Lafayette, my area is an oddity for PWC (ha ha – in more ways than one) in that it’s experienced very little change at all according to that data. I guess most of the new houses off Dumfries Rd. are now over ten years old.
I find this info about Woodbridge hard to believe.
Prince William’s western suburbs experienced dizzying growth over the past decade, with Linton Hall increasing by 28,000 residents and Gainesville by 7,200. On the opposite end of the county, Woodbridge lost 87 percent of its population, according to the data.
Thanks for the info Cindy. Manassas City has experienced a massive
and often disruptive demographic change in the last decade.
Sadly, instead of helping us manage, our federal and state governments
have gone out of their way to kick us in the teeth.
1)Allowed a masive influx of illegal aliens.
2)Did nothing except violently attack local governments who attempted to mitigate
the problem the feds themselves allowed.
3)Then the GA criminals in Richmond decide to pile on by killing major local
revenue sources.
4) Communities are stuck with (A)a huge new and costly cohort it didn’t ask for
and couldn’t stop(B) reduced financial means to cope with the result.
Interesting article by David Frum (“Beck: It Pays to be Crazy”) on the conflicting interests of conservative politicians and conservative media types. http://www.frumforum.com/beck-it-pays-to-be-crazy
As for the PWC demographics, that’s not the impression one gets from the Historic Manassas website video “A Day in Old Town Manassas,” which suggests the town motto should be “The Maine of Northern Virginia.” The video makes Manassas look whiter that Wonder Bread.
Moon-howler :Awww it keeps an old art form alive. Where else are Roman numerals used except in outlining and for the Super Bowl?
Art form?
Well, there’re are these people, male, who think they’re so great that they name their issue after themselves. I actually know a man whose name is Joe Smith IV, I kid you not!
And we’ve got a slew of popes with els, dees, exes and ems tacked on to their names. They can have that stuff, but for something SO American / NO, NO, NO!
Steelers, forced into dime package will have to keep best players in coverage as opposed to disrupting the run box. And GB has three pro-bowl quality receivers.
The first three Packer possessions will be the “tell.” if they air it out and score game over.
Aaron Rodgers will light up weak Steeler cornerbacks for 35+ points.
Big Ben will be sacked no less than three times by Clay Matthews.
Is it a Prince William County eye surgeon who feels “tremendously blessed to be able to serve the Lord” while being profiled in the Southern Poverty Law Center publication entitled “The Year in Hate,” or am I confusing two people with similar last names?
I saw this on Instapundit: DARRIN MOORE ON FACEBOOK: “If Obama thinks a leader should step down simply because large crowds of people protest in the streets of the capitol for a week or so, I’ve got an idea.”
Having the CEO of Duke Energy announce that the Deomcratic National Convention will be in Charlotte and saying individuals can only donate $100k doesn’t send a message that the administration is in step with average Americans. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0211/48891.html

Packers run 4 and 5 wide sets all night.

Exactly right, CTE! The Pack HAS to hit on all cylinders on the quick passes to stifle the Steelers blitzing – and they WILL blitz. Watch the Packer pass protection during those first three possessions as well.

Sorry – I screwed this up the first time.
CTE, you are spot on! I look to see if the Packers can hit the quick passes as they spread out the Steeler’s D. Also, I look to see if the Packer O-Line can stop the almost certain blitzing.
On another topic, our boy at BVBL deleted a post of mine this morning regarding the chest pounding he was doing about beating some obscure lawsuit. I merely stated the suit may have been dropped, not because of the “obvious” righteousness of his defense, but possible because the plaintiff simply lost interest. I naively underestimated his sensitivity to criticism, for which I feel bad.
I heard that the shiny “campaign booklet” that came to our houses cost $40,000. That’s $10,000 more than the infamous invitations. UFB!! What a pack of thieves!
Maybe I’m the only one who didn’t know this at the time, but someone mentioned earlier this week that the City paid $75,000 to retain another lawyer for the KK’s nonsense. Is that correct? Could they not have paved my long-neglected street with that money?
Yes, Emma, I think it was about $70k. It wasn’t exactly over KK’s but that is what started the ball rolling. A study was done and verbage was supplied to write ordinances that couldn’t be challenged. Maybe Andy will come along and describe it. My memory of what happened is a bit sketchy.
It’s nice to see my hometown, Shelby, NC, mentioned in USA Today in an article entitled “Michelle Obama, Trapped in the Barbecue Wars.” Shelby is home to the 2 best barbecue restaurants in the world — Alston Bridges Barbecue and Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge. The real barbecue war is between fans of Alston’s and Red’s over which one is better. If you’re ever down in that area it is well worth a side trip to Shelby for bbq.
The Senate is considering Senator Barker’s SB1031. The final vote should be on Tuesday. This bill allows local school boards to retain unspend funds at year’s end rather than having the funds revert to the local government. This policy change will afford education a higher priority in the local budget process. Please click on “Take Action!” to send a message to your senator urging support of SB1031.
It sounds like this law might just encourage responsible spending rather than the rush to ‘use it or lose it.’
If you want to support KK’s Temptations, here’s three upcoming events Kim & Kristina Skokan are participating in:
The WINGS (Women in God’s Spirit) luncheon ($25 per person) at Nora’s Restaurant on Lee Hwy in Gainesville on Thurs, Feb 10 from 11:30 to 1:30, collecting baby food & formula for the food banks of PWC.
Singles night at the Philadelphia Tavern on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14 from 8 to 11 p.m. (speed dating, cupid games & prizes).
Kim has also registered a “KK’s Pink Divas” Team for Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk for the Cure Sept. 23-25. If you want to be on her team, she’s leading local walks 3 times a month to get in shape for the 60 miler. Register as part of her team or donate to help the team reach their fundraising goal for breast cancer research at http://www.the3day.org.

