I think Mildred Pierce is an HBO mini-series, and I have no idea how many episodes it will be or when they’re scheduled to run.
Showtime has The Borgias, which begins in early April, though I don’t know it it’s a mini-series or a series or a movie. No clue about schedule.
HBO also has Games of Thrones is set to begin in mid April – around tax time I think. I’m somewhat, vaguely, kinda, sort of sure that one is a mini-series – but, yet again, I have no clue how many episodes it will be or how long it will run.
@KimS I think you are correct. It looked like a mini series to me also.
Lafayette is correct. HBO is an indulgence, especially if you have netflix. But their series make me keep it. I think it has gone up to 17 or 18 bucks a month. Even at that, I would gladly pay it all year long just to see Big Love and Boardwalk.
You can also drop it when nothing is on you like. However, you run the risk of price increase.
@punchak
It depends on your cable service provider. With Fios we pay about $15 per month. When Big Love, Entourage, etc. are airing, it’s well worth it. I might only see a movie a year at the theatre.
We got one of those deals from Comcast, $99 a month for phone, internet, and cable, including the movie channels. With Entourage and True Blood I think the cost is well worth it, and the exercise channel has some pretty good work out programs.
@Kim, fios gouges for much more than that. I should probably call and see if they have any deals.
I have phone, internet , TV, HBO, and 2 DVRs and one set box. It is running close to $200 per month. Not sure I could give up FIOS. that would be difficult.
The 150 minutes of PE for middle school and elementary students was vetoed by Governor McDonnell. It is an excellent idea on paper but was seen as an unfunded mandate.
Basically, it would be impossible to do during winter months for all schools without gyms.
“Mildred Pierce” was mildly interesting, but not worth staying up until 11 for. Will probably watch it just out of curiosity, but Kate’s definitely no Margene.
I guess I’m just not so committed to the urgent national interests of the French that I’m willing to borrow more Chinese money to commit U.S. troops. I fear we are supporting the next generation of mujihadeen. God help us.@Slowpoke Rodriguez
Emma :I wish the President would stop jabbing his index finger at us. It’s not polite.
Emma, you mean you don’t like being scolded? The finger, words, tone and facial expressions were meant to convey that he’s aggresive and agressively defending our 3rd war. I’m not buying what he’s selling.
I am enjoying the end of the tribute to Daddy Bush. Jimmy and Rosealynn Carter are there and so is Daddy Bush’s other son, Bill Clinton who is beaming and chilling out more than his own son. I think that is such an hilarious ‘adoption.’ George and Laura are there on his other side.
Out of all of the ‘movie’ channel series I can’t believe that nobody mentioned ‘Eastbound and Down’! I chose Dan Cooper but Kenny Powers was a very close second.
I decided to keep peace in my house, present a good example to my child, and save my health. I did not watch the speech. I already knew what he was going to say.
My main problem is that he didn’t do any of this BEFORE attacking a foreign country, that posed no immediate danger, is not a vital national interest, and is lying about our goals in the mission. No blood for oil for europeans!
Instead of watching President Present, I’ve been ransacking the internet. Apparently I own a pistol that no one else does: The Walther Model 3. Built in 1910. Can’t find more than two pictures, two descriptions, no opinions on value, and no gun auction has sold one. I ran out of Google images…….
Then I checked the value of a little S&W .22 that I bought my mom in the 70’s. Its doubled in worth! Woohoo!
@Cargosquid Ah, but Libya is of vital national interest—–to France. And we need to be useful to those Europeans so they will “like” us, even if the Chinese have to fund us to do so and our soldiers have to die.
@Dan Cooper
I definately forgot about good ole Kenny Powers. That is one funny show. Thanks for the reminder.
Moon,
Eastbound and Down is on HBO, but it’s probably not your cup of tea. It is a twisted comedy about a washed up baseball player and he’s still sportin’ a mullet in this day and age.
Check this article out it talks about “manternity tourists” and “baby stays” complete with a stroller. Oh, and upto 40 people living in houses. Give me a break! http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/29/us/29babies.html
I guess I am trying to figure out the down side of this. Well-to-do people making their kids Americans? Maybe that is who will be paying taxes and the money for your social security in 20 years. Someone point out the down side of this to me. It escapes me this morning.
re maternity tourists. In the grand scheme of those who put in vs those who take out…this doesn’t sound like a bad deal.
moon – they are circumventing the intent of the immigration system. The US wants the proper immigrants to move here, not just every immigrant that wants to come here. How do we know that they are well to do (if that should make a difference) – they could be using our medicaid services for the births.
I don’t see how they could be using medicaid to do this. The article sounded like these women had paid thousands of dollars to be able to do this.
I am not saying it is ok. I am just saying I can’t figure out how it is hurting me or anyone else. There might be glaring reasons that I just haven’t thought of yet.
The news about the woman in Libya being hauled away and not heard from made me think about Lara Logan who was attacked in Cairo, flown to the US and treated at a hospital before recuperating at home. I’ve been trying to find news about her and her condition but no luck.
Does anybody know anything about her?
NBC has delayed its quadrienial comedy extravaganza from May to September due to an anticipated shortage of clowns in the spring. NBC and the Reagan Library expect a full clown contingent by Labor Day, which will make for a lot more laughs when the show airs. http://mobile.politico.com/iphone/#_storyPage
very interesting documentary on the financial crisis – http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/inside-job/ . I believe it points the finger at the people who were truly responsible for the situation. It also points to the real re-distribution of wealth, from the bottom 90% to the top 10% of individuals.
I guess it isn’t a good idea to go after Huckabee.
There is talk on Fox News of pulling Natalie Portman’s oscar because Rosalie O’Connor, a body double, did most of the dancing. The double didn’t feel she got enough credit.
Did the body double do the ACTING? Then Portman won fair and square. However, the double SHOULD get a lot of credit. Inquiring minds want to know, though…was it a double in the “hot scenes” or was that really Portman getting naughty? I mean, why else would guys go see it?
I am sure my husband, kids and brothers could agree with you 100% re Bossypants
I am not sure if I am being accused of being bossy (check), a feminist (check) obnoxious (check) or what but I am probably guilty. And I do like Tina Fey. Good UVA girl.
Nice of you to give “honorable mention” to your neighbors. PWC ranked 11th and Manassas Park ranked 12th, out of those same 134. I see the CoM ranked 9th. Had I seen this article I would have said all three localities were in the top 12. Clearly, some of us see this as OUR community, and others don’t. 🙄
Mad Bowl was a good place to get muddy. And my outlook comes from roller skating around Cabell Hall before there was AC during exam time. I lived off of Ruby.
You left out “Easters”, “Mid-Summers”, “Green Bottle Night”, “Grad Hap”, Summer Concert Series, dime beers at Sophies and any night at TJ’s (RIP), any and all followed by a GusBurger at the spot and/or a Grillswith at the U-Diner.
I didn’t roller skate at Easters, Mid-Summers etc. Just in spring and summer during exam time. I had moved on by then. Remember that my kid timing and adult timing is different different from yours. My timing involves Joan Baez, Simon and Garfunkel, Janis Joplin concerts and dancing at the Cavalier (RIP) which I had strict orders not to go into.
Here’s one for you stock hounds to keep your eye on – SGI. (put the “h” in the “http” to view chart)
Breaking out in volume: ttp://img692.imageshack.us/img692/3807/sgi2.jpg
Now, look at a longer term chart and you see how important these levels are: ttp://img31.imageshack.us/img31/5035/sgi3.jpg
It’s clearing resistance/support from 2006/2007. If this one follows through there’s nothing but an air pocket all the way to 32 bucks, or a 50% gain from here.
It could happen really quickly. You’ll notice in the longer term chart it dropped from 32 to about 20 in a single week back in late ’07. That means that there isn’t a whole lot in the way on the back up in terms of overhead supply. No need to chase though because the way this stock trades is that it makes a huge move in a couple of days (it just did) then chews around and does nothing for a couple of weeks, then POW another huge move. It’s a really good pattern to trade.
You want to see some basing action right here, meaning that you want to see a string of several days where the range is relatively narrow. My horizon for the target is the end of the year, but if the Lord is willing and the market doesn’t tank it could happen a lot sooner.
What on earth are we going to watch at 9 pm tonight?
Juturna recommends Mildred Pierce tonight on HBO at 9 pm. @Emma
I am even more depressed because I ran out of Tudors. Netflix doesn’t have seasons 3 or 4 on instant watch. I might just go buy the damn thing.
I’m not a big fan of Kate Winslet, but I have that set up on the recorder and will give it a try.
Is it a series or a one time event?
Doesn’t something new come on middle of April?
I think Mildred Pierce is an HBO mini-series, and I have no idea how many episodes it will be or when they’re scheduled to run.
Showtime has The Borgias, which begins in early April, though I don’t know it it’s a mini-series or a series or a movie. No clue about schedule.

