9 Thoughts to “Earthquake not enough excitement for you?”

My stepdaughter is due to return from SC on Sunday. I think a flight change might be in order. I sure wish they had a better idea of what was going to happen. I wonder how this will effect flights on the east coast over the weekend.

You never really know with these things. I lived in Mississippi when a ripper came storming up through the Gulf. We all went home and got ready for the worst. The hurricane got inland, hit Hattiesburg, and totally disintegrated. Darndest thing I ever saw. It just fell apart in the space of 5 miles. Then there was Agnes (my oldest memory).

    1. @Slow,

You must have been a kid for Agnes. I will NEVER forget Agnes. We are still fixing Flatbranch so we won’t ever have flooding like that again.
I didnt live in it at the time but my house had 3 feet of water in it. I was lucky. Many people were on their roofs.

What was that ‘Cane that went in at Puerta Gordo? My daughter and her family few in down there a day later to stay in Englewood. Englewood was almost untouched and 10 miles away total devastation. I was hysterical and didnt want them to go.

It was nice to be able to squeeze in an earthquake before this thing hits.

Growing up in New Orleans gave me a great familiarity with hurricanes. What to do inland? Two words.

    Hurricane Party!!!

My earliest memory is Hurricane Betsy. I remember Camille. Went outside on my porch. Saw a brick fly by. Went back inside. Quickly.

We were returning from Pensacola, FL during the approach. There was a road about 15 ft above sea level crossing Mobile Bay. Waves were crashing on it as we drove across. Of course, I loved it, in my ignorance.

During another hurricane’s approach, my mother, I, and some friends, went up to a boat launch area for Lake Pontchartrain because we wanted to see how high the lake had risen. While on the levee, we entertained ourselves with seeing how far into the wind we could lean, using our coats as sails. I was actually being lifted off of my feet. The cops came and kicked us off the levee. As we got into the car to leave, we turned on the radio in time to hear, “And there are some crazy people up on the Bonnabel boat launch…..”

    1. @Cargo…so that explains it!!! 😉

  5. @Scout

    Bwaaaahahahahahahaha!
Great one! That’s one thing, you never get to have an earthquake party.

And it happened on the same day the DOW went above 300. That sure needed to happen.

Hurricane Betsy retired the name in 1965. I don’t think it made it to Virginia, did it?

    wowowowow

Camille flooded much of Virginia. I missed some of it. I blame scotch and cold duck.

Much of Richmond was under water.

My earliest experience with a ‘caine was in 1960 for Donna…she was a Category 3 which slammed into Emerald Isle. And the water flowed and flowed and flowed…
