The Richmond Times-Dispatch host Jim Nolan hands out the inaugural Squawkie Awards as the session draws to a close. The ceremony is entertaining and funny. Of course, there is the oily aroma of Virginia politics.

The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to the Democratic leaderhship in the Senate.  You can guess why.

Enjoy.  You will never guess who gets the Best Picture Squawkie, Citizen Kane!  Will he or won’t he?

7 Thoughts to “Capital Squawk: The Awards Show”

  1. There seems to be very little interest in state news. You all should watch this. Sometimes its good to add a little levity to some serious things.

  2. *cry* I want those 3 minutes of my life back. The liberal disdain dripping from his monologue made me want to gag.

    *SPOILER ALERT*

Don’t look for anything journalistic OR funny.

  3. Liberal distain? You have got to be kidding me. In the first place, the Richmond Times-Dispatch is hardly liberal. Secondly, it spoofed the highlights of the GA. I am not sure I found any positive or negative connotation there.

Marin, you have strange politics. No Squawkie for you. You get the Oscar…a Grouchie.

  4. I’d like to thank my team owners: Mr. Murdoch, Mr. Beck and the Koch Brothers.. I’d also like to thank my sponsors.. Big Pharma, Big Oil, and Wall Street.

Without my entire team I could’ve have won this Grouchie. 🙂

    1. @marin but if you drink, it will come from the state, at least for this year.

I hope you own some of those big oil stocks. The ride up has been fun.

“Interest” in state politics. Reminds me of several comments made by Mrs. W before I started getting addicted to the internet and the blogs. In essence, her feelings were that we knew a lot about county politics and events and were up to our eyeballs in news about national politics and happenings but that Richmond seemed like it was way off somewhere in a foreign country. The newspapers and other media seemed to do a poor job of passing the word about Richmond, at least in our opinion. You had to hunt for it if you were really interested. It looks to me like the blogs, whatever their political inclinations, have done a pretty fair job of filling what we felt was a real information gap.

    1. Lowell over at blue Virginia blog does an excellent job with the liberal end of it. Virginia Virtucon does a good job with the conservative end.

I just read the Richmond Times Dispatch online. It really is like we live in another planet, even though 28% of the state is Northern VA.

I have always thought that downstate wouldn’t care if we seceded.
