Today is the big day. Who got up to watch live? Who is sick and tired of all the fuss? Who would love to have the money this shing-ding cost?
The topic is not limited to the Wedding. Its just a place to start.

Um…who got married?
No one yet. You peeked.
Repost your concert news.
This is the first I’ve heard of this celebration. It’s nice to see the CoM celebration will be on PWC property. 🙂
I got sent a tree back in February, for Arbor Day. I bet its deader than a doornail now.
Who is up watching the royal wedding?
Me!!! She’s walking down the aisle now and looks lovely!

The hats are absurd. Randy Andy’s daughters look like they are wearing space transponders. I wouldn’t wear some of those hats in my own bathroom much less on TV.
Yeah, I admit it, I watched, I enjoyed. God Bless them both!
I love the way William & Kate look so sweetly at one another. I believe they are truly in love with each other. Wishing them the best.
They look nothing like Charles & Di looked 30 yrs ago.
what does love got to do with it. humans like every other form of life on this planet are genetically preprogrammed to propagate their species

Glad to see a guy with thin hair topside can still get The Girl.
Agreed, Big Dog.
I have always had a special fondness for both of those boys.
Diana was very young and they had an arranged marriage, for the most part. Semi-arranged. She certainly contributed some great genes into the royal pool.
I think the commoner should make things even better.
Just out of curiosity, why would he want to become a duke of Cambridge. How come he can’t be the Prince of something or other? Perhaps some anglophile can set me straight.

Tina Turner has a good answer:

I expect they are very good friends on top of being lovers. They have certainly been together a long time.

Just took my daughter to her first rock concert. LYNYRD SKYNYRD! And it ROCKED! Of course she got a t-shirt.
So, so far, Ted Nugent (She likes Cat Scratch Fever and I went to that concert) and Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirts…….yeah…the programming is progressing nicely…. 😈
So, who got married? I watched some of it. My wife was watching during breakfast….
Man! The bride and her maids of honor are hawt!
What’s a hot chick like her hanging with that balding …..oh….yeah….Its good to be the (future) king.
There. Got the sarcasm and cynicism out.
Actually it was nice. Good luck to them.
@Moon-howler
I think that the heir or consort to the throne is a prince. William is heir AFTER the Prince of Wales.
Hit submit to soon.
William is still a prince. I don’t know if the new bride is yet a princess. But, together they are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Its just one of a number of titles.
We need a way to kick people off of and ban them from receiving medicaid:
“When asked why he didn’t just buy a laxative he responded, “I didn’t have a slot***** on my Medicaid and would have had to pay for it. The hospital is free and has cable.”
An episode of plain old constipation generated 2 ambulance trips, and Emergency Dept. visit and a hospital admission. So his disinclination to spend $3.00 at the store for something he could get for free on his Medicaid cost the taxpayers something above $3,000.00.
In the San Francisco paper a few years ago I read an article about a homeless man who had made more than 1200 trips to the ED in 5 years. When he wanted to get warm, or a meal, or needed a bed when the shelter was full (what we refer to a 3 hots and a cot) he just went to the ED. He even admitted to the reporter that if the ED looked too busy and he though he would have a long wait he would call an ambulance from the park across the street and claim chest pain in order to be treated faster.

