Happy Birthday to Mr. Howler and Ingrid. May 16 was a very good day, regardless of the year.

Time to award Mr. Howler a medal for valor. He has survived yet another year of walking through the Valley of the Blog, looking neither right nor left but straight ahead, refusing to give in to the lure of political yada yada, ignoring all the hot flames of verbal combat which surround him at every step, going his own way as his own man, never looking back, and, most important, knowing to absent himself whenever Glenn Beck comes up on the screen.
Bwaahahahaahaha! I will be sure to share your sentiments with him, Wolverine. Not sure he knows the name of the blog even. He isn’t without opinion. He just rarely expresses it here. And everyone should be grateful to me for protecting them from that diatribe. Nr. Howler always repeats the same diatribe. The scenery never changes.

People need to understand this.
Happy Birthday Mr. Howler and Ingrid!! Mr. Howler is most “delightfully” to bitch to about the blog. I wish he DID express his opinion on here.
Wolverine,
Very funny!
From InsideNova (N&M website)-
“Manassas mayor appearing in ballet, sans leotard”
Good grief, hope Marty Nohe (Lord Montague) wears something.
@Big Dog
I would like to have seen that Councilman Randolph and Vice Mayor Harrover were part of the ballet. 😉 Another Supervisor or two wouldn’t have been bad either. Wonder how much this priceless performance costs to get into.
@Wolverine
Heh heh.
All the best to Mr. Howler!
@Big Dog, thanks for reposting that. I agree. Understanding the deficit is important.
@Big Dog and Lafayette,
I heard a naughty rumor that the Emperor might put in a personal appearance. I wonder if that would be the no-clothes Emperor?
I think Obama has more important things to do… like raid federal employee pensions to pay for government: http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/treasury-to-tap-pensions-to-help-fund-government/2011/05/15/AF2fqK4G_story.html?hpid=z1
All the best people have birthdays in the middle of May.
My daughter’s was on Friday. Mine is supposed to be the next day 😉 ….Not gonna happen since she was born….
And now we know that Mr. Howler has his on the 16th. Happy Birthday!

Dan, you beat me to the punch. Looks like the federale work force is being used as an ATM..
Cut spending now and stop playing accounting tricks.
Well marinm, that suggestion actually sounds logical. In this administration (best 80’s computer voice) that, does, not compute… This entire administration is purely based on tricks of all sorts, accounting being just one of them.
Wrong emperor. I meant the chief local penguin without clothes.
@CArgo, happy birthday on Saturday. May 14th! Spankings for you for not announcing.
Marin, you know how I distain retirement programs being used as ATMs. The first swipe by Obama and he will get put in the same jail cell as McDonnell. Sorry. No passes for anyone.
Raise taxes, cut non essential programs, whatever it takes, but leave retirement programs alone.
@Moon-howler
That’s because I don’t have anymore actual birthdays. I’m emulating Jack Benny. Besides, I was too busy celebrating darling daughter’s birthday on the 13th. I did make it to the gun range for my yearly shoot. Expensive! Didn’t do too badly for a guy that hasn’t shot in over a year….
This is interesting. I balanced the budget to 2070 with a 50% increase in taxes and 20% cut in spending.
Of course, the graph doesn’t take into account any feedback due to such actions, a growing or shrinking economy, or increased spending by feckless politicians that just got 50% more money…..
http://www.pjtv.com/?cmd=mpg&mpid=324
The predictions here are as accurate as the 2001 CBO predictions that were off by 10 trillion dollars…
Did you survive the slug fest in the back yard?
@Moon-howler
That’s this coming Saturday. We saw that it was supposed to rain this past Saturday. It’s going to be busy. She’s invited to another birthday/swim party that Saturday and then will be having hers around 4:30. We’re having 5 girls over for dinner, make overs, marshmallow roasting. etc….
Should I ask about order of these events? Why do a make over to sit in the back yard, smell like smoke, get all sooty and marshmellowy? Doesn’t logic suck? It spoils childhood. May the force be with you!!!!
“On May 2nd, the United States was prepared to go to war with Pakistan.
….the U.S. did not inform Pakistan about the raid until it was underway. Apparently, that message included a reminder that if the U.S. troops in the bin Laden compound were attacked by Pakistani forces, there would be instant, and far-reaching, consequences.
The extent of those consequences have since been pieced together, from unclassified information. By May 2nd, the U.S. had assembled a huge naval and air force in the region, that was pointed at Pakistan. This force would attack any Pakistani troops or warplanes that went after the U.S. forces in the bin Laden compound, or who might be able to do so. The U.S. had assembled three aircraft carriers, hundreds of air force aircraft in Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf, and dozens of helicopters, and thousands of troops, in Afghanistan.”

Things that make you go “hhhmmmmmm…..”
Bomb found on bus in Dublin before the Queen’s visit. Did some fool think she would be riding the bus?
Arnold Schwarzenegger did the nasty even worse than John Edwards. Where is John Bobbitt when we need him?

