Seriously, if you have not seen the carpet of bluebells at Merrimac Farm, you are missing Prince William County’s own “wizard of oz” field off poppy’s! Forget all the craziness in politics, forget the 9-5 daily grind, this is truly a moment to just leave all your stress behind and enjoy the gifts of mother nature!
From the Prince William Conservation Alliance website :
Bring your family and friends to Merrimac Farm on Sunday, April 10, beginning at 10:00 am, to welcome spring and view the spectacular display of Virginia Bluebells that carpet the floodplain along Cedar Run for nearly a mile. In the words of one visitor, it’s like walking through Oz.
We’ll have naturalist-led tours to the Bluebells and Cedar Run, where you can stay as long as you’d like. The event also includes a nature art show, children’s activities, concessions and (out)door prizes. Bring your kids, cameras and binoculars for a fun day! Click here for more information and directions.
Sponsored by the Prince William Conservation Alliance, Virginia Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries and Marine Corps Base Quantico.
is there a smoking area?
Can’t wait to see them a second year at Merrimac Farm. I hope to take the teens in my house. I have a new camera, and can take some pictures this year. I saw quite a few familiar faces there last year. 🙂
Elena,
Can you walk the trail unguided? Will you be there this year?
It is quite gorgeous! Hope the weather holds out. I recall losing a boot in the mud a couple of years ago. Oh, how my children laughed!!
I’ve never heard of it. If it’s nice out Ill take Ill take my son to check it out. Would be a nice way to break up the day. Thanks for the info Elena! Always looking for things to do on a Saturday with a little one.
@Dan Cooper
The festival is on Sunday, not Saturday. Kids really do light up when they see the carpet of bluebells. I hope you and yours can enjoy the sight.
