New York Times:

The sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn is on the verge of collapse as investigators have uncovered major holes in the credibility of the housekeeper who charged that he attacked her in his Manhattan hotel suite in May, according to two well-placed law enforcement officials.

Although forensic tests found unambiguous evidence of a sexual encounter between Mr. Strauss-Kahn, a French politician, and the woman, prosecutors now do not believe much of what the accuser has told them about the circumstances or about herself.

Since her initial allegation on May 14, the accuser has repeatedly lied, one of the law enforcement officials said.

The accuser has not been seen by the public.  She is in protection.  She has been caught in one lie after another.  She has told authorities that 2 witnesses to her encounter were Moses and John Lennon.  While Strauss-Kahn might have a few problems with morals or scruples, there is something very disturbing about this case.

Strauss-Kahn  has lost his  job and reputation.   Is it possible for someone to lose their lifetime achievements over a case like this that ends up with its chief witnesses being Lennon and Moses?  He was considered a serious contender for the French presidency.   Now he is being held on in the United States with a forfeited passport and is under strict house arrest.

Meanwhile the ‘victim, ‘ a Guinean applying for political asylum,  has been recorded discussing the advantages of pursuing the charges against Strauss-Kahn with a  man incarcerated for drug distribution and money laundering.  He is one of a number of individuals who has deposited up to $100,000 in the ‘victim’s’  account.

The investigators also learned that she was paying hundreds of dollars every month in phone charges to five companies. The woman had insisted she had only one phone and said she knew nothing about the deposits except that they were made by a man she described as her fiancé and his friends.

In addition, one of the officials said, she told investigators that her application for asylum included mention of a previous rape, but there was no such account in the application. She also told them that she had been subjected to genital mutilation, but her account to the investigators differed from what was contained in the asylum application.

Wild stories like these didn’t arouse suspicion earlier?  It would seem to me that genital mutilation would be verifiable, unless I have missed the point.  This woman sounds like a grade C con artist.

How many people are drawn in and arrested without the benefit of slick lawyers?   Strauss-Kahn may be a free man without a passport in a number of hours.  Behaving inappropriately is a far cry from being a rapist.  Who is the victim here?  Something is rotten in the State of New York.

4 Thoughts to “Strauss-Kahn case disintegrating”

  1. Where did you read that Moses and Lennon witnessed the attack? And neither did ANYTHING?!

  2. I heard it on TV.

Strauss-Kahn is been released on his own recognizance.

  3. Wolverine

Hard to have much sympathy for a guy of his international stature who, it now appears, walked right into a sex flim-flam. As soon as this story hit the press, his extra-marital past started coming out of the woodwork in France. Some of these people get so full of themselves and so convinced that they are made out of that proverbial teflon that they transfer their brains to their nether regions.

  4. Wolverine, I don’t disagree. But, for all the men out there, there is a huge difference in inappropriate sexual behavior and being a rapist. The fact that some loser was able to pull something like this off without so much as a hitch suggests that something is wrong with our legal system.

    But we knew that.

That all seemed fairly unbelievable from the git-go. Yet we keep thinking if enough men get stung for being stupid, they will stop being stupid. And then there is Anthony Weiner……and probably many more to follow.
