the door with the camera Corey said, “Oh no, do I have to make this video today? It’s Christmas!” And Greg said, “Corey, if you don’t do my evil bidding, I will reveal all of your secrets from 2007 and your political career will be over, bwhaahahahahaaa!”

Corey then said, “But no one in Virginia supports this law, not even the Republicans, at least not the respectable ones. And your script, it’s really going to make me look like an ass. Trying to convince the whole state to pass a law that I couldn’t stop my own board from repealing? You know they’re going to rip me to shreds when they find out how much it cost.”

Greg: “We’ll deny it, and find a polarizing way to distract them.”

Corey: “What if they find out the real crime statistics?”

Greg: “We’ll accuse anyone who looks up the real statistics of being an illegal alien apologist, a traitor, and a socialist. Then I’ll get my three lady friends to write them some angry emails. They’ll back down.”

Corey: “Alright, come in, we’ll shoot it in my office. But I’m not doing it over and over again. Last time was so exhausting.”

Greg: “Fine, fine, we’ll do it in one take.”

Corey: “Can we cut this part where I try to exploit a tragic accident and the Christmas holiday? I think that’s really in poor taste.”

Greg: “Nope. That’s the best part. Trust me, if you get people riled up enough, you can turn them against those losers George Allen and Ken Cuccinelli. They’re not tough like you are. They’re soft and weak. You are the only Republican who is man enough to walk in Sharon Angel and Jan Brewer’s non-immigrant looking shoes!”

Corey: “Thanks Greg, that’s kind of you.”

Greg: “Now sit here in front of this painting. I’ll frame it so the guy’s head is chopped off so it subtly reminds people of headless bodies.”

Corey: “Good idea.”

Disclaimer: The above is satire. I have no idea who really made the video.

22 Thoughts to “Should a Costly, Defunct, Ineffective Policy from Prince William County be statewide?”

  1. I don’t even have to watch it to say that if the pols think that it will get them elected, they will vote for it. I mean, at a national level, they don’t even read the bills and know what they’re passing…..

  2. Need to Know

Greg has become very good at producing videos. This one is amateurish, Corey just sitting there with the camera turned on, and I don’t we can pin the blame on Greg.

I find two things interesting here. First, Corey identifies himself as the head of the Virginia Rule of Law PAC rather than PWC BOCS Chair. PWC citizens and taxpayers are obviously just an afterthought and steppingstone to other things for him now, if anyone didn’t already know that.

Second, he doesn’t speak well even in a controlled setting such as this. He lots of umms, hesitations, little forcefulness in his voice, lack of coherency in what he’s saying. In a live setting such as a debate with George Allen, Jim Webb, etc. he would be slaughtered.

  3. LOLOLOLOL! Oh, MH. You’re good. You really are. I didn’t even have to see the video to imagine what our beloved chair says.

Still laughing at the headless body thing…

  4. Censored bybvbl

Good one! The headless guy bothered me too. That and the prissy lamp and pink background.

Greg is no Eric Byler much as he tries. His videos have improved in that the music isn’t quite as overbearing, but schmaltz still reigns. I suppose this is good for political ads and small town celebrations (which could have been recorded much more creatively).

We’re probably assuming Greg did this because he’s been quick to capitalize on local tragedies for political gain.

Whoever varuleoflaw is they “like” a video with nudity in it
    http://www.youtube.com/user/varuleoflaw

  6. @NTK, I agree. Greg in all probability had nothing to do this. Thus, the strong disclaimer.

I agree, his work is better than this.

As a matter of fact, everyone should treat themselves to the Manassas Christmas tree lighting video on bvbl. I am assuming Greg did that and he did a nice job. The music is fantastic. Those two men singing sound like angels. It doesn’t hurt that O Holy Night is my very favorite Christmas song. It really shows off the City of Manassas for the good place that it is.

  7. Big Dog

    http://pewhispanic.org/states/?stateid=VA

Corey’s idea doesn’t have “legs”, in part, because immigration isn’t
as big an issue across Virginia as it is here. Latino growth has been
high in spots but not everywhere.
Latino population % of population in 2008.

    Virginia-7%

    Manassas Park – 30%
    Manassas City – 29%
    Prince William – 19%

  8. Big Dog

Agree M-H, the Manassas Christmas lighting was a joyous bright moment in what
has been a challenging year. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped
it happen and to Greg for filming it.

The UVA report cautions using what happened in PWC in any other jurisdiction, and lists the reasons why not.

HMI’s been doing a great job, both with video and PR. The Chain Saw Chix segment with Holly Morris on Fox TV brought tons of people to the Fall Jubilee. They’ve been doing excellent build-up to the Sesquicentennial, with the inaugural event of 2011, the Manassas Blue and Gray Ball, just four weeks away. The point is, they hire/partner with professionals like Asha Bruot Public Relations and JTC Media Productions.

