Loudoun County man blames sheriff’s deputies for death of his dog
June 3, 2011 – 07:28 pm
A Loudoun County man is outraged after he blames sheriff’s deputies for the death of his beloved dog.
The man admits to drinking too much, which led to his arrest in Sterling.
But, it’s what happened next that has him so upset.
“Rex – is the best ….only dog I’ve ever had,” Stu Grimes says.
Rex, a four-year old Labrador-Boxer mix, spent at least 15 sweltering hours trapped inside Grimes’ Chrysler Monday. He didn’t make it out alive.
Grimes went to an IHOP in Sterling after a night out. It was 5 a.m. Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the restaurant because they say Grimes fell asleep in a booth.
He was arrested for being drunk in public and resisting arrest.
“I was drunk, they were sober,” he says. “They were hired to serve and protect.”
Grimes alleges he repeatedly asked the deputies to get Rex out of his SUV. But a Loudoun County statement says: “…our records show no indication that Mr. Grimes mentioned a vehicle or a dog to the arresting deputies or the corrections staff at the Adult Detention Center.”
“He pulled my keys out and hit the panic button to find out which vehicle was mine and it was in front of him,” Grimes says.
Grimes was booked into jail at 6:30 a.m., where he says he continued to ask deputies about his dog.
Meanwhile back at IHOP, Rex was still in the SUV. It reached 95 degrees outside, which our experts say means it got as hot as 130 degrees inside the SUV.
“I was praying he wasn’t in the back of my car,” Grimes says.
Grimes bailed out of jail at 8 p.m. and went to the IHOP where he found his car and Rex.
“They say they didn’t know about the dog or the car,” Grimes says. “That’s not fair. I was begging them to save my dog.”

Wasn’t bad. Can’t say any one candidate ran away with it. The main story in the mainstream media today is how the CNN moderator couldn’t get them to attack each other. You know that pisses them off big time. Best part: Legal immigrant asking the candidates how they’d keep illegals from abusing government benefits. What a racist she was!
Slowpoke, it’s only a matter of time until the candidates have to start making CNN’s dream come true.
Punchak, I’m glad she could separate herself from being just another cute airhead like Palin. More issues will actually be discussed that way. I’ll admit to sending a few bucks to her opponent a couple years back. She’s way too conservative for my tastes but at least she can put some sentences together.
Supreme Court reinstates collective bargaining law
Madison – Acting with unusual speed, the state Supreme Court on Tuesday reinstated Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to all but end collective bargaining for tens of thousands of public workers.
What a horrible shame. What a loss for those workers. They barely make enough to live on anyway. I wonder if this new law will wipe out everything from the past.
The new law states that they can use collective bargaining for salaries. Benefits are not included in the bargaining. But they still have benefits.
And if they barely make enough to live on, then they need to find another job. That job is too hard for that salary for them. And when the workers dry up, salaries will increase.
By the way, Starting Salary: $25,222 Average Salary: $46,390 I’d take that.
And its not like its a secret that teachers are not known for a high salary.
Also, why are you only hitting on Wisconsin’s drive to weaken bargaining? Why aren’t you also talking about some of the Democrat governors that have successfully done the same thing?
I would not take that salary. And that is a state-wide average. Your cities will be higher . I looked up salaries in a few localities and I felt their salaries were very meager and not representative of what an educated professional should be making.
To say that its not a secret that teachers make low salaries is to accept substandard conditions for the people Americans trust to educate their children. You get what you pay for.
Given all that teachers are asked to do and the accountability, they are getting better salaries, as they should. The past few decades teacher salaries have been more professional. I hope this isn’t a national trend.
Benefits–benefits are pretty important. Salary is only part. Sick leave, supplemental retirement, sick leave bank, duty free lunch, compensation for sick leave, personal leave, retirement are all pretty important items to give up collective bargaining over.
Why am I hitting Wisconsin’s drive? That the one in the news. I wasn’t aware Democratic governors were trying to union bust. They won’t last long. Who is doing that?
I wasn’t aware that anyone was doing what Scott Walker did. I don’t like a war on the middle class. They might have won the battle but I sure hope they don’t think they are going to win the war.
Moon, Democrats have been doing it in many states but you aren’t aware of them because it’s not a Republican doing it. Since a Republican did it in WI it’s all over every (MSM) news channel with tons of people being bused in from out of state by unions to protest.
When Democrats do it you never see it on MSLSD, CNN, ABC, CBS…. Hell, in most cases you don’t even see unions protesting.
I like Romney’s stances on global warming, abortion and gay rights. I’m also glad that he believes health insurance should be mandated, as the law that he signed in his state demonstrates.
Dan, the MA restrictions only deal with health care benefits, not all of collective bargaining.
So you think I just pick on Republicans? Why is that? Is that against the blog rules?
Wisconsin has been the ring leader. No further explanation should be needed. The squeaking wheel gets the oils.
In general, the court outcome was fairly predictable. 4-3. Gov. Walker won this round. I expect it is a case of winning the battle. However, he will lose the war. Wisconsin is a heavy union state and has become the poster child for anti-union actiivity.
That one won’t fly twice. Next election those people will be handed their heads and sent home. The whole process will start over.
@Moon-howler
Sure. Though it doesn’t appear that Starry had anything to say about policy, just a preference for a liberal Republican. Those preferences are not news or a surprise.
Romney’s stance on AGW and health care mandates is going to make it hard for him to get nominated.
@Moon-howler
Um,….the “pro-union” state just voted for Walker’s choice for Supreme Court Justice overwhelmingly. So it seems that the population is split on that whole “all powerful union” thing.
No, not overwhelmingly, unless you and I have different definitions of ‘overwhelmingly.’ So tell me, was that vote for an ‘activist judge?’ Let’s get the judge we want so we get the desired outcome?
You know, if this was about something stupid, I wouldn’t care. But this is about people’s livelihoods, work conditions, and retirement.
But of course, you know there will be pay backs. The culture wars in the country are scary. I am glad I don’t live in Wisconsin and I am glad I don’t have to send my kids off to schools where there is so little regard for those who have been entrusted with their care and education.
Let’s see now, the cops can still collectively bargain or is it the firefighters? Which ever group coughed up the most money?
If your an Obama-bot… you may want to just ignore this now and continue on to the next comment.
Nobel Peace Prize winner and current warlord, O-bomb-ya, is now the subject of a bipartisan lawsuit in order to stop the illegal war he is conducting in Libya. You know, the one in which he LIED and said our involvement would last days, not weeks…. remember that LIE?
From the article from ABC:
“With regard to the war in Libya, we believe that the law was violated. We have asked the courts to move to protect the American people from the results of these illegal policies,” Kucinich said in a statement announcing the suit.
The lawsuit is signed by a bipartisan group of members of the House, including Kucinich (D-Ohio), Jones (R-North Carolina), Howard Coble (R-North Carolina), John Duncan (R-Tennessee), Roscoe Bartlett (R-Maryland), John Conyers (D-Michigan) Ron Paul (R-Texas), Michael Capuano (D-Massachusetts), Tim Johnson (R-Illinois) and Dan Burton (R-Indiana).
Man, so glad that this guy won a peace prize for doing nothing. Lets do a quick recap of what he has done since winning said prize. He never closed Gitmo (yet another lie), he increased troop levels in our current war and somehow managed to start two new illegal wars! Ah, I remember way back when he won that coveted prize when some were wondering why Obama-bots defended it. Still defending it now? Just curious…
“And to date, there have been no Democratic governors who have done what Scott Walker and his band of union busters has done.
Union busting isn’t going to fix the Dem votes. It will just solidify their resolve”
Oh, I’m so sorry, I should have been more specific. I should have said… Democrat Mayor union busters, Democrat local board officials union busters, Democrat union busters of all sorts, but nope, no mayors. Your right about that.
Also, the astroturf, faux outrage at WI will only strength folks to stand in solidarity (to borrow a term from the left) in Walkers, and many other Democrats decision to do the same.
Cargosquid :@Moon-howler Sure. Though it doesn’t appear that Starry had anything to say about policy, just a preference for a liberal Republican. Those preferences are not news or a surprise.