I don’t know exactly why, but I’m surprised at the number of TV shows many of you’re watching. Several I’ve never even heard of.
How much does HBO cost BTW?
Giant wasn’t busy due to the snow. However, I did see a couple of Howler Offspring while there. 🙂
@punchak

Ooops…. MP is a five part series and is supposed to closely follow the book. The 1940’s film did not. Also, 39 Steps on PBS is a great WWI thriller….
BL will be missed.
@Juturna, which PBS is featuring 39 Steps. My electronic guide isn’t showing the words 39 Steps.
@Kim, fios gouges for much more than that. I should probably call and see if they have any deals.

My neighborhood is finally going to get dug up for FIOS. I’m not feeling so left out anymore. Now about that paving…
You will pay and pay for that dig up too, Emma. They dug up bulbs and then it took a while to get FIOS in. But it was well worth it.
The 150 minutes of PE for middle school and elementary students was vetoed by Governor McDonnell. It is an excellent idea on paper but was seen as an unfunded mandate.

I liked Mildred Pierce in a weird way.
You need change. This is the change you need. Obey.

You better be enjoying, NOT that email I just sent you. GRRRR!!! Can you hear me now? 😉
Out of all of the ‘movie’ channel series I can’t believe that nobody mentioned ‘Eastbound and Down’! I chose Dan Cooper but Kenny Powers was a very close second.
On what premium is Eastbound and down?
I decided to keep peace in my house, present a good example to my child, and save my health. I did not watch the speech. I already knew what he was going to say.

On another note, a person was convicted of Mortgage Fraud – http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/26/business/26nocera.html?pagewanted=1&_r=3&src=tptw – maybe not the person you would think. I do hope I never run across the FBI agent, he seems to have too much time on his hands.

Ms. Portman deserves to keep her oscar if for no other reason than her amazing thong-work in the upcoming “Your Highness”!

Look on the bright side, if she had been an alum of “Mary Wash or RMWC” you might have been a “bastard Cavalier”.
Of course my outlook may come as the result of too many occasions waking up covered in mud under a bush on Rugby Road or in Mad Bowl.
I was a bastard cavalier myself.
