Another sign of the dog days of summer–an annual cicada shell, left over from molting.

These shells have delighted many a kid over the generations.

Kids, its all coming to an abrupt all all too soon.  Put down the video games and get outside!

    Remember the song that guy did on American Idol a year or so ago that became an overnight hit, “Pants on the Ground?” It may become the Alaska state anthem.

    “Lookin’ Like a FOOL wit’ yo Pants on the Groun’!!”

  2. Emma

    @Morris Davis Let’s all just have no values then. Why bother aspiring to anything at all?

  3. Slowpoke Rodriguez

    @Emma
    The ultra-left knows they’ve got a problem coming next year, so they’ve got to get started attacking the ones they fear most. They’re just getting their engines warmed up. Wait ’till Perry enters the race. Then the left will really be shaking and piddling on the floor like overbred Chihuahuas. They will stoop to the lowest levels imaginable to attack Perry, Bachmann, and Palin. You have to keep all that in mind between now and next November. It’s as predictable as summer is hot and Al Gore is pathetic.

  4. From what i have seen of Bachmann, Palin and Perry, they will handle making fools of themselves all by themselves.

    @Pokie, you do realize that they are more than a little strange? Now that’s not to say they are bad people. Isn’t Perry the guy who wanted Texas to seceed in 2009? That works. I really wouldn’t care much.

    Southerns still tend to turn a blind eye towards that sort of thing.

  5. No visible meteor shower tonight. Too cloudy.

    Cargo, can you see anything down your way?

  6. I just made what I think is a good discovery. I use frontline plus on my dogs. I have 3 pooches so a 6 month supply lasts me 1/3 of the time. (I do stretch frontline to every other month)

    Anyway, I needed to reorder and all my places I order from wanted $76 bucks for a 6 month supply. I found this place in Canada that charges $49.69 and they include free shipping.

    Just thought I would share. NO rx needed.

  7. Mike Bickle tells us that Oprah is the forerunner of the Anti-Christ. He was one of the endorsers of Rick Perry’s prayer event to get ready to announce his run for the president.

    What are these folks thinking?

  8. Cargosquid :

    @Morris Davis
    Why are you talking about Palin’s family values when its LEVI’S sister? Or are you smirking about the “early” arrival of a baby to newly married parents?

    Ohhhh, horrible. Sooooooo….what’s your point?

    Probably the same reason you never fail to take a shot at Obama. You know, the scorpion/frog story. Its just what you do.

    A.M.Rep. Austin Scott’s Tea Party betrayal: Dana Milbank live

    Legal Immigrants are different from illegal immigrants

    What’s so hard to understand about Rep. Scott’s position on immigration? He favors legal immigration and wants to crack down on illegal immigration. As a Tea Partier he should support legal immigration and a free market in labor, which he apparently does. If anything the cognitive dissonace is on the Left, where there is unlimited support for line-jumping illegal immigrants, but anger at the use of legal immigrant workers.

    A.Dana Milbank :
    So, fighting for jobs for (legal) migrant workers from Mexico instead of his own out-of-work consituents is a Tea Party position?

    http://live.washingtonpost.com/Austin-Scott-betrayed-his-Tea-Party-Milbank-chat.html

    I think it’s cool that a Tea Party congressman favors migrant labor over Americans. But tea partiers don’t even realize what they are supporting because they are stupid.

    OOPs I meant to answer here….Cargo…just kidding and being a smart @ss. That sounded a little harsh, even for me.

    A little fishy?

    May want to remember this as federal and state mandates push local governments
    in Virginia to add storm water levies to support “Saving the Bay” while, at the
    same time, a deep pocket giant company is allowed to damage it with the support
    of our Gov. and GA.

    Someone needs to put a bar of soap in that baby’s mouth!

  15. Big Dog, I have heard that both Bob and Marty have a hit out on you now. Big afraid, very afraid.

    Sublime!

  17. Clark

    So what are the odds the us will face wrongfull death claims as a result of ‘fast and furious’?

  18. Clark

    I think 100% but that is just me.

  19. Mom

    I wouldn’t be as concerned about Marty’s hitman paying a visit as I would his barber.

    So Chuck Colgan gets some competition in the 29th District:

    And this week’s prize for the best Moonhowlings comedy line goes to….Mom.

  22. I was feeling bad about Mitt Romney until I heard how he handled the lady who wanted to raise the FICA ceiling. that was a legitimate question and she was polite. We do need to raise that ceiling–maybe not full but partial.

    The dude in the floppy hat, not so much. He was rude. These people ought to bring security.

  23. Emma

    @Moon-howler Can you imagine people being rude and disruptive at public meetings, to the point where you can’t even learn anything from the speaker?

    I listened to the unedited clip this afternoon, and Romney was actually quite decent. Somehow, many MSM outlets managed to edit out his good comments.

    1. You would think the foxies would have gotten it right. Why yes, I can imagine it. I think their security ought to just toss people that do that.

  24. Cato the Elder

    Some MoveOn/Democrat organized protest. Too bad they weren’t tasered and frog-marched out in nickel-plated bracelets. That would have made for some good YouTube.

    1. @Cargo, how do you know where they were from? I can’t imagine moveon.org going after Romney rather than a few others.

    2. That’s what I thought about the people in tricorns 2 years ago who were so incredibly rude. Equal opportunity here. Throw them all out.