It’s ATM’s and airport kiosk machines. THOSE BASTARDS! Seriously, you can’t make this $hit up if you tried 🙂
@Starryflights
He’s leading said pack because he kept his organization viable over the past two years, has name recognition, and the media has been promoting him as the man to beat.
He still lost the primaries LAST time and that was before the Tea Parties got organized.
@Cargosquid
Starry is entitled to his opinion without the ridicule.
As for Romney, he and Huntsman are probably the only 2 who would survive a general election.
While YOU might like tea party people, the rest of the nation won’t. The mid-terms gave you a real false sense of security. You have to have an electible person and that person will have to be far more moderate.
How do you do.ah….I see you’ve met my faithful…………handy man. He’s a little brought down, because, when you knocked, he thought you were the candy man…..

One…THAT wasn’t ridicule. Two….Starry insults conservatives all the time. Three….McCain was supposed to be electable too. Remember, the Tea Party wasn’t electable either and conservatives swept the last election.
Heck…..Hillary was the electable one last election on the Democrat side.
Huntsman…electable? Why is that? He has less name recognition than Michelle Bachmann ad no conservative likes him. Why is it that people think Liberal equals electable? Because the media likes them? We already know that most of the media is rooting for the Democratic Party.
Alaska’s big problem is fiscal policy. Over a quarter of the state’s workforce is employed by state or local government, and that figure does not include federal employees. Alaska has the highest debt and government spending to personal income ratios in the country. However, Alaska does extremely well on personal freedom, scoring fifth on our ranking. Reasons for its score include fully legalized possession of small amounts of marijuana (accomplished through a court ruling), the least-restrictive gun laws in the country, strong asset-forfeiture protections, recognition of same-sex domestic partnerships, and possibly the best homeschooling laws in the country. On economic regulation, Alaska does poorly on labor law, occupational licensing, and eminent-domain reform but relatively well on health-insurance regulation.
Policy Recommendations
Cut spending on the areas of grossest overspending relative to national averages: public schools, highways and airports, corrections, administration (especially financial administration and public buildings), and “miscellaneous commercial activities.”
Repeal the prevailing-wage law.
Repeal some of the more unusual occupational licenses, such as child-care administrator, geoscientist, hydrologist, and massage therapist (some of these are implemented at the city level).
So, going by their definition of left-liberalism it makes sense. Maximum personal freedom with heavy handed state control of the economic engine.