Man, take me back. My aunt & uncle lived in Shelby when I was growing up in the ’60s & we went to one of them (I’m sorry but I do not remember which). It had the BEST sweet tea! Do you remember the fish camps in that region? Mmmmmmm – hush puppies!
Disgusted — There were a couple of fish camps when I was growing up there (I left in 1976 to go to college and never really went back). The Shelby Fish Camp is still open and doing well. Back in the day we didn’t know deep fried was bad for you, but it sure was good. You’re right about the sweet tea and hush puppies. Now I’m hungry.
Sounds tasty, Moe. But I will opine that Michelle Obama is only in a skirmish there in Shelby. If she wants to make the “Bigs”, she had better go to Kansas City. I would swear that almost every backyard in the KC Metro area seems to turn into a rival BBQ pit at times. They even put that sort of stuff in obituaries!
Ray – I’m partial to the tomato based western NC style of barbecue. I prefer it coarse chopped with bark. I’m also partial to barbecue slaw, which apparently is unique to western NC. Instead of a typical mayonnaise based slaw (which is white), barbecue slaw uses a tomato and vinegar base and has a little bit of a bite to it (and is red). I like the eastern NC style of barbecue, too, but for a mustard and vinegar based sauce I think the best is Bessinger’s Barbeque in Charleston, SC. We go to Charleston once or twice a year and bring a few bottles home. I like the original or spicy golden sauce. Here’s a link to their website where you can order sauce. http://www.bessingersbbq.com/shop/
Wolverine – I always thought Kansas City was confused about what barbecue really is. There should be a law that the term “barbecue” means pulled smoked pork. KC barbecue could be pork, chicken, beef, ribs (beef and pork), or sausage. Where I’m from when someone says barbecue you know what they mean. For “other than pork” barbecue, I like Harold’s in Abilene, Texas. (Others in Abilene prefer Joe Allen’s Bar-B-Que). Harold’s is a dump of a place. A wall is covered with pictures made at Harold’s over the years and there is one labeled “the only white guy that ever worked at Harold’s,” which at the time I lived in Abilene was true and probably still is. You could go in and tell Harold you need a two-meat combo (beef brisket and sausage) for 4 people and he’d fix what you need, round off the price, and give you some cornbread to munch on while driving home. Harold doesn’t have a website, but he does have a Facebook page. Just type “Harold’s Bar-B-Que” in the search window and you’ll find it.
Morris, my man, it is dinner time; and you are making me hungry as a bear. You’re probably right about those Kansas City BBQ people. Sometimes I half expect to see tuna fish BBQ. It is almost a religion of sorts. People drive all the way across the county just to get to their favorite spot. You can hardly pick up a newspaper around there in the warmer months without being informed of the time and place of the latest BBQ competition. One thing I have never done and will never do: ask anyone about the secrets of their sauce recipe. Figure I would have better luck going to the Tower of London and asking the Beefeaters if I could take some of the Crown Jewels home for a closer inspection!
There is just something healthy about people on a blog sharing bbq stories. No one has mentioned Maryland bbq chicken. That is vinegar based too. (at least on the way to the beaches)
Speaking of holes in the wall, has anyone been to Allman’s bbq in Fredericksburg? Its across route 1 from the UMW campus. Truly a hole in the wall. Maybe it upgraded into a real restaurant. As I recall, it is tomato based.
Go Steelers!
Gotta go with the Cheeseheads!
Go ETrade babies!
The WaPo has a story on the Census numbers for PWC. It seems as though the Hispanic and Asian population has almost tripled over the last decade.

They also have an interactive map where you can see the gory details of your neighborhood.
Zoom in and see the changes in your neighborhood. Enjoy!

Lafayette, I’m sure the 2010 census numbers will be the subject of no small
amount of study for some time.
Observations:
For the first time in our local history, the largest minority isn’t Black, but Latino:
PWC – 81,469 Latino, 81,196 Black
MC – 11,896 Latino, 5,188 Black
MPC -4,645 Latino, 1,852 Black
Total population 2010:
PWC- 402,002
MC- 37,821
MPC – 14,273

I find this info about Woodbridge hard to believe.
@Censored, I find that had to believe also. I know that the Eastern’s big growth is over. But 87% loss? Nah. Typo.
Interesting what was said about fertility.
Woohoooooooo! I’m the majority minority!! Soon the circle will be complete…. 😉
Manassas City
123.4% increase Hispanic
56% increase Asian
10.7 % increase Black
-22.8% loss White
7.6% increase in population in 10 years
My neighborhood (around Weems Elementary School)
4.2% increase in pop. in 10 years
563.9% increase Hispanic
166.7% increase Asian
39.6% increase Black
-24.8% loss White
Thanks, Lafayette.
I’m already starting on the NEXT football season. GEAUX SAINTS!!
@Cargosquid
That’s if they have a next season in 2011.
I’m looking forward to scab football so we can depress union wages. 😉
Bwahahaha!!! LOVE IT..looks like our ABC Stores will stay state stores for now. Glad to know this Virginia tradition will continue on. Sorry to the carpetbaggers in the Commonwealth that were hoping for the privatization of our ABC Stores.

I would vote for NC BBQ any day of the week. Its that vinegar base.
Moon, you are just a dyed-in-the-wool Southerner all full of the vinegar!!! LOL!

I’m a fan of Pierce’s BBQ in Williamsburg. Although it’s not the best I’ve had, it’s still pretty good.