Excuse me while I go replace the duct tape around my head…..
William’s title is Prince of Wales.
My granddaughter was a classmate of William at St Andrews. They lived in the same dorm during their freshman year. – In the freshman class picture he is listed as Will Wales, nothing else.
Friends of my granddaughter who knew Kate all said that she’ a very, very nice person
actually, the Prince of Wales is Charles, Prince of Wales. William is Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. Kate is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
I’ll admit…I have watched 0% of the royal wedding, which just about matches my interest. I hope they can be a “normal” married couple, and wish them well. I’m still trying to get my head wrapped around all the destruction caused by the tornados. If you click this link http://www2.insidenova.com/news/2011/apr/27/11/tornado-touches-down-near-quantico-ar-1001083/ you will see a photo of one of the tornados that hit North Stafford. Fortunately, it did little damage. The brick building in the lower-right of the picture is my office building. My understanding is there were several of us in the office at the time the picture was taken. There but for the grace of God, go I….
I just got lectured by my son to go to the basement next time there are warnings.
@Cargo,
There will always be stories about stupidity. What do you think that same person would do if he had health insurance? That drives everyone’s rates up also.
@Steve,
I am having trouble wrapping my head around that F 5 in Tuscaloosa
@Steve,
Go start off something on the tornado thread. I am pretty speechless over it.
The blog “Too Conservative” states that John Stirrup would be a good
choice to run in the newly formed 13th Senate District.
What do you think?
Big Dog-I have no opinion as a resident of the Gainesville District. I will say this. I predicted this to my hubby and Moon. After the way he just screwed over WestGate for a cell tower to placed at the top of the hill at the Flat Branch bridge within a hundred feet of houses, he lost a TON of support in WestGate. Of course no of our supervisors really wanted our area. I’ve NEVER seen a cell tower this close to homes in PWC. However, I don’t travel to the eastern end for anything that I can possibly avoid.
Maybe Mr. Stirrup needs to stay right where he is. I want better cell phone service. It is fairly unstable in Westgate and Sudley. I would also like to see him start the street light project in Sudley and get trash recepticals for Silver Lake.
I would like to see a Democrat step forward. I wonder if Stephen Martin lives in that new 13th? He would be an excellent choice.
I haven’t bothered to look at the maps. I figured I would wait until they were finalized.
@Lafayette, what are the reasons for opposing the cell phone tower? I was hoping it would improve service. This area is sort of down in a hole and has needed a new tower for a long time. I had to change carriers because service was so bad about 6 years ago.
@Moon-howler
I’ve given my reasons before. Furthermore, I think I stated a pretty obvious reason above, due to the proximity to homes. You are the one and only person that has said they have service problems in this area. I am sorry you had to change service.
Why would you say Stirrup needs to stay right were he is? Have you become a fan of his overnight or something? You’ve brought up the trash recepticles for a year now, and street light for years. If NOTHING has happened on these fronts for a year on one, and years on the other. What makes you think he will now take action on those things. I’d say your concerns have fallen on def ears. Furthermore, the Silver Lake recepticle issue is one for the Park Authority, not the Supervisor. Have you contacted Jay Ellington or Gainesville PWCPA board memember Richard Berry? That’s where the SL issue should be resolved. It’s abundantly clear the BoS would rather invest in pet project for the horseys and horsey people of the county.
Other people might have something to add to the discussion. I am not one to cut off conversation. I might be closer to the damn thing than you are, as the crow flies. I would like to hear other people’s opinions also.
No…re Stirrup. Of course not. He is currently a supervisor. The sphere of influence is fairly limited. Why would I want one more far right anti choice Republican in the Senate where he would have more influence–just to be blunt. However, I was hoping to avoid stating the obvious since I am in this district and would like to keep the peace. I have seen enough of the far right agenda to last me for a while. Read that response as I am in the district and will take the hit for the good of the cause. Sort of like the same reason I would be willing to keep Corey for the good of the cause. Keeping it here and contained.
Bet you knew that already though….
Moon, I’ve thought about this some more. We MUST agree to disagree on the cell tower.
I think it makes for a good discussion. I am sure others have opinions also. I am not even sure we disagree. I want to know more.
I am not sure adding a tower inhances my service. How will I find out if we don’t discuss it.
For starters, do cell phone towers enhance everyone’s service? Weren’t companies forced to share resources?
Are there health risks that have been proven or semi proven?
And frankly, I don’t think that John Stirrup really has a darn thing to do with it. I feel he is irrelevant to the discussion. Power of 5 and all.
Kate and William stamps can be ordered from the Canadian Postal Service.
Shipping is free and some items are sold out.
http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/campaigns/royal/royalshop.jsf
I didn’t ask to shut the discussion down. I just don’t care too much about the cell tower. And yes, the carriers are to be sharing. sigh.
Check out http://www.antennasearch.com. for towers.
If there are potential health risks, why does the public not have to be informed?
Well, there is no agreeing to disagree when no one cares I guess.
The question then becomes should we care? Is this something we should be made aware of before it is approved or unapproved? In the past 6 months there seems to be come disagreement about the dangers of using a cell phone up close and personal. People were advised to use speaker phone. I can’t remember who is doing the advising.
I know Johnny Cochran’s family sure thinks there is something to it. If 1 cell phone is dangersous, does that make a tower exponentially dangerous? Where is the scientific data?
I am hoping people who know a lot more about this than I do will weigh in. You can put what I know on the head of a pin.
Don’t be sorry about my lousy cell phone service. It improved when I went with Verizon. I just had a real ugly fight with Cingular. I finally won but it was because of age, experience and cunning craftiness. Oh bull. I was just more stubborn than the average bear.
It could still be better over where I live. Apparently I live in a slight depression. Sometimes when large vehicles come by it interfers with cell service. It is also lousier during commute times.
It’s a well known fact cell towers are hard for citizens to fight. The potential health risks are NOT considered a viable reason to refuse them. I wish the lady that led the fight could come on here and explain it as she did to the Planning Commission and BoS. I do believe there are health risks, but that doesn’t concern the utilities. They want to make that almighty dollar from cell users, and damn the citizens that may be effected with the risks of a cell tower. It really is infuriating to me. But, I’m infuriated enough today. Bad attitude and cleaning the pool. YUCK!!!
Regardless, perception is that they are bad for you and that is reflected in lowering of property values for those areas where power lines, cell towers are erected. Try to overcome that perception, on a blog or in a newspaper….. 😯
@Juturna
Perception is reality!! The property values in WestGate can’t go down much more. Most houses in WestGate only saw an average of $10K property increase this year. For those that will have this thing practically in their backyard are sure loose that $10K++.
Nothing changes until people get up in arms. Not everyone knows all there is to know about cell towers. That’s the reason I was
discouragingencouraging discussion.On the other hand, how close do they have to be to lower your property value?
I would rather be close to a cell tower than one of those huge power monstrosities over in Westate where the buzzards perch. I think they have created 3 mile island buzzards.
Maybe I am way off base but it seems to me that the county is the final determiner of yea or nay on the cell phone towers. Perhaps they could have some requirements on the books. (or perhaps Dillon would prevent that…who knows). Should towers be x number of feet/meters/miles from homes?
If the City of Manassas can make all those provisions for how far away from churches/homes/schools etc adult businesses must be, it only seems reasonable that the county people should be able to regulate how close cell phone towers are.
See edited area. That should have been ENCOURAGING. I kept wondering why people were making strange remarks to me on and off blog.
April was a great month in the market, but what about the old adage
“smart money goes away in May”?
Wish I had a several dozen bars of gold and a full gasoline tank farm.
Discouraging conversation????!!! Perception is a very powerful force. What are we allowed or encouraged to discuss?
FYI: The Prince Cavalry is on route, riding from Brentsville to
the Manassas Museum where they will be welcomed around 5:30.
The public is invited.
Still puzzled over discouraging conversation since not much is known!! That requirement would shut this down! After reading the comments on Air Tower employees I had to bail from this blog. Talk about “not much known”.