  25. Morris Davis

    I had never heard of Nancy Wake until today. What a remarkable story. If you want to read about a woman with a real titanium spine, read her obituary:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/nancy-wake-white-mouse-of-world-war-ii-dies-at-98/2011/08/08/gIQABvPT5I_story.html

  26. Very interesting story, Moe. I had never heard of her either.

  27. Slowpoke Rodriguez

    Yeah, OK, Bachmann’s weird.

  28. Slowpoke Rodriguez

    As far as I’m concerned, Bachmann, Pawlenty, Santorum, and Huntsman can drop out. Let’s get Perry in there and have another debate.

    1. I agree with Pokie. Is the earth reversing? I do not agree about Perry. He is confused. His religiosity scares me.

      One sounded and looked presidential. Romney.
      I thought Newt made some great points, despite my aside with Moe.
      Bachmann is just weird. She makes my head hurt.

      I did not like the questions they were asked. They were using their own talking points to battle the candidates.

  29. punchak

    Well, folks, guess whose bus will be rolling into Iowa very soon;
    might already be there?

    “She” said she didn’t want to miss the historic Iowa State Fair.

    Don’t EVER take your eye off her. She should be your ONLY focus! That’s what she’s there for, and y’all fall for it, hook, line, and sinker. I love it!

  31. Starryflights

    So which of those bozos in Iowa is going to lead the nation – and, in fact, the rest of the world – through this economic crisis?

  32. Pat.Herve

    TGIF – that wealth redistribution that happened this week in the markets needs to go away.

  33. @Pat, agreed. The roller coaster ride is making me sick. On the other hand, I want a running of the bulls for a long time. Lots of damage to repair.

    @Starry, none of the bozos!!!

  34. Pokie, do you have a man-crush on Miss Sarah? You shure do keep playing that same ole lame response about her alot. Unlike some, most of us can keep our eyes on all sorts of characters at once.

    For instance, how about that Bachmann? She came out at bat and immediately said she wished that the USA had defaulted. How stupid was that to do? She just ensured she would NEVER get the Republican nomination. You think those country club business types want to hear her ignorant crap about defaulting? Too many people lost too much last week during the fall out for that to even be seen as a joke.

    Mainstream Republicans are waving their handkerchiefs in that old Bye bye song.

  35. @punchak

    Palin also is proving she isn’t a team player.

    Everyone else is doing their homework and has been there, working, setting up tents, bringing in petting zoos and booking Huckabee to play for them (Jon Stewart suggested he was a ‘slut’ :twisted:)

    Palin is showing herself to be someone who drives on the shoulder while everyone else lines up at the exit and waits their turn and then cuts everyone off. She shows herself as the person who goes to a keg party the night before the calculus exam and then cheats off the guy who had studied for a semester and prepped for the exam for 2 weeks.

  36. Cargosquid

    @Moon-howler
    Um…that was Cato. I know we look alike and everything, but I wasn’t on last night. Migraine.

  37. Cargosquid

    @Moon-howler
    Palin also is proving she isn’t a team player.

    Meh. When did the “team” ever support her? I think its fun to watch her drive around and drive the press crazy with the “will she run? when is she going to announce?” stuff.

    I don’t think she’s going to run.

    1. @Cargo, she isn’t a lone wolf out there. Someone supports her. I guess my feeling is if she is so disgusted with the republicans then she needs to go independent.

      I just think she is a joke now. I don’t even care about protecting her kids from the press. She has dangled them out there. I don’t feel that way about any of the other candidates.

    1. Mr. Howler just said that Virginia and PWC really bombed. In all fairness to everyone…..I don’t think kids are doing worse. The goal posts keep getting higher. By 2014, all kids are supposed to pass. ALL. That isn’t going to happen unless the human race changes.

      Another important point people need to realize is that this isn’t the fault of SOL tests. It is pretty much the same test. It is the feds who keep setting the pass rate and AYP higher and higher and higher each year. AYP is annual yearly progress for the 4 sub-groups.

  38. Cargosquid

    @Big Dog
    This is great! Thanks.

  39. Slowpoke Rodriguez

    I don’t think she’s going to run.

    SSHHHHH! It’s no fun if they don’t think she’s going to run! Better to watch them twitch and seeth with disdain!

    1. @pokie

      If Palin drops out there are still plenty of other weirdo to laugh and chortle over. We can still wear our tinfoil hats to communicate with some of them. After all, look at Rick Perry’s connections. I am just waiting with baited breath to see that guy who thinks the sun goddess mated with the Japanese emperor and thereby caused the ruination of the Japanese economy. Holy crazy batcrap Batman!

    I’m not one to vote based on a candidate’s looks but Perry looks like a cross between his fellow Texan GWB and Richard Nixon. Run!!!! OTOH, at least he doesn’t have Santorum’s google problem. Bwahaha!

  44. punchak

    @Big Dog

    Yea, PeePee sounds pretty good.

  45. Censored, check out the email I sent you on this subject yesterday. OMG.

    Did you see the part about the sun goddess?

  46. Censored bybvbl

    M-h, I wonder if any of these prophets forsee the coming Bible Wars. It’s gotten to be as bad as it was in small town Bible Belt communities where there are more churches with opposing views than there are dogs in town. Ha. It sounds like the current day Republican party…filled with a bunch of blowhard pols who each presumptuously believe God is on their side vigorously telling them “no new taxes”and “Obama is a socialist”. Makes for interesting entertainment during the primaries.

  47. Wolverine

    So, I take it y’all think we are going to get stuck for another four years with that clueless feller who threw the pity party up in Holland, Michigan, yesterday?
