From insidenova.com:

MANASSAS, Va. —

A Stonewall Jackson High School attendance officer and girls’ basketball coach was charged Tuesday with having sex with a former student, police said.

The victim told police that she and Nsonji White had performed “sexual acts” when she was a 17-year-old student at the school in 2004 and 2005, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.

Perok said the alleged assaults occurred at different locations within Prince William County – some in the school.

White, 38, of the 10100 block of Woodbury Drive, in the Bannerwood neighborhood near Manassas, was charged with five counts of crimes against nature and five counts of indecent liberties by a custodian, Perok said.

 White was held without bond

Yesterday the paper reported that an 18 year old student sexually assaulted a 14 year old in the stairwell.

What is going on?  I know this kind of crap didn’t go on to this degree when I was a kid.  It was a rarity, not an every day occurrence.

The paper further reported other incidents of Prince William County employees being removed for sexual indiscretion with students.

White’s arrest is the latest in a string of recent sex charges involving Prince William county teachers and employees.

Woodbridge Middle School teacher David Blount was charged on May 12 with inappropriately touching a 13-year-old student of his, Perok said.

Beville Middle School SIGNET teacher Lawrence Lucchetti, 33, was charged a week earlier after police said he inappropriately touched a 12-year old female student at the Dale City school, police said.

Gar-Field High School track coach Eric Lewis, 27, was charged April 8 with having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student, Perok said.

Gar-Field English teacher Tina Amato, 27, was charged with having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student on April 4, Perok said.

That doesn’t take into account a couple arrests from the city and the PWC employees removed last year.  Not all cases make the paper.  If no arrests are made, the public doesn’t usually find out.  That doesn’t mean that inappropriate behavior hasn’t gone on.  Sometimes people just disappear.  They resign to avoid further complications.

Some people have  responded that students encourage this behavior and flirt with the employees/teachers/coaches.  That should not matter.  These people are in a custodial position which legally means they are responsible for the child.   To even respond to this type of behavior in a sexual way is a violation of public trust.  Inappropriate behavior on the part of students should be reported to administration immediately.

Prince William not only needs to drive the point home that teachers and employees are not to have any relationship with students other than professional,  they also need to tell teachers how to respond to inappropriate gestures from students.  Obviously some of them don’t know.  I know people who know some of these folks.  Some are not sexual predators.  That’s what I don’t understand.

Why is this crap going on?  Is it a national problem?  What can schools do to stop it?  Whatever it is, it needs to stop.

I think it’s a sign of the times, and the times they are a’changing.

If you want to get some idea as to the scope of the problem, check out http://www.badbadteacher.com This blog tracked many of these cases from initial charges to sentencing, from May 2007, until last month, using only news reports and court documents.

  3. Is this a case of kids being the magnet for pedaphiles?

  4. This isn’t anything new. It has a long tradition.

I had a science teacher that hooked up with a student the week after she graduated. One week. She’d been 18 for about one month.

And then there’s http://youtu.be/g0XLKcMoXRE HOT FOR TEACHER!

  5. No, it really doesn’t have a long tradition. 40 years ago, this behavior was rare. Not unheard of but rare.

I hope you science teacher was fired. Teachers, regardless of age, should not have this kind of relationship with students. It gets fairly murky when 18 year olds are involved. School systems need to have very strict, clearly stated policies on cross pollination with students.

There are too many people involved in this type of behavior. There is a difference in those who have incidents that involve under age people and those who have episodes with kids where they are a custodial adult. That cannot be forgiven.

Prince William certain seemed overly blessed with pervs.

In the 60’s a VA state delegate was involved with a high school student. He eloped with her. I mean give me a break. He was on the board of directors of a private school where she was a student.

  6. Maybe you all are right but I don’t think so. Back in the day, where people knew everyone in town, you could run but you couldnt hide. I am going to suggest that perhaps technology is adding to the problem.

It was harder to slither around in those days. If you took pictures, and took them for development, you could get arrested. No cell phones. No DVDs. You had to go a town over to see trashy movies.

Sometimes towns used to just take care of things like this on their own. The men would beat the crap out of the perp. When I first came to Manassas there was a peeping Tom who got handled that way. They left him lying over in Osbourn Field from what I heard. Alive but hurting. He had peeped at one too many wives.

” It gets fairly murky when 18 year olds are involved.”

Shouldn’t be. As long as the student attends the school, the teacher is in a position of authority. I do believe that in VA, the age of the student only matters ifthe victim is below the age of consent. However, even if the student is a legal adult, there cannot be a non-professional relationship between teacher and student.

    1. Steve, I agree 100%. I just don’t know what the law says once the student is 18 or over.

What happens at the college level? Students dating professors and TAs is not that rare and never has been. I don’t think it should be permitted.

A 19 year old Newt Gingrich married his 24 year old HS geometry teacher.

    1. @Steve, did they date while he was a student in the school where she taught?

You know, and I am not condoning this, but it is more understandable when teachers and students are about the same age.

One way to avoid that problem is to start young teachers off in middle school so there is greater age difference. Once they get a little age on them, send them to high school. Just a thought.

  9. And that’s why they waited until AFTER she graduated. They “dated” for a few months over that summer.

Well, that’s what THEY called it.

    1. @Cargo, then he shouldn’t have been fired. He didn’t date her while she was a student.

I worked with a woman who had fallen in love with her husband while he was her teacher. They were married for years and probably still are. Still.

