I heard this a few weeks ago. He’s doing one last tour and they wanted to make the announcement, so people wouldn’t think he was drinking if he forgot the lines. I can’t stand to hear of anyone have to deal with that dreaded disease. I’ve lived with a couple of Alzheimer family members. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemey. Well, maybe I would tonight. 👿
Well, the President has commenced his pander to the Latin population. The DREAM Act will be enacted by executive fiat. The DHS has decided to selectively enforce the law. Must be nice that this administration is allowed to pick and choose which laws to enforce. http://frontpagemag.com/2011/08/22/obama%E2%80%99s-backdoor-amnesty/
“The Obama administration’s new immigration amnesty is a purely political calculation intended to shore up the president’s sagging support among Latino voters.
President Obama has a habit of not enforcing laws he doesn’t like.
He doesn’t like the Defense of Marriage Act so he won’t defend it in the court. He doesn’t like energy exploration so he has ignored court order after court order that would allow deep-water oil drilling. He doesn’t like the free speech protections in the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. FEC so he’s planning an executive order to undermine it.
“Bowing to pressure from immigrant rights activists, the Obama administration said Thursday that it will halt deportation proceedings on a case-by-case basis against illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria, such as attending school, having family in the military or having primary responsible for other family members’ care.”
“Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill.), a member of the socialist-dominated Congressional Progressive Caucus, practically admitted the DREAM Act is now the de facto law of the United States.”

And I expect, with the continuing recession, that those numbers now are even smaller.
That’s what I mean by it won’t work. There are not enough of them. That’s why Obama wanted to increase taxes on that 250k group. But that kills small business too.
Moon-howler :Its official. If I only listened to faux news I would be suicidal.
Doom and Gloom is the name of the game.
Now we have a monster hurricane looming on us. You would think Irene is Godzilla if you listen to Faux.
Moon, Faux newsey ain’t that far off – you have a counter-clockwise storm coming right up the middle between two clockwise high pressure systems. Makes for one bad-arse ‘caine if it can form (as predicted) up to a Level 3. Neither High System is packing much windshear, so they will form a perfect alley to hold the ‘caine together. Last East Cackalacky got hit with a Category Three was Isabel back in 2003. Can remember older ones too back in the 60s growing up down in Jacksonville NC.
The weather channel said about the same thing. They tried to deal with facts rather than fear. Faux News had the economy smashing, China taking over and a huge hurricane. They missed the earthquake however, and didn’t even post for a long time. See, they don’t own doom and gloom.
Team Edward and Team Jacob (from the Twilight series) was a way to communicate if a person was aligned with the actors that played “Edward” or “Jacob”.
You saw the same thing with Team Aniston vs. Team Jolie (pop culture – this was in reference to Jennifer Aniston losing hubby Brad Pitt to Angelina Jolie and if a person sided with Aniston or with Jolie).
So, using the above I made a play on Big Dog’s reference to class warfare (class warfare being between the Bourgeoisie and the Prolteriat) and putting them as “teams” in the pop culture way. Further I added that the “Proletariat” shirt would have a picture of Che (Guevara) which is by itself ironic because the idea of using the image of Che to support consumerism (buying my t-shirts) is funny in of itself.
But, now that I had to explain the joke…. it’s not as funny. 😉 Especially as it now sounds like a math equation.
@marin and I thought you were talking about John Edwards. I actually like it now it involves Twilight. I believe I like team Jacob more. I have visited their reservation, although not over Twilight related issues.
Some are calling candidates who didn’t win “pieces of shit.” That doesn’t seem real productive to me.
Elena should have run for office as a dem. She is very influential over there. Anyone hated that much must be doing something right. It is soooooooooooooooo liberal to try to reduce traffic and the need to build schools. Damn girlfriend, you are going to start glowing in the dark.
Everyone is so worried about how dumb Palin would have been as Vice President. Those folks need to hear Biden’s latest gaffes in China. Say it ain’t so, Joe!!
Biden speaking in China on their one-child policy:
“Your policy has been one which I fully understand — I’m not second-guessing — of one child per family. The result being that you’re in a position where one wage earner will be taking care of four retired people. Not sustainable.”