“smell like smoke, get all sooty and marshmellowy?”
Um…I think THAT is supposed to be the make over.
As for AHNOLD….man, I’m glad he was born in Austria and couldn’t run for President.
Ahnold is a liberal. 😉
I feel bad for Ms. Shriver and the kids.
Moon,
Are the “nasty” details what makes him “worse than John Edwards”, or is it the fact that he is a Republican (although some may debate his dedication to party principles)? I am not defending any infidelity, as any marital infedelity is bad. But if we are to compare & contrast the two:
Edwards had and hid his affair while actively seeking the presidency.
Arnold had his affair prior to seeking office.
Edwards publically denied fathering a child with his mistress, even when confronted with the evidence
Arnold came clean to his wife, and to the public when the story arose.
Edwards actively offerred the story that his (married) campaign staffer was the father, got his mistress and the staffer to move in together to further the ruse, and payed out a bunch of hush-money.
Arnold took financial responsibility for the child from the start.
Edwards cheated on his wife, while she was facing terminal cancer.
Arnold did not.
Now it would appear that both Edwards and Arnold are notorious phillanderer’s, and both are poor examples of what a husband should be. I felt very sympathetic towards Mrs. Edwards. Regardless of the fact that Mrs. Edwards and Ms. Shriver are active Democrats, I gain no satisfaction from the pain they must have expereinced when learning of the betrayal. Why can’t we just agree that both Edwards and Arnold have deep character flaws, and leave it at that, instead of trying to define the relative “nastiness” of these cads? To me a cheating husband is a cheating husband. That they are Democrats or Republicans is irrelevant.
This makes perfect sense to me, regarding the whole “transgender acceptance” debate:
http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/05/16/inside-mind-chaz-bono/?test=faces
The Queen is in Ireland and wearing Shamrock green. Good for her. What a truly remarkable woman.
@Steve,
Looking at this as a female. I don’t guess there is really a ‘worse.’ I was thinking that the mother of the child was a household employee. Edwards’ tart wasn’t an employee. (sorry can’t think of her name.) Diddling the help is more insulting to a woman than going somewhere else. There is an old vulgar expression about….well…never mind.
Edwards, to me, was the nadir of cheating trash. His wife basically risked her life to help him on the campaign trail. She was terrminally ill but that didn’t stop him or keep his zipper up. Everyone else is a cut above and that includes Ensign.
Basically, I don’t care who does who….it isn’t my business. I would put Arnold in the category of not being a hypocrite though. Maybe that earns him a little bounce.
Why can’t these guys just go off and cheat on their wives and be done with it? Why do they have to be low lifes in the process? There are clean ways to cheat and then there are dirty ways. Arnold and Ensign are dirty. Edwards is super dirty. Gore is fairly clean. He just did it and that was that and it stayed between them.
Steve, I am going to give you half your case…..Now I said did the nasty even worse than Edwards. I was thinking having a secret kid. I think having a kid by household staff is worse than having a kid by tart.
But in the final analysis, John Edwards is a worse human being by far, followed by Newt who had a sick wife also. But he did it because he loved his country, not because his fly wouldn’t stay up. His first wife was his geometry teacher. [very raised eyebrows there.]
And I could care less about party affiliation. I care about hypocrisy. I even defended that poor puppy Sanford. He was pitiable.
But I will hand you that Edwards is the king of the rat bastards for sure.
“Edwards’ tart wasn’t an employee. (sorry can’t think of her name.) ”
Rheil Hunter was her name, and she WAS an employee of the Edwards Campaign. She was hired to shoot campaign videos. You know the ones, “Edwards with sleeves rolled up to his elbows, tie-loosened shaking hands and kissing babies”.
“Why can’t these guys just go off and cheat on their wives and be done with it? Why do they have to be low lifes in the process? There are clean ways to cheat and then there are dirty ways. Arnold and Ensign are dirty. Edwards is super dirty. Gore is fairly clean. He just did it and that was that and it stayed between them.”
While this is the individual’s business, there is no such thing as “clean cheating”, in my book… and the “Good Book”. I had formed my opinion, way before discovering the truth of the later. Infidelity…no good can come of it, whether it’s the wife, husband or both doing the dirty. It’s hard not to be judgemental, but I try very hard not to be. In cases where I fail, I at least try not to break out a yardstick and measure how “tall” the transgression. Really, none of them has wronged me. They’ve only brought dishonor to themselves, by not honoring their marriages, and pain to their spouses and children. It’s just “bread and circuses” for the rest of us.
Moon,
a PS:
My wise Irish grandfather once told me something that I later heard again in the movie “Rob Roy”, so this must be some Scots/Irish proverb:
“Honor is a gift a man gives himself. It cannot be taken from him, only freely given away by the man himself”.
Good words to
live by
Bad – Arnold (not a hypocrite)
Worse – Newt (hypocrite)