If you liked the Tree Lighting video, get a copy of the Christmas Parade video from HMI for 10 bucks. The quality is fantastic. Shows the preparations and everything. Lots of pictures of people and pets enjoying the festivities, too. I saw Big Dog in it!

  10. Juturna

This is his Merry Christmas message? Right from the Manger, I guess….. So I’ve been away come back to this video and Bob Marshall’s egotistical/paranoid message and this….. This will really help with any desparately needed economic development programs…..

  11. Big Dog

Cindy B, you were the Queen of the 2010 Greater Manassas Christmas Parade
and a very fine one. (I’m always amazed by the fantastic volunteers who
come together each year to enable our community to enjoy great events like
the Parade and the Christmas Tree Lighting/ Santa Claus Arrival).

  12. Cindy is going to be queen until this time next year. @Big Dog

Juturna, nothing says Merry Christmas like alluding to the dead. Did you see the Washington nativity thread? you might be able to say the same thing about PWC. Plenty of room for asses in the stable.

  13. Big Dog

Right you are M-H, Cindy is the reigning Queen until December 2011!

    1. Long live Queen Cindy!!!!!

      [trumpets blaring]

  14. Ken Anderson

    Juturna :
This is his Merry Christmas message?

    Moon-howler :
Nothing says Merry Christmas like alluding to the dead.

    LOL!

  15. Elena

Agree with the comments here, especially with NTK and Corey’s very immature video style.

It was liking watching a freshman in high school trying to win class president. I kept waiting to hear, ” I promise to make sure all students will get free icecream at lunch if you vote for me”

  16. Cindy B

I was thinking varuleoflaw is a teenager, too. Something’s not right.

Believe me, my 17 seconds of parade fame are over. I was back picking up KFC fast food trash, broken beer bottles and frozen dog poop in my neighborhood this morning. I did get a nice new warm winter coat early from Santa, though!

  17. I think Juturna is saying something very signficant and useful down the line. We have “conservatives” spending money we do not have on outcomes they cannot control. No one wants to hear this on some other blogs that shall go unnamed because the reality of the waste conflicts with the mission.

When the general population of PW CO realizes what some of these ‘leaders’ have done to our local economy, just to win a elections, they will likely run them out of town.

I posted the above comment on antibvbl when it first opened. I stand by that statement today as much as I did in February 2008. I never saw what Juturna said though. Sorry Juturna. I rarely fish through old archives.

  18. Ken Anderson

    @Moon-howler
Let’s face facts, the struggle that conservatives are going through right now is not “state rights vs. federalism” or deficit spending vs. budget slashing, or whether or not taxation is good or bad. It’s about the purpose of government and the policies that are implemented with those tax dollars. That’s what the whole debacle with Corey Stewart’s immigration crusade showed me. It was so clearly a wrong turn into economy-busting, tax-hiking, legally indefensible, race betterment experiment.

That so-called conservatives supported it proved to me that people can be radical tax and spenders if they think the government is doing something that will better their lives. Unfortunately, schools, senior day car, roads, hospitals, first responders and programs to make life better for everyone are less important to them than drastic measures to sort out just who is included in the everyone (and in what statistical proportion) even if that makes the “quality of life” (remember that one?) go down while crime goes up.

  19. Juturna

I am not for states taking on federal responsibiliities any more than I am for localities taking on state responsibilities. That ‘s why we have the tax structure we have – each has a specific mission and objectives. I really don’t like how my local taxes are being spent – and I don’t mean on county employees or local programs. Immigration and transportation are not local responsibilities – local problems but not local responsibilities. Corey Stewart cannot control the outcome of either within his piddly little fiefdom – simply put he’s wasting my money. He can build/improve public safety, libraries, parks all are within his control. He’s ignoring his ‘family’ and trying to impress the neighbors.

The county has cut $140k from it’s spending. Why wasn’t that re-directed to public safety – how much longer can we survive on a volunteer fire system, why are we cutting police officers?? Mr Stewart says the state is cutting police, but if you read the fine print it says “locally elected reductions” which means Mr. Stewart and his gang can take public safety cuts from wherever they like – how about transportation. So why does he blame the state???

I don’t believe anything he or most of them say anymore and I don’t like how they is spending my money. PWC is soo short of park space now parents are buying land to provide fields for their kids. People with money won’t stay here much longer. In fact, they and the illegal aliens are leaving.

  20. Ken Anderson

You hit the reindeer on the nose, Juturna.

  21. IVAN

You almost have to feel sorry for the guy.
