Its time. I resisted. Now I have caved. Time to start the Royal Wedding hype. I hate myself for it also.
The Royal Wedding will take place Friday, April 29, 2011 at some ungodly hour like 4 am est. Meanwhile the press is going absolutely nuts. And as we all know, the Brit press is far worse than hours. Every detail about the royals will be scrutinized.
Since Sarah Fergie Ferguson and I neither one got an invitation I checked out an article of Who’s Who with the Royals. The Brit royals now have all sorts of glamor designer names for their children. Apparently they are no longer content naming their children, Charles, Elizabeth, Margaret, Andrew, Phillip or those other old fashioned names. Now we find Camilla, Savannah, Zara, Autumn (in-law and untitled), Serena, Margarita, Columbus and Cassius. 🙄 The bride -to-be is a commoner. When she marries Prince William, she becomes royalty. According to Time:
Though the only title Middleton will be legally entitled to is that of her husband, it will be for the Queen to decide who gets what. Upon marriage, Middleton would become Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales, though the media would shorten her title to Princess Catherine, a title legally reserved for princesses of birth.
Then there are the hats. The Prince’s wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, always looks like she just stepped out of a Demeter play with all the wheat springs sticking out of her bonnet. Truthfully, they all look absurd, in my opinion. Perhaps its just my American commonness saying that. The titles also baffle me. I suppose I have the founding fathers to thank for sparing us all of that nonsense.
I did decide that I am going to capitalize on getting some blog hits though. If I can just put Prince William in every post, we could get over-run by folks looking for the royal wedding. Meanwhile, I would like to say that the Queen is just a remarkable lady. I love her colors and her prissiness and her spirit. Her youthfulness once again shows as she prepared for this wedding and by George, she and Prince Phillip ARE leading the wedding party.
No, they really aren’t just like us!
US TV coverage begins at 4 am. Since England is 5 hours ahead of our eastern time no one still start arriving before 5 am. The Royal Wedding will be at 11:00 their time. Subtract 5 hours. 6 am. Alarms will be sounding very early Friday morning. Most US stations plan on wrapping this all up by 9 am our time. Several have said Americans want to see the main event and that the rest is …well….BORING.
the royals are an anachronism from a bygone era, soon to be swept away with all remaining vestiges of european culture and replaced with the islamic caliphate
PUH-leez!
Perhaps an anachronism from a bygone era. I expect the wedding couple would agree with that accessment to some degree.
I think your muslim paranoia is…exactly that.
actually my assessment is spot on, demographics is destiny
The bs runs freely I see.
just hard cold facts my dear
🙄
All the stories have been told
Of kings and days of old,
But there’s no England now.
All the wars that were won and lost
Somehow don’t seem to matter very much anymore
(living on a thin line, Dave Davies)
america’s saving grace is that the conquistadors arrived in the new world before the jihadis, that’s all. your grandchildren will grow up in latin america instead of eurabia, count your blessings
I know this won’t come out right but the French would agree with you E..
As for the royal’s.. Meh. My wife looks on and thinks it would be neat to be a princess but the grass is always greener.. Being photographed everyday. One slip up being on the cover of every rag in the UK..
From the perspective of a ‘commoner’ the idea of being a ‘subject’ is offensive to me. But, that’s how they roll.
This is AMERICA. We bow to no one. Cept for China. We need the CA$H! 😉

Of course, the Queen COULD grant the Middletons arms and make them nobility. THEN she could be a REAL princess.
Personally, I think that England has gone so far off the rails that it couldn’t hurt if the Queen asserted herself and dissolved Parliament, issued some decrees, and reminded everyone that they are British SUBJECTS.
You know, just for giggles…..
Phillip is royalty and he was never a real prince other than through his wife. He is the Duke of Edinborough. Prince is a consort title.
Not sure what you mean by ‘arms’ Cargo.
@Marin, I see both sides. I think it is definitely a Cinderella princess story. I watched the Will and Kate story on Lifetime last night and it was very romantic and made of the junk girls are told when they are little. I softened a little.
However, she gives up a lot to be with him. She is older and more worldly than Diana was. She has also gone through Princess lessons. She has been trained. I also think she is assertive enough to tell them all to go ….themselves if they get too pushy and brit on her.
Who will get up to watch the wedding. Raise your hand.
::Moonhowler’s hand slowly goes up::
You would’ve thought that Prince Charles would’ve offed his own mother to be crowned King..
Game of Thrones style!!! BTW, most awesome show on HBO, EVER.
A grant of arms turns a “commoner” into “nobility”, thus coat of arms…..
That’s sort of what I thought. As you can tell, I am a common commoner and had forgotten that expression. Is there another term for ‘turning’ someone.
@Moon-howler
Depends. Are they “undead?” 🙂
I don’t know about other terms for granting nobility or the actual procedures in English law.
I just want to watch Queen Elizabeth say “OFF with their heads!” just once….
