A man has been arrested in Madison, Wisconsin for plotting to kill abortion providers at Planned Parenthood. According to Little Green Footballs:
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Marshfield man who planned to kill abortion providers in Madison this week was thwarted on the eve of the intended attack when his gun accidentally fired in a motel room, leading to his arrest for reckless endangerment, according to a federal complaint filed Thursday.
Ralph Lang, 63, confessed his intentions to investigators, saying his goal was “to lay out abortionists because they are killing babies,” the complaint said. He was charged with attempting to injure or intimidate a person who provides reproductive health services. He was scheduled for an initial appearance Friday. …
Lang had a history of targeting Planned Parenthood buildings. Court documents said he was arrested in 2007 outside a Madison branch, telling officers that everyone in the building deserved to be executed and that police were failing in their jobs by not carrying out the executions.
He told authorities he bought the .38 caliber gun about two years after his arrest “to help end abortion.”
Last week Lang traveled to Madison but told police he wasn’t right with God so he didn’t shoot any doctors. Lang has a prior arrest record in Wisconsin. He had told police “at everyone in the building deserved to be executed and that police were failing in their jobs by not carrying out the executions. He was arrested almost 2 years to the day after the murder of Dr. George Tiller in his own church in Kansas. According to the Huffington Post:
In February of this year, a law was proposed in South Dakota that would expand the definition of “justifiable homicide” to include killing those who present imminent harm to fetuses, which would legalize the murder of abortion doctors. A nearly identical bill was proposed in Nebraska a week after the South Dakota bill was shelved.
It should be patently obvious why bills like this should never ever even be considered. Fortunately, this unstable man was arrested and prevented from murdering doctors and nurses.
Meanwhile Congress continues to obsess over abortion. Instead of working on legislation vital to jobs, debt, wars and other national emergencies, mostly Republicans in congress obsess over controlling something that has been a legal procedure since 1973. Don’t most Americans feel competent to make their own morally appropriate decisions? What sets off nut cases like this? There are laws most of us don’t like on the books. Most people don’t become killers over them.
“”On average, the frequency of abortions is similar in developing countries (where abortion is generally restricted) to the frequency in developed countries (where abortion is generally much less restricted).[3][64] Abortion rates are very difficult to measure in locations where those abortions are illegal,[65] and pro-life groups have criticized researchers for allegedly jumping to conclusions about those numbers.[66] According to the Guttmacher Institute and the United Nations Population Fund, the abortion rate in developing countries is largely attributable to lack of access to modern contraceptives; assuming no change in abortion laws, providing that access to contraceptives would result in about 25 million fewer abortions annually, including almost 15 million fewer unsafe abortions.”
My point here is what other modern industrialized demoracies are abortions severely restricted? NONE.
Yes, lets go back to a time where women were at the mercy of illegal unsafe abortions. Yes, lets go back to a time where birth control was difficult to obtain if you had little resources. Yes, lets just GO BACK in time to dark ages. Not me, not my daughter!
People like this would be killer are infused with power when they see the reproductive rights of women being attacked, over and over, through the courts.
While we cannot lay all the blame at the feet of the Tea/Republicans, they certainly bear a good deal of responsibility for this kind of nutjob. Their lies and harangues bring out the basest instincts is folks.
Nonsense, George. The guy in Madison is a nutjob. I thought maybe it was beginning to be understood that the era of attempting to curtail free speech by playing the false political card of guilt by association is long gone. But not completely it would seem.
By golly, George, you would probably have blamed Tom Paine, Tom Jefferson, Ben Franklin, John Adams, et al for the ill treatment meted out to some American Tories by over-zealous and misguided “patriots” during the War for Independence. “Mr. Paine, you have got to stop all those harangues about liberty and the evil of the Crown!! You bear a good deal of responsibility for those tarring-and-featherings!!”
