Father and friend report social services unresponsive

The dreadful story of the neglected children in Bristow continues.  Interviews with the father of the first set of neglected kids reveal even more information.  Apparently the mother, Christina Dawn Moore, does have visitation with the twins who were found wandering in diapers at a junk yard  when they were toddlers.  Their father is Daniel Tinchard who now has custody of his children.  He reported that he has made several calls regarding abuse and neglect,

According to News and Messenger:

In the past few years, Tincher estimates he made three or four complaints to Social Services – including one alleging physical abuse – regarding his twin boys. The boys live with their father in Bealeton but go to Moore’s house on selected weekends due to a visitation agreement.

A friend of the family has also made numerous complaints.

The family friend, who attended Brentsville High School with Moore in the early 2000s, said she made close to 10 calls from 2007 to 2010 to the Prince William and Fauquier Social Services departments regarding the situation. She said she heard nothing from anyone other than a brief phone conversation with a social worker.

Rachel Maddow finds herself in the middle of an over-reach by a conservative group.  She has found that she is the subject of a FOIA request at 3 state universities.

Maddow is quoted in the  Huffington Post:

The latest incarnation of this breed of conservatism weirdly involves this show,” Maddow said. As she described it, a conservative think tank in Michigan called the Mackinac Center submitted a FOIA request seeking any emails from labor professors at the University of Michigan, Wayne State University and Michigan State University. The center demanded any email that includes the words “Scott Walker,” “Wisconsin,” “Madison,” and “Maddow.”

VA Tech fined over failed campus security in 2007 massacre

As VA Tech continues to heal from the worst massacre in US history, they got dealt another blow, this time by the US Department of Education.  According to the Washington Post:

The federal government said Tuesday that it plans to issue the maximum possible fine against Virginia Tech — $55,000 — for violations of a campus safety law in connection with the 2007 shooting rampage that left more than 30 students and teachers dead.

A federal official wrote in a letter to Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger that the penalty for failing to provide timely warnings about the threat to the campus on the day of the massacre should be greater.

Involuntary Sterilization–Ooops She Did it Again!

Today the News and Messenger reported a very disturbing story.  A Bristow couple had boarded 3 children ages 4 months, 2 and 4 years, up in a room with a sheet of drywall, amongst all sorts of filth.  The oldest of the children escaped and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.  The police were called and the children were placed with social services and the couple was arrested and jailed without bond.

The story is quite nasty.    Perhaps nastist of all is the fact that Christina Moore has been arrested for criminal child neglect before.  She was arrested in 2005 because her 22 month old twins were wandering around a junk yard in just diapers, while she slept in a camper.  She lost custody of those children.   So it appears that she just had herself some more kids to abuse and neglect.

At what point do the courts simply get tired of renewable kids and force this woman into either surgical or chemical sterilization?  This is not a victimless crime and these victims are defenseless and unable to fight this monster mom back.  Ordinarily I believe in innocent until proven guilty.  I don’t feel that generous over this situation.

If it isn’t legal to sterilize habitual child abuse offenders, then it ought to be.  Meanwhile, serious jail time is in order.  Thank goodness the child escaped and ran for help.  That is a pretty self sufficient 4 year old.  I suppose the poor little thing has had to be.

Newt Gingrich: I’m not a hypocrite

Oaaakaaaay.  Let’s see what Mr. Newt has to say for himself about why trying to impeach a president when he, speaker of the house, was also having an affair.

According to Politico:

Pressed on “Fox News Sunday” about his adulterous past, Newt Gingrich said it was not hypocritical for him to impeach Bill Clinton while he cheated on his own wife because he never lied under oath.

“I don’t know what you would have had me do,” he said, getting a little testy, “because…the president of the United States [was] committing perjury. Remember, he’s a lawyer! This was not some accidental thing. And I thought the outcome was about right.”

The all-but-official candidate for the Republican presidential nomination granted that his own extramarital affairs will be an issue in the coming campaign, but he sounded hopeful that voters will, if they don’t forgive or forget, at least look the other way.

The Vanishing of the Bees

Albert Einstein warned  of two approaching apocalypses: nuclear annihilation and the disappearance of  bees. He said:

“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left.”

Vanishing of the Bees – Trailer from Bee The Change on Vimeo.

For about the past 5 years there has been an occasional alarm raised about the disappearance of what is commonly known as the honey bee. This reduction in the bee populations has sent an alarm through the scientific community that something is wrong. The condition of the vanishing bees is known as Colony Collapse Disorder.

At least 1/3rd of every bite that goes into our mouths is made possible by bees because of pollination. This simply isn’t something we can do for ourselves.

What is causing CCD? Pesticides? Emissions? Just a normal bee cycle?
Do we just blow this off as liberal BS? Is it worth the risk? Many people worry about what debt will do to their children and grandchildren. What will no food do to them?

Just something to think about.

Taylor and Ferraro: A Rough Week for Women Trailblazers

It was a rough week for older women.  2 American icons passed this week, both know for different reasons–Elizabeth Taylor and Geraldine Ferarro.

Elizabeth Taylor passed away at the age of 79.  She was absolutely one of the most beautiful women in the world.  Her eyes were violet.  She was a child star and continued to captivate fans the rest of her life.  Even in old age and poor health she maintained some of that beauty.  Happy marriages alluded her.  She had 8 different husbands.  🙄

To Virginians she is best known for her marriage to Senator John Warner.  Before that, she was known for snagging Debbie Reynold’s husband, Eddie Fisher.  She had a tumultuous marriage to Sir Richard Burton.

Parents Outraged over Truncated Pledge

From EduinReview.com:

The North Collins Elementary School in New York has ignored the requests of students and parents to bring back the full Pledge of Allegiance. Each morning, the students are prompted with the first six words of the pledge, “I pledge allegiance to the flag” before the intercom system is turned off. School officials maintain that it’s more time efficient and better for the students to let them continue the pledge at their own pace. Students and parents believe they are missing out on a certain level of patriotism that should be present at school.

Perhaps it would be easier to understand if the students didn’t spend the time every day (in unison, over the intercom) to recite the school’s “character pledge.” Some people are concerned that the priorities presented here are a little twisted.

This story has been in the news alot.  I expect this school is not the only one with deviations regarding The Pledge.  Some schools right here in Prince William County say The Pledge in both English and in Spanish.  Some schools somewhere probably do not have it at all.

The Powers That Be should have listened to the ‘Union’

Catastrophe was avoided earlier last week when two incoming planes  at Reagan National had to be guided in by none other than their own pilots.  The air traffic tower was unresponsive.   The planes were coming in during the midnight shift and only one person was on that shift in the control tower.

An investigation proved that the person on duty, a supervisor, had fallen asleep.

From Washingtonpost.com:

Federal Aviation Administrator Randy Babbitt said Friday that he will revamp air traffic control guidelines nationwide after an incident in which the lone supervisor on duty in the Reagan National Airport tower slept while two airliners landed on their own.