Things are looking good! “The tea party can go to hell” “The tea party acts like terrorists” “The tea party supports slavery”…..yep, that ought to do it!!!
You know….that China birth policy has some built in myth also.
From wiki:
The one-child policy (simplified Chinese: 计划生育政策; traditional Chinese: 計劃生育政策; pinyin: jìhuà shēngyù zhèngcè; literally “policy of birth planning”) refers to the one-child limitation applying to a minority of families in the population control policy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The Chinese government refers to it under the official translation of family planning policy.[1] It officially restricts married, urban couples to having only one child, although it allows exemptions for several cases, including rural couples, ethnic minorities, and parents without any siblings themselves.[2] A spokesperson of the Committee on the One-Child Policy has said that approximately 35.9% of China’s population is currently subject to the one-child restriction.[3] The Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau are completely exempt from the policy. Also exempt from this law are foreigners living in China.
The policy was introduced in 1978 and initially applied to first-born children in the year of 1979. It was created by the Chinese government to alleviate social, economic, and environmental problems in China,[4] and authorities claim that the policy has prevented between 250 and 300 million births from its implementation until 2000,[2] and 400 million births from 1979 to 2011. The policy is controversial both within and outside China because of the manner in which the policy has been implemented, and because of concerns about negative social consequences.[5] The policy has been implicated in an increase in forced abortions,[6] female infanticide, and underreporting[7] of female births, and has been suggested as a possible cause behind China’s gender imbalance. Nonetheless, a 2008 survey undertaken by the Pew Research Center reported that 76% of the Chinese population supports the policy.[8]
How many people have been guilty of saying that poor people or welfare mamas should be restricted to one child. I hear it all the time and then those same people act horrified that the Chinese have certain restrictions on how many kids someone can have.
Would people be more comfortable with incentives to reduce the number of children one has?
Human Rights abuses? In China? Nahhhh, I don’t believe it. China has a long (thousands of years) reputation for how well they treat their people. Heck, they’re practically Norway!!! Women 8 months pregnant being hauled off and having their babies murdered? Nooooooo, not CHINA!!!! Tell those wailing mothers and all those dead babies that Uncle Biden HAS to be right, so what was done to you was “just a myth”! That ought to make them feel much better!! 🙂
@Slowpoke, I guess any chance of discussion is out. I believe I already said he could have said that a little better. Does that mean that because Biden had an oaf tongue, again, that we cannot discuss WHAT China’s policy really is? You are aware that all of China doesnt have the same policy?
Silly me. We should never discuss the reality of things, just whatever makes us politically feel good.
Since there are so many Glenn Beck fans here, I thought I’d post a link to a minor review of his show in Israel. There’s also a link to his speech transcript.
Beck’s mission was to raise support for Israel, and the 1500 viewing parties around the world — including such places as China and Pakistan — guaranteed that many heard the message. He is seeking to reverse the trend in which “sophisticated folk,” my phrase, sympathize with terrorist groups and revolutionary Islamist organizations rather than a democratic state defending itself.
While listening to Beck I realized what a pity it is that so few people who should be doing so analyze him fairly, which doesn’t mean uncritically. He should be seen as a serious and sincere, morally oriented leader who gets some things wrong but is open to dialogue, has admitted mistakes, and has shown a real capacity to learn and grow over time. Only if his ideas are considered fairly can some of them be challenged in an honest way. Instead, we get the kind of baseless hatred (sinat hinam) that is denounced in Jewish tradition. Indeed, that vice is held to be the very reason that the Second Temple, by whose ruins the Beck rally was held, was destroyed.
I think I analyzed him very fairly. I watched, I listened. What else is left? I did not like many things he said. He was of an ideological persuassion I have no use for. Now, is he a serious moral leader? I feel more comfortable with him as a ‘preacher’ than I do as a news commentator.
Actually, I feel he is part of a 12 step program. That’s fine, just not on a news channel. I don’t even want to hear that Beck is the victim. Every day he got on the tv and mimicked and excoriated those he distained. Give a little, get a little.
If he wants to be judged as a man of God, he needs to go back and take a few lessons in humility and walking the walk, if you get my drift.
Moon-howler :