Worst – John Edwards (hypocrite and sleazebag on steroids)
Al Gore? As I heard the story, he ordered an in-room massage at a hotel where he was staying (stupid idea from the start when you are travelling alone) and tried to molest the masseuse (who screamed and ran before Gore could globally warm her). Gore, being physically similar in size to and about as fast as those icebergs he’s worried about, was unable to catch her and actually cause any harm.
Aside from a bit of a fright from being chased by a naked Al Gore, she got out not much the worse for the wear and walked off with a check fatter than Al in exchange for shutting her mouth and going away.
http://hamptonroads.com/2011/05/shape-states-population
They mislabeled Manassas and MP (the former has over twice the population),
but it does show where the people and growth are in Virginia.
May be time to reopen the question of Northern Virginia becoming a state
and we don’t get more support in Richmond. (NoVa is a huge “donor” to the
rest of Virginia).
What bugs me:
Arnie’s child is called a “love-child”. What about his and Maria’s kids?
What happens to these “love-children” when they find out how they came to be?
How come so many, supposedly educated, men don’t know how to have sex
without making babies when they venture out beyond the marital bedroom?
@Steve Thomas
Men always remember the names….snicker…
Rheil was not a household employee. She was hired to do a job rather than as a regular employee I thought. Elizabeth wasn’t her boss.
I should have put my saracasm button on. By clean cheating I meant just going off and being a crudball. No children, no sick wives, no husbands who are employees.
I agree with you that the entire business of infidelity is not good but it doesn’t harm me, therefore I am not going to get in a snit over it. It is between the man and woman.
In a case like Edwards however, it is difficult not to get judgemental. He not only destroyed his own family but he had another employee be the fall guy. In a case like that, I tend to be a busy body.
There are cheaters and then there are cheaters.
I hope his children shun him also.
Arnold….I guess we knew he was flawed from the git-go. I just had a bad reaction to him fathering a child by a household employee.
@Need to Know
He had a relationship that ended his and Tipper’s marriage. I had forgotten about the massage therapist.
Not sure I think Arnold is better than Newt. He violated the home. That makes him a cut below someone who takes their debauchery elsewhere. It was more disrespectful to his own family.
Punchak makes an excellent point.
I think men and women come at these things from a different point of view.
If I were Maria S. S. I would rather him go off to some No-tell Motel than have it happening right under my nose and have that housekeeper having the last laugh for 10 years.
“How come so many, supposedly educated, men don’t know how to have sex
without making babies when they venture out beyond the marital bedroom?”
Because a man has a brain and a penis. Unfortunately, many only have enough blood to work one of these at a time. Many operate under the false perception that they are “in control” of the situation. Some of them are being played. But they are the ones dumb enough to get played. However, in defense of my gender, women are not immune from the sin of infidelity.
@Steve,
Woman are just as guilty. I agree. The motivation is different.
The Sperminator may be the latest addition to a long list of thoughtless jerks,
but Strauss-Kahn tops it by his surprise attack on a clearly non-consenting
woman AND, as a result, also doing major damage to an already weak world
economy. A Five-Star SOB.
That’s the IMF head, or the head of the IMF, right? (that never gets old)
No Monica-Bill = no Bush II = no Iraq II or Great Recession + Afghan
under control and Bin Laden dead five years ago = thousands of lives
and billions of dollars saved = no deficit crisis.
Bill Clinton was one of the best political minds of the last fifty years and
could have been a transforming President – but he couldn’t keep his pants
zipped. The fallout was enough to deny Gore the White House
(it shouldn’t have come down to a disputed vote in Florida).
@Big Dog
Most political analysts believe that had Al Gore not chosen to distance himself from Clinton, he would have been in the White House.
Clinton was transforming, Lewinsky or not. It all started out as a gotcha and he ended up prevailing in the end.
Al Gore was stupid and the rest of us had to pay.
So, it appears that Ahnold assimilated 100% into the Kennedys……
@Cargo
I think he already had his credentials before he became one of them. Perhaps he just saw kindred spirits.
@marin,
How about a little marin report? How is Mrs. Marin feeling?
Disagree M-H, Clinton derailed the Gore campaign enough to allow
Bush II to slip into office. You are blaming the victim.
Al “Charisma” Gore has his faults, but trust he would not have made the huge
tragic mistakes of Bush II. History will not be kind to “W”, nor should it.
And Clinton’s presidency, for all its good points, will always be smudged with
lipstick and the knowledge he helped elect “W”.
Just going by what many of the post election historians said.
Do you deny that Gore distanced himself from Clinton and told him he was better off without his help?
Why would Clinton deliberately derail Gore’s campaign?
Arnold got played. Shame on him for being stupid, but details would indicate he was targeted.
