    Not for the faint of heart, but I know how you like to live on the edge 😈

    Looks like the Neabsco District will be getting some street lights. 🙂

    Yes, fishing can hurt — if you sit on a hook.

  4. Slowpoke Rodriguez

    Hey, my BP finally started to crawl out of the toilet today!

    God, Cato, I didn’t know Silicon Graphics was still around! I used to support those boxes in the mid-90s. Big CAD/CAM boxes. Used to be used in movies quite a bit too. I haven’t SEEN an SGI box in years and years.

    I found a shiny new ETF I like called CROP. MOO is a little expensive for me right now, but I dig the name, and I really dig the basket.

    I’d be curious to know what Cato’s thoughts are about when QE2 ends mid-year.

  8. I forgot to post this. I just wanted everyone to know that I’m a changed man and that I’m throwing my support behind THE ONE who will win it in 2012!!

    No doubt there will be some turbulence, but I believe it will create some good trading opportunities. Right now, we’re being bombarded with chatter and CNBC wags talking about how the market will crater when QE is withdrawn. I think it could well lead to a 10-15% correction, but that it will be a tradeable bottom and the beginning of a multi-year zig-zag/flat market pattern.

    Remember, the bull case is all about inflation. Monetary policy has us on a path to a 5% long bond and a 4% 10-year note. There’s no question that equities are a better place to be when cash has a negative return, and once all the sound and fury is over people will realize that.

    @Cato the Elder
    Gotcha….owning a piece of a business (especially a well run one) beats holding dollars of dwindling value. I’m hip.

      What’s Apple’s problem this week?

    My opinion, bear raid. Hedgies are rotating money out of AAPL and putting it to work in higher momentum names. Case in point LULU, BIDU and some of the cloud names that popped. These guys know they can’t make 10 points in AAPL in a day but they can harvest gains there and put money to work in easier stocks to manipulate. It’s called a paint job, as in paint the tape green for end of quarter so they can goose their performance numbers. They had the perfect setup to do it with the Japan situation, they can run around and spread rumors about supply constrictions, etc.

  12. Cato the Elder

    Also, be careful when QE ends, it’s not going to be like the market of the last 2 years where you could just throw a dart at the board and make money. We won’t have any wage inflation for quite some time, but we already have commodity push inflation and consumers are going to get the screws put to them, so concentrate on stuff that will benefit from inflationary pressures like the oils, coal, maybe a good sleeper natty gas play, and anyone who makes equipment that helps companies get that stuff out of the ground and transported like JOYG, CAT, rails. I like DE on any pullback too. The ags may wake up here and start to work. Corn is ripping higher.

    but on the lighter side I’ve been sucked into the coupon savings game. I hit 7 grocery stores today and saved $109.74 in q’s and store card discounts. I bought 103 items for 186.00 which averages $1.78 each. 40lbs of dog food (Dog Chow), a hoodie, (6) 12 packs of pepsi and coke products, 10 Oscar Meyer lunchables, 2/64 oz apple juices, a 3 qt bottle of Purex softener, and more…and more… I used 39 coupons for a savings of 46.17. Club card savings at 4 out of seven stores was 63 dollars. I love this!

  14. Emma

    @Cargosquid Thanks for that, Cargo! I guess I was just looking at things the wrong way! It’s all so much better now.

    There’s a show on now called “Extreme Couponing” That show blows my mind.

  16. Lafayette

    @Slowpoke Rodriguez
    Blows my mind too! I use coupons and fared well myself today. I was happy to save about 35% on my bill at Giant today. However, these people take it to the extreme. I’m curious if they actually use all of their purchases before the expire.

  17. Cato the Elder

    Man oh man do I love coupons. It takes me a good hour to map out my strategy for a visit to the grocery store.

  18. Emma

    That’s why Mr. Emma does most of the grocery shopping. He enjoys the hunt. I don’t.

    So glad to see that the healthcare “reform” will provide job security and a financial jackpot for lawyers and “consultants.” I’ve been so worried about their future:

    This really surprises me, Emma. I love the hunt and the kill($saving$). I wouldn’t dare let the Mr. do the grocery shopping.

    Extreme Coupons is a series now and premieres this week on TLC. I watched the one show they did and really do wonder how some of them use all of their stuff. The woman who got 150 free Butterfingers? How is she going to eat them all? I do know that some donate stuff to shelters and food banks. I love the hunt and it’s fun to save, but it does take time to plan the trips. At least here in Manassas we have lots of stores to choose from and don’t have to drive too far.

    The Blue Bell Festival is coming up this weekend. We attended last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. What a sight!

    DB, The show shows the EXTREME couponers but here are some sites that I have learned and saved from. They do all the work by shopping and comparing the stores for the best sale and even tell you what coupon inserts to use ( saved from newspapers ) or where to print the coupons according to the sales. They explain how to get started & organize. I have already saved BIG and I am only buying things that are needed. I hope to get some sort of mini stockpile and be able to donate to shelters, food banks, family & friends but I am not going nuts w/it especialyl since I don’t have the room. 😉 Here are some of those sites to help you get started. You can also find them on FB and keep up with all the deals via the newsfeed. Enjoy 🙂

    One more thing, these sites are shared by some of those Extreme Couponers!! Doesn’t mean we have to go to the extreme 🙂 LOL
