It appears that John Edwards will be indicted per the green light from DOJ.   At issue is his use of campaign money to finance his pay-off to his mistress, Rielle Hunter. According to Huffington Post, much of the pay-off money came from a 99 year old heiress, Bunny Mellon. The Daily Beast reports:

You’d assume Rachel Lowe Lambert Lloyd Mellon—who, just shy of 100 years old, is probably the last surviving member of the old-money aristocracy that once lorded it over America—would be mortified by her involvement in a tabloid-ready sex scandal.

Hardly.

According to confidantes of the reclusive high-society doyenne best known as “Bunny,” she’s predictably annoyed by the media glare, and was infuriated last week when an ABC News helicopter buzzed her mansion in the Virginia horse country to get aerial photos for Friday night’s 20/20 segment based on a tawdry tell-all book by Andrew Young, a disgruntled ex-aide to her embattled friend John Edwards.

“Just think!” she marveled recently to a friend after the feds paid her a visit. “I have lived for 99 years, and I’ve never been interviewed by the FBI before!”
Yet, surprisingly, Bunny Mellon is also said to be energized and amused —“but with a tinge of disappointment,” one pal admits—by the cheeseball antics of the former North Carolina senator, the dashing young politician on whom she lavished so much money and adulation over the past six years, hoping to make him the next president of the United States.

Ms. Mellon lives in Upperville, Virginia.

John Edwards will go down in history with a thud.  He was the fair haired golden boy from North Carolina.  His rags to riches story captivated America and his down home way of letting us know he was one of us and hadn’t forgotten his roots appealed to many people, regardless of political persuasion.

Then there was the fall.  The National In quirer continued to make rumblings about an affair.  Edwards’ wife was battling a rare breast cancer that was incurable.  Finally the Inquire had the goods on him and his world came tumbling down.  There was a mistress, a love child, an aid who took the fall, and a tawdry story to tell.  Ms. Mellon, described in the Beast as a “Sugar Mama,” apparently straightened her flag on the wrong guy.   The rest of us just think he is a rat bastard.  Wonder what she really thinks.

Next time you want to have an affair and pay out some hush money, find yourself a 100 year old heiress to provide some Bunny Money.

    Johnny Beefcake! Hasn’t this poor guy suffered enough?

    1. @Slowpoke

      Define the word ‘enough.’

  2. Pat.Herve

    @SlowpokeRodriguez

    No, he has not suffered enough. Just another case of someone thinking they are above the law, and they think they can do what they want.

    Um….doesn’t that seem to describe most of the Obama administration and most of Congress?

  4. Did they all have mistresses while their wives were dying? Did they all try to hide these people by using campaign money? Didn’t think so.

    @Moon-howler

    Um no, but Obama is continuing an ILLEGAL war in Libya… what’s worse, having a mistress or unmercilessly bombing a country that poses absolutely NO immediate threat to you at all? And I’m just talking about the recent bombing, post “War Powers Act” deal-line (no matter how shady that is in the first place).

    For some reason it seems as if only Republicans need approval from Congress to bomb the living $hit out of a country for weeks on end. Why is nobody talking about this in MSM?

    Sorry Moon, a bit off topic but I just had to get that off my chest.

    1. You would have been horrified over Vietnam then, DC. How about all the other wars since WWII?

  6. Dan Cooper

    How about them? They were way before my time Moon but if I remember correctly (via archives) people on the left seemed to be pretty upset by ALL of them. Having demonstrations on a daily basis. Look at a more recent example, Iraq, Bush was nothing more than a war monger on just about every MSM news show. Where are they now?

    Every last one of them are nothing more hypocritical useful idiots. They all have morals and decry unjust wars…. until their guy does it. Then it’s either excuse after excuse or well…. how about all the other wars since WWII (no offense intended, just an example).

    Either stand for something or not, if you stand against all of the other wars since WWII then stand against Obama and what he is doing in Libya. It’s that simple.

    John Edwards will reap as he has sown. As we know from so many other scandals, “it’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up” that gets you. Edwards is now despised because he dishonored his marriage with his affair. But what may very well get him some time at “club fed” will be the cover-up. One day he will have to atone for his adultery. I certainly hope that he is remorseful, but adultery isn’t a crime in our society. No, he will have to “render unto Ceaser” for his breaking campaing finance law. And to think he was almost VP, and had a shot at being CinC.

  8. @Dan, not really. The fact that you weren’t around tells me you really lack some basic understanding that might be helpful before you start criticizing. You are aware that the protesters weren’t all the same people?

    You are putting labels on people you don’t know, all under the auspices of ‘the left.’
    You have to look past that.

    I was never involved in any anti war movements but I was coming of age during a huge one. Some people were real, some phony baloneys, , some just jumped on the band wagon, some people didn’t want to get drafted, some people truly felt war was wrong. People were involved for different reasons.

    More recently, People who supported Afghanistan didn’t support Iraq. Most people don’t see that NATO support as a war. Still others rightfully think they don’t have enough information to judge what should and should not be done.

    My only point was that none of the ‘wars’ have been declared wars since WWII. Congress declared war in WWII. Since then, there has been no Congressionally declared war. If I am a hypocrite because I state a fact, there is nothing I can do about that.

    War Powers Resolution (not to be confused with a War Powers Act as they are seperate actions….just a friendly reminder it was the result of the Vietnam War and ole Tricky Dick. The 60-day rule got born in 1973. Of course, the “loophole” to it is if Congress approves Defense Spending for a specific instance (Iraq, Afghanistan), then the President can continue the operations.

    In keeping with the War Powers Resolution: I do support getting out of Libya – the funding has been used up for support of a NATO operation (the annual appropration for support of NATO), and if no additional funding approved by Congress, end US involvement.

    The man has been destroyed by his own misdeeds. My personal inclination is not to dance in celebration and point a finger smugly at him. He needs prayers to help pull him out of that abyss. But for the grace of God………..