Just got back from Arts Alive 2011 at the Connaughton Plaza. I met Selina Farmer-Williams, the artist who is going to be displaying her work at KKs Temptations during the Manassas Gallery Walk next Friday, May 6 in Old Town (6 to 9:30 pm) – really nice work. Hope the weather is like this. What a great evening for a walk. http://manassasgallerywalk.com/
Juturna, you can discuss whatever you want to discuss.
Big Dog, did the calvalry arrive? Now I have ‘the Night they Drove Old Dixie Down’ running around in my head.
I see the problem now and have made the correction. I said discourage and meant encourage. Makes a big difference.
Thank you. I did watch the wedding and enjoyed it thoroughly. The history, the ritual and the conversion of this ‘commoner’ to ‘royal’ was nicely portrayed. Three billion people watched so I guess I’m not the only one.
As far as hats go, I’m pretty sure those folks that can spend $10k on a hat wouldn’t want to wear what I wear in their bathroom either 🙂
The Cell Towers – property values aside, much is the push to have more of them and not because of the just the standard cell phones. With the push for smart phones, various pads, and the little hotspot boxes, more towers mean higher signal strength and more that can be pushed, and capability shared.
One of the things about having a cell tower nearby is your individual device actually works better not just because of signal strength, but because less power is needed to run it. As for the City, we have those nice convenient water towers spread sorta evenly around the City making it easier to have said cell towers. Now as for property value, depends where they are and what the property is or nearby.
Aesthetics aside, there are property owners who like having them. Out in the countryside, it is a nice way for a landowner to make a nice chunck of change a year for rental of the spot of ground and access to it. In a city, if you looked on the top of the National Cathedral, it is full of antennas. And the Episcs sure do love collecting the rent for that roof space!
I am always a cynic when discussing RE values within residential areas. We have that thing called “Fair Market Value”, and look where the bubble lead us. I could almost hawk it as a way to say “look at the tower! let us make a 21st neighborhood prime for all your devices on AT&T, Verizon…and you Ipad Lovers – just think of the signal strength!” Either way, arguing the RE value plus or minus is one that could go on and on. Having water towers or electric substations in your neighborhood sure did not drop values – so why should a cell tower?
@Raymond, thank you for lending your expertise to the discussion. I don’t know much but I own a lot of gadgets and get all wigged out when they don’t work fast.
Are there health issues with cell phone towers? I don’t know. I can run my ipad, my kindle and my droid x through a cell tower. I don’t know that I would like being next door to one but in the vicinity doesn’t bother me. What I wouldn’t like is being near those huge electic structures. I don’t know their names.
I also don’t know much about the distance for these things.