Silly me. We should never discuss the reality of things, just whatever makes us politically feel good.
Well, I feel like under normal circumstances, I would be inclined to discuss China’s one-child policy on a rational level… The history of the policy, the particular implementation (from region to region), and specifically how often it does or does not result in, for lack of a better term, forced late-term abortions. I wouldn’t pretend to really know the first thing about China, its history, or its culture. I’m positive that for many, it’s absolutely fascinating….but I never could stay interested. Don’t know why. So, in short….probably a fascinating subject, but one that unfortunately, I just can’t bring myself to care about. Sorry.
@Moon-howler
Hey, if Biden says something stupid about the Sea Peoples, the Hittites, the kingdoms of Mittani, Urartu, the Hurrians, or the Dorians, then we’re good to go. Right now I can’t get interested in anything else.
SlowpokeRodriguez :Biden speaking in China on their one-child policy:

Biden is correct. In the long run it’s not sustainable. Look at Japan! Its population is aging and not enough children are being born. The Japanese women have found out that they are able to get decent jobs, don’t have to get married and live with the husband’s mother, don’t have to have children .
I don’t think that what Biden said was such a terrible blunder.
I don’t think his content was wrong, I think he said it awkwardly. And of course it had to turn political and towards the dreaded abortion issue by his political enemies.
Bwahahaha, someone in Dumfries finally said it. This should be fun to watch.
Dumfries council member takes aim at ‘Momma’ Maureen Caddigan
By Aileen Streng
Dumfries Town Council member Kristin Forrester is not pleased with the services Prince William is providing the town – which pays county taxes – nor with their supervisor, Maureen Caddigan, referring to her as “momma” or “mother.”
Forrester said Wednesday that she used the mother analogy to describe the relationship between the town officials and Caddigan, R-Potomac.
“It’s definitely an inferior and superior position,” she said. “The point I was making was that we are in a very child-like role where we ask permission and she either grants or denies and that’s a backwards, messed up understanding,” she said.
Three other council members – including the mayor and vice mayor – have issued public apologies to Caddigan.
Caddigan could not be reached Tuesday or Wednesday for comment.
“I meant everything I said,” Forrester said Wednesday. “I have nothing to apologize for.”
During last week’s council meeting, Forrester said, for example, that the Prince William Board of County Supervisors takes credit for the widening of U.S. 1 in Triangle when the project is being paid for by tax dollars.
“They play into the façade that they are funding everything and we should play nicey-nice and ask our momma what we can have and hope she tells us yes,” Forrester said during last week’s televised meeting.
At one point during Forrester’s lengthy speech, Mayor Fred Yohey interrupted her and asked, “Our what?”
“Our mother, Maureen Caddigan,” Forrester said.
“Our tax dollars fund everything the county does and everything we do at the town level. So, this suggestion that if we offend our momma or her brothers and sisters on the board of county supervisors and we don’t get the response that we want it is some how deserved because we didn’t address them in the right way – I think that’s foolish.”
Forrester gave several examples of situations in which she thought the county could have and should have helped the town, such as providing building inspection services while the town works to replace its building inspector.
“We as an elected body have to understand, just like our citizens do, that they vote on Election Day for public servants, not public queens,” Forrester said. “Our mayor has it in his mind that we ask for favors. They are not writing checks out of their pocketbooks. It’s our money.”
Council member Gerry Foreman suggested that some of the issues raised by Forrester could be addressed during the council’s next quarterly meeting with Caddigan.
Forrester disagreed.
“Let me give you a quick recap of quarterly meetings,” Forrester said. “The mayor asks for some service for the town. Maureen Caddigan says no. The mayor asks for a service for the town. [County Executive] Melissa Peacor says no. That’s about how the whole four hours go.”
Addressing her fellow council members, she said, “My questions to you was, ‘What are we going to do to help the county understand its obligations to us?’ Not the favors they want to consider doing for us if we impress them with our good behavior.”
“Something has to happen and it’s not going to happen in the next quarterly meeting.” Forrester said.
Before the council moved on to other business, Council member Dorothea Barr apologized for Forrester’s mother/momma comments.
“I think it was a rude and unkind thing to say and inappropriate in this forum,” Barr said.
Yohey and Vice Mayor Nancy West sent a letter to the News and Messenger about Forrester’s comments, which was published this week.
“This letter is to apologize to Mrs. Caddigan and to other county staff who were included in the outburst of this council member,” they wrote. “The actions of one council member do not reflect the feelings of the entire town council.
“We am deeply sorry that this action has taken place at a time when the Dumfries Town Council did have a good working relationship with Prince William County,” the letter stated. “We hope that in time this good relationship can be re-established.”
Forrester said the letter summed up and reinforced the points she made in the meeting to include the attitude of some of her fellow council members.
“This is exactly what I was saying. Either you make Maureen Caddigan happy or the town will pay,” she said.

Just saw this too, Mom. Glad you beat be to posting it. I still like Queen Caddigan for us coutny folks.
Then we have Senator Mark Warner endorsing Lateef. UFB!!! Wake up Senator Warner, this is NOT the guy to lead PW. We’ve been devistated by foreclosures, and this clown lost his home in foreclosure. Err, not really his family member bid on it a public auction on the courthouse steps, and Lateef continues to live in this home. All the while he has another house that is his rental property. Seems to me one would decide which property can we hang on to, and which one can we sell so we can stay in our house, and continue to pay as we promised when we sign the note and the deed of trust. http://dalecity.patch.com/articles/senator-warner-supports-babur-lateef-for-chairman
Correct. I’d love to take a peek at the books for that 7-11 to know if they are as profitable as they should be or could be. Obviously, the owner is making enough money to keep himself happy with that location.

The quake apparently was felt over most of the mid-Atlantic.

It’s Obama’s fault not being on the job.
Actually he missed a put during his golfgame due to the quake – I think!
I get back just in time to dodge the hurricane hitting Myrtle Beach to enjoy an exciting earthquake!
It was a 5.8, 9 miles south of Mineral Va. About 40 miles from my house. It shook and rattled everything for about 10 seconds.
I think its just James Madison spinning in his grave at the atrocities we’ve done to the Constitutional rule of law.
Part 2 will be the hurricane. The earthquake was just to see if you were paying attention.

Perhaps Senator Warner is not privy to local ‘talk.’ Not so unbelievable. Remember that I had to call Arlington to get a Warner sign.