  10. Here is an interesting article that addresses both this topic (unknownst to the author) and the Weiner issue.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/clinton/stories/sexnpols020598.htm

The girl in question was also a high school student and married to someone else. The ‘affair’ began in high school where Middleton was on the board of education. If she was his ‘secretary’ it was because he hired her because of the romantic situation.

This case is also closely related to destroying the career of a certain UVA head football coach (Sonny Randall). Same woman, different decade.

  11. From the above mentioned WaPo article:

In “The Power Lovers,” her 1974 study of sex and politics, author Myra MacPherson notes that the “compulsive infidelity” habitually seen among politicians is regarded by psychiatrists as “a phallic game . . . of seeking adoration and approval; he wants a relatively immature form of sex, one-night stands and new admirers but no commitment.”

But so, McPherson notes, do many of the women who surround him.

“What you get when you mix propensities for risk taking, hyperthymia, and narcissism in the right proportions,” writes psychiatrist Peter D. Kramer, author of “Listening to Prozac,” “is a damn good politician — creative, energetic, able to use others well. At the same time you get a man for whom the sex act is a compulsion and a constant gamble: . . . If his naughtiness escapes punishment, the fates still adore him.”

The sense may be stronger in the women than in the men in some cases. I always felt that in the Lewinsky case, Clinton was the conquored and she was the hunter. I had just known too many girls and women fitting that profile growing up. Plus I had gone to a women’s college. There were lots of them.

Some of those women were what we called ‘collectors.’ They addictively collected men. It was the challenge of the hunt. They didn’t really want them for long.

  12. Clinton was the “conquered”? Really?

With his history, he was definitely a collector.

And being the one with the authority, he was at fault, if you follow it as a fraternization case.

    1. @Cargo,

Don’t you think that fraternizing crap is smoke and mirrors? I almost find that offensive. In terms of real people, she was a collector with poor self esteem and a school girl crush. He was a man in power with the sexual appetite of a politician.

Most men aren’t collectors. Women are the collectors. Ever watched an old bull in a field of cows? Somehow ‘user’ seems to fit the description better than collector.

    Moon,

I am not sure whether or not their romantic relationship started after he had graduated. From wikipedia:

    Marriages

Gingrich has been married three times. In 1962, he married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, when he was 19 years old and she was 26.[106][107] In the spring of 1980, Gingrich left Battley after having an affair with Marianne Ginther.[108][109] In 1984, Battley told the Washington Post that the divorce was a “complete surprise” to her. According to Battley, in September 1980, Gingrich and their children visited her while she was in the hospital, recovering from surgery, and Gingrich wanted to discuss the terms of their divorce.[110] Gingrich has disputed that account.[89] In 2011, their daughter, Jackie Gingrich Cushman, said that it was her mother who requested the divorce, that it happened prior to the hospital stay (which was for the removal of a benign tumor, not cancer), and that Gingrich’s visit was for the purpose of bringing the couple’s children to see their mother, not to discuss the divorce.[111]

Also of note, Gingrich’s daughter disputes the often-reported account that Newt served his wife (the geometry teacher) with divorce papers while she was hospitalized. That is not to excuse his philandering ways in the least, but it would cast into doubt the cad-like behavior attributed to him, regarding his delivery of the “bad news”.

    1. @Steve, regardless of the delivery system, he was still a scum bag. He can’t hold a candle to Edwards though.

In a way I actually understand and agree with MH. How many times have you see women spot a guy with a ring on his finger and THAT was what attracted her.

It’s as if it’s a game to see if she could do something to have him break his vow and cheat on his wife. It’s not the sex act itself but the ability to “win” over another woman’s husband that is the hunt and challange.

But, I try to stay away from mind games like that so if I’m totally off base just feel free to ignore this post. 🙂

To be honest I’m actually bored with the Weiner issue now and just feel horrible for his wife.

    1. Exactly, Marin. You have hit the nail on the head. Priests are also a good catch for this kind of mentality. Money is sometimes a motivator.

      @Cargo,
And yes, in the Lewinsky case, Clinton was very much the ‘collected.’ Read up on her track record. I don’t say that to exonerate him. He was a grown man and could have said no. I used to want to barf every time I heard about him preying on a young lady though. GAG. She had a track record of trying to seduce older men. Low self esteem.

Wasn’t ******* ******** a former teacher from Parkside Middle who later worked for Dale City Middle and accused of sexual misconduct found innocent? I believe so but I cannot find any article stating so and but have no problem locating all the negative press ( one being badteacher.com)

    [ed. note: name redacted. The person named was never found guilty in a court of law. There is still family in the area. I will answer questions off-line}

Moon rocks! A simple name slip….actually becomes the point I was trying to make!! 🙂 Good looking out, Moon! And if Moon says they are going to take it off line…yep…Moon backs it up!! Love it! 🙂

    1. @Red Dawn

And that person is no longer a teacher. They were not at Parkside when the incidents happened.

  17. @Moon-howler
    Absolutely not.

Fraternization is a big problem in chains of command, both military and civilian. It leads to favoritism, corruption, and can destroy organizations. While both parties, at least in the military, are found guilty, the senior person is supposed to be held to a higher standard and responsibiltiy.

    1. Fraternization is a big problem and it goes on all the time. It shouldn’t. Perhaps I jumped the gun and thought you were going the Commander in Chief route. Apologies if you were not.
