    A family funeral home. It starts off with the dad being killed bringing the brand new hearse from the dealership. You would like it very much. Awesome show start to finish. You should checkout on ON Demand. The whole family learns more about each other than ever could have imagined. Lots of familiar faces, even that fool “Dwight” from The Office is on there a while, he’s freak on both shows.

  2. Rick Bentley

    Emma, I do lovbe psychological elements, so I’ll try “Dexter” again. I watched it once or twice and thought “hmm, that’s odd”.

    As to “Six Feet Under”, there are really great characters on there, and one of the main themes of the show IMO is that they, and we, change over time. We adapt, and change in unforseen ways, as we move towards our needs and wants. Also a focus on death’s inevitability and coping with it. Francis Conroy as Ruth was fantastic; Peter Krauss as Nate was fantastic; Lauren Ambrose as Claire was pretty fantastic. (Michael C. Hall as David was pretty good). I think it really set the bar for how good drama can be and how much depth can be brought to a TV show.

    “Six Feet” grew on me, slowly. At some point in Season 2 I realized this was the best thing yet on TV.

  3. Big Dog

    M-H, If you think it is OK to be careless with facts, that is your choice.
    It is a free country and this is your blog.

    1. @Big Dog, perhaps I will be less careful with facts next time I go over and defend the City against some of your nay sayers?

      You know, if the post office says I live in Manassas, that’s good enough for me. I don’t think I am being careless with facts considering I have had a Manassas address longer than I want to admit on this blog.

      I think perhaps you need to look at the ill will you are spreading amongst those of us who try to be very fair between the two political jurisdictions. Are we speaking politics or community? The political geography of the place relies on man-made borders. The community of the place relies on the good will of people like Cindy who don’t make a distinction when reaching out to others.

      This isn’t a one way street. As long as we have Manassas Mall, Manassas Battlefield, Manassas in front of stores, we are going to be a community.

  4. To all of the above discussing the realities of Manassas, PWC, city vs county, etc….

    You do realize that you ALL get lumped into the “Northern Virginia” together, right? If it happens in Arlington, you all get tarred with the brush…. and its only Loudoun, Arlington, Fairfax, and PWC that get’s the “blame” for being NOVA…even though Clarke and Frederick are much farther north.

    Just like Virginians are considered to be Yankees where I come from…… 😉

  5. Juturna

    HBO will be presenting a mini-series based on the book Mildred Pierce beginning this weekend. I’ve seen the 40’s movie with Zachery Scott and Joan Crawford a zillion times – but the movie didn’t follow the book closely. I’m thinking of giving up HBO (no more BL) and going to netflix. HBO is an extra $15 a month – Netflix?

  6. Rick Bentley

    HBO has me hooked. Treme is must-see TV to me, and Entourage, Ricky Gervais Show, and Curb Your Enthusiasm are good entertainment. True Blood and Boardwalk Empire are okay too.

  7. Rick Scott, gov. of Florida, is on Neil Cavuto lying about teacher evaluation. He says effective teachers want to be measured. Let’s hear his reason for thinking that.

    He is so full of crap. Cavuto is asking some hard questions.

    Scott says he will have the best education system in the country. They have a long way to go. He has signed this anti teacher bill into law.

    @Big Dog
    Manassas Plain existed, as part of Prince William County long before the Town of Manassas was a glimmer in George Round’s eye. The Town sprung up after the Civil War. I am amazed by the attitude of residents in continuously complaining about this. It must be a size thing, I think that they have County envy.

  9. Emma

    @Lafayette I love Weeds! Haven’t gotten to Season 6 yet–lined up on my Netflix DVD queue after all of “Dexter.”

  10. Red Dawn

    @Big Dog LOL!!! I could literally stand in the City of Manassas and have a Manassas address in the county ALL @ the same time. What would you like me to report?!?! LOL!!!

  11. Red Dawn

    Screw it…who wants to pay me off & build me a fence?!?! 🙂 I like that idea 🙂 LOL!! With all the crimes in MANASSAS lately I’d rather be paid in tax dollars ( a kick back ) Vs. blood money to keep HUSH ( rolling eyes ) LOL! 😉

  12. Red Dawn

    “Technically, Manassas as the area existed before the City. I have lived in the town of Manassas and the Manassas area of the county. I have worked mid county and in Woodbridge, all in Prince Willilam County. In my world, Manassas as a city is Johnny Come Lately.”

