President Obama is under fire again by Fox News and their listeners.  What has the President done this time?  He didn’t celebrate Easter enough.  According to the Huffington Post:

One of the things that’s a “thing” today is that people, driven by a Fox Nation story, are complaining about the Obama White House’s failure to issue a proclamation about Easter. The White House, of course, hosted an Easter Egg Roll, and the president also hosted an Easter-themed prayer breakfast, at which he said this:

“I wanted to host this breakfast for a simple reason — because as busy as we are, as many tasks as pile up, during this season, we are reminded that there’s something about the resurrection — something about the resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ, that puts everything else in perspective.

“We all live in the hustle and bustle of our work… But then comes Holy Week. The triumph of Palm Sunday. The humility of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet. His slow march up that hill, and the pain and the scorn and the shame of the cross. And we’re reminded that in that moment, he took on the sins of the world — past, present and future — and he extended to us that unfathomable gift of grace and salvation through his death and resurrection.

“In the words of the book Isaiah: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

“This magnificent grace, this expansive grace, this ‘Amazing Grace’ calls me to reflect. And it calls me to pray. It calls me to ask God for forgiveness for the times that I’ve not shown grace to others, those times that I’ve fallen short. It calls me to praise God for the gift of our son — his Son and our Savior.”

Now this is like someone not liking the sermon. Good grief. The Easter Bunny was too big, (ugly/short/fat/white/toothy) the prayer was too long, the Easter lilies didn’t smell right, the sunrise was too soon. Is there anything the man can do right?

All of this because President Obama didn’t issue an Easter Proclamation. No one has issued one since 1980. You would think that those who cared would have known it was Easter, wouldn’t you?

and when the evil bush was president the liberal media blasted him for playing golf or what not when american boys were dying in iraq. and all that christian talk from obama is just a bunch of hooey, he’s an atheist who just talks the good talk and says what’s expected of him; if there’s any religious conviction in him he’s a black liberationist a la jeremiah wright, in whose pews he sat for 20 years soaking up the mantra of god damn america, america’s chickens have come home to roost. not that there’s anything wrong with atheism, it’s just that an out of the closet atheist has an iceball’s chance in hell of becoming u.s. prez, even in these enlightened times; say what you want about bush, at least he was sincere and what you saw is what you got. by way of deception must the liberal progressive agenda be foisted on the american public, in the open they would never accept it
The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened.”

“According to the Huffington Post”………good one!

  3. @slow,

Guess you didn’t have a response since you attack the source, that happened to be in about 6 other news sources.

  4. @e

Sorry, you don’t get to declare what someone else’s religion is. That just isn’t your call. No one was criticizing Bush either.

Why is everything in terms of …well the liberals did this and the liberals did that. Stop with the 2nd grade responses. That isn’t discussion.

  5. Starryflights

People like e and slowpoke need something to whine about.

As I have noted before e, and now perhaps slowpoke, would bitch if they were strung up with a new rope. I am beginning to believe they wake up in the morning and scratch their ass with cockle burr just to set their mood for the day. Am sure neither has hemorrhoids since both seem to be perfect a$$holes.

  8. Of course, he had time to celebrate and proclaim the more politically correct religion, Islam, on their religious holidays and put out a message.

And, apparently, black liberation theology IS a strong element in his religious background. Obama tends to go to those churches that support that theme.

More power to him, if that’s what he wants. And if he doesn’t want to put out a message…who really cares?

I won’t like him any better if he DID put out an Easter message and I don’t dislike him more because he didn’t.

But, if I were him, I’d get new PR people.

  12. @cargo,

No, he didn’t send out a muslim message for easter.
Again it is not up to you to define his religion. It is up to him.

He at least to date, has not thrown a birthday party for the Pope.

And on the other hand, here is perhaps the problem as defined on the dark screen:

He is Risen said on 25 Apr 2011 at 3:37 pm: Flag comment

The left hates God, The USA, and human babies. Their “church” is increasingly the public school system and their sacraments are abortion, deviant sexual practices, and a bloated government at all levels that does all things for those who won’t do it for themselves

Is the above statement really a ‘Christian’ thing to say? Not by any Christianity I have ever known. If that is how some Christians think, perhaps it is just better to say nothing.

  13. @Moon-howler
I didn’t say that he sent out a muslim message for easter. I said that he sent out messages for muslims on THEIR holy days.

And I’m not defining his religion. I’m stating that he appears to like black liberation theology. His first pastor did it and the church he went too for Easter did too.

If he’s into that…good for him. That above quote, I’ve never seen. But, as for it being a Christian thing….can’t Christians make political statements concerning liberal priorities?

