This video shows one of the clumbsiest attempts to skirt an issue I have ever seen. Doocy confuses hackers with hackees. Why he attempts to connect companies who have been hacked into with a company that hacked into other people’s emails is beyond me. He also speaks of the mythological ‘they.’

Fox News has been remarkably silent on the Murdoch scandal. Doocy was lame.  Does he expect news agencies to not cover the News of the World case?   Did the media really ‘pile on’ or is Steve Doocy just a little bit touchy?

7 Thoughts to “The hackers and the hackees, according to Fox News”

I tend to agree with the cyber security expert that we need to concentrate on a full-blown effort to end ALL the hacking. Too many of these instances of breached computer security are being announced and then seem to fade away in favor of other news. Not a good thing. This latest incident involving thousands of defense contractor files (rather than DOD files) ought to have people in shock. Unless we find a way to stop this, nothing will be confidential, whether it’s your personal data or vital government material. Personally, I think that the tabloid scandal in the U.K. is just a drop in the bucket. We now have organized groups of hackers who make an open game of it and brag about what they are doing or can do, daring law enforcement to catch them. It has gotten to the point where I personally use the computer for an absolute and unavoidable minimum of personal financial business. One of our son-in-law’s professional specialties is trying to protect computer systems, and he says that it is an unending battle. I understand that the Russian Mafia now has criminal hacking systems so sensitive that they are able to detect protective systems and avoid them automatically until they can hone in on a less protected computer setup.

Talk about an attempt to spin the news into a non story. That story was trying to make you think that News of The World was a hacking victim. Doocy has no integrity.

News of the World bribed people to divulge information – they can call it hacking if they want, but they used bribes to do it. They also got information on many people and incidents by hacking into voice mails too. Where was the integrity of every individual at News of The World? Murdoch did the right thing to shut it down, but this was also not the first incident of hacking at that paper.

Hacking and computer security is a big issue, but I will give that expert no credibility because of his participation in this spin attempt.

  3. I agree. Doocy has no integrity. This is just another example in a long line of examples. His son seems like a nice enough young man and seems to have more integrity.

I agree with both Woverine and Pat on this thread. The hackers brag. It is like a red cyber badge of courage. The penalties need to get much stiffer. What happened to Palin’s hacker? A year in jail just doesn’t cut it.

I don’t like going in banks because there are so many bank robberies. What’s left, a sock under the bed? A mason jar in the back yard and a 357?

Doocy was a fool to do what he did. And he did it badly. That was awful! Maybe poor Steve is another victim.

Murdoch is simply a mercenary. His papers have invaded lives, government and law enforcement simply in the name of greed. The Miller Dowler incident, resulting in the parents thinking she was alive, is absolutely goes beyond the pale.

I listened to Jerry Doyle and Diana West last night commenting on the weakness of conservative media in not addressing this.

Hacking into the phones of murder victims – including victims of the 9/11 attacks – is vile, despicable and repugnant. That Fox News would laugh and joke about such uncivilized behavior is equally repugnant.

  6. This is tangent to the actual topic, but here’s some links about hacking and what some are doing.

To stay out of moderation, I’m taking off the “h” of Http on one link.

This one is stupid. Its the Dept of Homeland Security all over again. This is what you do instead of something.

  7. The Murdoch world is crumbling it sounds like.

Not sure whether it will impact his holdings here.

Maybe he was just too powerful. Now I am hearing that he had the ears of Scotland Yard, the Prime Minister, etc. That is a little too much influence.