    Moon, MAYBE we should consider a name change like Price Cole apartments!! I think they were before their time when renaming it Centreville Gardens 🙂 LOL!! What’s a few feet..I mean a half a mile?! 😉

  13. clueless

    From Wiki: The crossroads grew into the town of Manassas following the war, incorporated in 1873. In 1892, it became the county seat of Prince William County, replacing Brentsville. In 1975, Manassas became an independent city.

    That means in 2015, Manassas will have it’s 40th Anniversary as an independent City. I am going to get it ruby slippers. Moon, since most of your contributors are under 30, they may not remember when Manassas was part of Prince William County.

    1. I’ll chip in for the Ruby Slippers but for the life of me I can’t think of anyone under 30. Fess up, kiddlies.

  14. Red Dawn

    Moon, Those Ruby Slippers….will never have the privilege of being on display @ The Smithsonian 🙁 LOL!! Gone are the times.This IS the LAST Battle of Manassas! LOL!!! Let us give it to Big Dog! White flag ( insert Jersey Shore accent ) HERE!!

  15. Lafayette

    @clueless
    You’re name is spot on when it comes to the ages of the contributors here. Hell, most us have been around long before Manassas became it’s own independent city. There are a couple of us that have been around for a lifetime. Furthermore, you had to resort to Wiki for facts on the CoM. I doubt most of us on this blog would have had to resort to Wiki, as we were here and remember when this happened. The two tiny cities, that share MULTIPLE services with the county(which they pay for) really only got their own schools for becoming a city. Then OP was built and that divided the entire community(CoM, MP and PWC). Do you remember that one? Or perhaps you can dig something up on Wiki on that one.

  16. Cindy B

    I was twenty-something when I moved to the city….30 years ago.

    Honestly, the name Manassas is as far-flung as Manassas Gap, Lake Manassas and Manassas Battlefield. You can’t do like Fairfax and distinguish Manassas City from “Manassas County” — it doesn’t work. Best you can do is “Manassas area” which still has me looking at a map for street names.

    What about Point of Woods in the City ? When things happen in Point of Woods, journalists never identify it as Point of Woods 1 & 2, which is separate from Point of Woods 3 and Point of Woods 4 and Point of Woods East/Lakeside. And guess what, even those are separated into two different community policing areas — Weems Community #1 and Weems Community #2. I can never remember which one i am part of.

  17. Lafayette

    I don’t know how anyone can keep up on the various Point of Woods. However, I do believe we are one community. You’ve helped those of us in the county, and I have help those in the city. Of course, there are others that have done the same.
    You just simply can’t put borders around the City of Manassas. 😉
    Glad we were willing to cross borders.

  18. Thomas

    Dr. Babur Lateef has a great new campaign ad up.

  19. Cindy B

    I’m right there with you, Lafayette. Grateful to county folks for being so welcoming.

  20. Emma

    Except I will cross the border when it comes to mealtime, with just a few exceptions. Damn that COM meals tax.

  21. Geraldine Ferraro dead at age 75. Tireless voice for those without a voice.

    George needs to come along and give his send off.

  22. I can’t turn down the raw bar at City Tavern, Emma. I can just say no to the tax except there.

  23. Another person who should get kudos for crossing borders (not necessarily limited to geographical boundaries) is Steve Thomas.

  24. clueless

    @Lafayette
    Lafayette, I was being sarcastic.

  25. Welcome, Thomas. Thanks for the posts.

  26. clueless

    @Lafayette
    mildly sarcastic as I am a bit north of 30 as well.

  27. Emma

    @Moon-howler For me it’s Philly Tavern and Carmello’s–can’t wait until they reopen!

  28. Lafayette

    @Emma
    I only pay that tax for a couple of places in CoM. Town of Haymarket has it too, and love Guiseppe’s.

  29. Slowpoke Rodriguez

    I like Donald Trump more every day! You GOT to love a potential candidate that just doesn’t care what you think about what he says.

  30. @slowpoke, yes but he remains a candidate. Most people want some politician to cater to their way of thinking.