And once again, name-calling from the left. Don’t y’all get tired of being so predictable?

  16. @cargosquid

I would question if what I saw was made by a Christian. It sounds to me more like someone with a political axe to grind. The Golden Rule sure wasn’t used, not that the GR belongs to Christians exclusively.

I am not sure what ‘Black Liberation’ really is. I don’t care for the Rev. Wright. I doubt if the Prez cares much for him either.

I tend to not comment on black churches. Many have some variations I am not comfortable speaking about mainly because I don’t fully understand and I am not black.

I don’t care that he makes Muslim or Jewish proclamations. Both are minority religions in this country. I always just assumed Christians knew it was Easter. And who listens to proclamations.

What did you think about George Bush having a huge birthday bash for the Pope? I have mixed feelings about it.

  17. I am not sure what ‘Black Liberation’ really is. I don’t care for the Rev. Wright. I doubt if the Prez cares much for him either.

He listened to him for 20 years. He is the pastor of the church that Obama in which he chose to be “born again.” He baptized Obama’s children.

I’d say its safe to say that Obama likes him.

I don’t have any feelings about Bush having a birthday bash for the Pope. Remember, the Pope is the leader of a nation, too. It is nice that a heathen Protestant threw a party for the Holy Father……… Perhaps the Pope can put in a good word and get Bush out of purgatory a little earlier…… 😉

  18. Obama can like Wright without espousing his religious point of view. Also, we don’t know how much of that ranting went on. Its hard to say.

Obama’s message never reflected that ranting from the first time we saw him. I just think hbis relationship to Rev. Wright is immaterial.

Cargo, would you like one of your uber-conservative friends to hold it against you because you are my friend?

I have an eclectic assortment of friends. Live and let live.

  19. Cargo re Pope

Do you really think that the Vatican nation (2 miles x 2 miles) was the reason for that birthday party? It didn’t bother me personally but I thought it sort of stepped over an unspoken line about church and state.

Need I say more about “Faux News”, they are a joke. Did you see that one of the morning talking heads said that Walgreens give pap smears. How is it that these people have a job?!

  21. Censored bybvbl

    @Elena

LOL!!!! Who are these women who go to Walgreens for a pap smear!! Did one of the ignorant male talking heads say this nonsense? They should really be renamed Comedy Central II.

Obama will never satisfy these perennial whiners. I don’t think most people give a good damn about the whiners’ indignation though. They’re just silly complainers.

  22. BoyThreeOne

Black Liberation Theology is based on an interpretation of the bible as God’s deliverance of oppressed people into freedom. It affirms people of color by presenting a faith that includes them as belonging to and beloved by God, not subjugated to a more privileged or worthy group. It emphasizes the love and liberating presence of God as being here and now, not held apart as a prize to be won in some future heaven. There is also a queer liberation theology that affirms LGBT people as beloved by God.

Now, did you come up with that clever “faux news” thing on your own? Does Moon copy off of you? Are YOU the comic genius behind this play on words?

Meanwhile, over at the “real” news network, CNN, Piers Morgan is turning out to be a ratings giant. Almost as many people watch his program as bought Dana Milbank’s last book!! Seriously, he gets, like, 3 or 4 viewers per night!

    Slow,
You know I adore Moon and try my best to emulate her! Oh, and let my husband know when you find a topless salon, he would be very interested!

  27. Elena

Don’t pick on Dana Milbank, he is a fabulous writer! Popular does not always mean the best. Smut and high drama sell faster than witty intelligent comprehensive books, i.e. Dana Milbank.

  28. @Moon-howler
Actually, yes. He is the leader of a nation AND the representative of all Roman Catholics on the planet. So, why not throw a bash? Throw one for the Dalai Lama too, especially since it would tick off the Chinese.

  29. @BoyThreeOne

I believe many black churches espouse that belief. I guess what I want to know is Black Liberation Theology the term the believers would use about themself?

Why does anyone find that belief distasteful? That’s like being pissed off over seeing Black Santa Claus.

Thanks BTO for the explanation. And I want to say that I am sure there are plenty of black churches that believe that without being militant like we saw Rev. Wright doing.

  30. Wolverine

I don’t cotton to such as Rev. Wright or his ilk, but I have seen some Black churches where the spirit can lift you right out of your shoes. The way they vocally and animatedly display their faith puts many a White Christian to shame. They are the very epitome of that Biblical injunction to “make a joyfull noise unto the Lord.” You can hardly keep from tapping your feet. And the oratorical ability of many Black preachers seems to be in a class of its own. In my opinion, those churches are one of the finest products of the American cultural experience.
